Chapter 2: Magic?

Curious about the feeling I start to interact with it... 

Willing the feeling to concentrate on my eyes, I notice that for some reason, my vision picked up on previously unseen small details such as that barely noticeable dust cloud... Is this magic? What a curious thing... 

"Hmm... What else can you do?". As I was meditating on the subject I noticed a feeling of tiredness, that although small is noticeable...

 How weird... So it means I lose energy from performing tasks with 'magic' huh.

 How does it work biologically? Is there an organ that stores this energy? How much do I have of this energy? Is it quantifiable?... 

Ah, look at the time... It appears I got stuck in my thoughts again. 

Getting up I watch the sunset which was beautiful, but what I see is weird... Two moons? How strange, but I guess that confirms this is another world... 

I really need shelter... Right now I'm shivering because of the cold... Remembering Mr. Serano, I wonder if he has a place I could spend the night. 

Feeling illogical Hope, I head toward Mr. Serano's chicken wing stand.

 Seeing him putting stuff away for the night, I speed walk to him while yelling, "Mr. Serano!". 

He looks at me in surprise while yelling back, "Ah! Miss Gauss! What brings you here again?". 

Finally getting close enough for a normal conversation, I start off by saying, "Mr. Serano, do you have a place I could stay for the night?".

" I Sure do, but you'll have to earn your keep Miss Gauss".

 I cringe being called 'miss', and going by a new name, but... I suppose this happened, because of my failure...

 After he makes another contract, I ponder the terms... Apparently, if I stay at his place for a day I'll have to work for him, for 8.30 hours... 

signing the contract, I noticed a feeling I ignored before... I felt the 'magical' energy leave me.

 I shiver in realization, that.. That... If I met a different person, I could have become a slave... 

What a scary thought... 

I muse over what the heck the order of knights is and what a mana signature is... Is the order of knights law enforcement? 

And is a mana signature like an I.P address? 

Deciding to clear my confusion up I ask Mr. Serano, "Mr. Serano, what does the order of knights do? and what is a mana signature?". 

" Miss Gauss, you really don't know about the order of Knights? I understand not knowing what a mana signature is, but you should know about the order of Knights."...

 I Quickly come up with a lie... "Mr. Serano I come from a small village... I did hear about them but all I heard were fairy tales.".

 There that should clear up the suspicion... 

And so he explains about what a mana signature is, and what the order of knights do... 

"...the order of knights are a group of talented individuals, who enforce law and order in the runic empire... And a mana signature is unique like a color. everyone has a one.". 

He left me with even more questions, but... 

We finally arrived at his place which was a house in the residential area of the city...
