Chapter 14: V1C14 – Before 2nd-Year

The foriom figure of a park in bleak weather seethed. The 7 heroes of [Orvinus] sat in close proximity.

"So everything's normal huh..."

"Yeah, and it seems we can use the full extent of our powers here as well. It's like a dream!"

"Anyways, our priority, for now, is Vetheris, the [Demon Lord]."

"I got it, but I really want to try fighting a [Curse]. With Rino, we should be able to find them fast right?"

"Well, it's not that we can't..."

"Remember we're starting 2nd-year soon since schools are reopening. Don't push yourself. We also don't even have our weapons on us right now. I can summon mine but that takes a lot out of me."

"I know, but these [Curses] will be nothing! We're [Heroes] after all!"

*sigh*

"Rino can you feel any in the area?"

"[Magic Search]. Yeah, there should be some a bit north from here...their mana has similar characteristics to demons. They have the same amount too so I'm guessing that they're of the same strength?"

"In that case, we should be fine since there are 7 of us. But, don't let your guard done everyone, there may still be uncertain factors."

""Yes!""

The [Heroes] rushed mana through their bodies to enhance their functions with spells. Racing like the wind, they arrived at their destination in no time at all...

"So that is...a [Curse]."

Multiple wobbling four-legged balls of ugliness emanated a dark presence as the group came closer.

"Let's go, [Physical Enhancement] and [Mana Armor]."

"Ou."

Tatsumi rushed in head first with mana twisting around his arms resembling gauntlets. In [Orvinus], he trained his brute force battle style and body so that he could overpower anything.

"Ora!"

He beat down with monumental force and pummeled the [Curse] into the cement. This level of damage is considered negligible and ignorable due to the effects of [First Contact]. Anyways, the [Curse] leaked out into the air as the body dropped a [Core].

"Is that all they have in them? Pathetic!"

"Tatsumi...pay attention!"

Yui Saegusa threw an [Ice Spear] of mana near him, piercing a charging [Curse] that was about to intersect with Tatsumi. The whole party had grown their companionship through life-or-death battles for months so it was only natural that their teamwork was also clean and that they would cover for each other. Yui Saegusa studied many types of attack magic in the other world to fight against Vetheris, so she's the main attack mage for the hero party. After Tatsumi beat down and Yui tore apart the [Curses] with blows and magic spells respectively, Ryosuke put his thoughts into words,

"These [Curses] are like the low-ranking demons from our world. There are probably stronger ones, but for now, we know that our strength works on them."

"True, and with all 7 of us when armed, I doubt there will be any demon or [Curse] that could touch us. The [Demon Lord] is much more of a threat."

Rino shouted suddenly...

"Ryo, behind you!?"

Ryosuke reflexively turned and applied the [Physical Enhancement] spell to himself. Out of a suddenly appearing crack in space, came a towering monster with repulsive black scales bent in odd directions. It stood on four legs with a lofty tail wagging dangerously, an enlarged lizard. The lizard [Curse] plowed straight through to Ryosuke, the closest to it. Satomi immediately applied him with buff spells, [Increase Strength].

"Ekekekeke!"

The lizard creepily cackled as it descended with its mouth open to presumably bite down.

"I won't let you!"

Ryosuke fired himself up.

O Goddess, grant me the power to slay an unthinkable evil

I, Hero Ryosuke Hikaru, call upon the holy treasures bestowed with light

To protect the world and write it over,

[Heavenly Armament] !

In a flash of godly light, a single broadsword could be seen in Ryosuke's two hands. That is the [Holy Sword] from his [Heavenly Armament].

"Now fall, [Curse]."

Ryosuke slashed powerfully towards the lizard and in a flash of holy light cladding the sword...the lizard broke into ashes.

"A one-hit KO? That [Heavenly Armament] is cheating I tell you."

Ryosuke unmanifested the [Holy Sword] and turned back to his friends who were used to the display. They might have all been summoned from the same world, but Ryosuke was blessed the most by the Goddess [Ervia] and became the most powerful. After thanking Rino for warning him, he went to pick up the [Curse]'s [Cores] scattered about.

"I'm surprised. It's nearly the same as demons from [Orvinus]. The only difference is that they actually disappear when killed."

"There are a lot of similarities between demons and [Curses] but we'll never really know if they're related or not. The [Curses] seem to have come from another world to Earth, but there were no monsters such as [Curses] in [Orvinus]. Really, they're a big mystery. Well, maybe Sato can use the [Cores] for something if no one else can."

"I'll try my best."

Sato said it meekly as the [Cores] were handed to him and he storied it in the spacetime magic spell [Item Box]. Sato became the team's handyman in the other world for this reason and numerous others. He studied miscellaneous skills and magic in order to become useful in unique ways. Alchemy, blacksmithing, unlocking, etc. He's a man of many talents but doesn't specialize in certain combat like the others, though he remains an essential part of the team.

"Well, now that that's over and we sorted out what we needed to...see you guys at school. Tomorrows our first day~"

"Yeah, bye guys."

""See ya.""

"Hey, Fila."

Fila is the [Focal] who bestowed power to Nakano Ai.

"Hm?"

"What do you think of Aki?"

"Oh, the [Magical Girl] we saw earlier?"

"Yeah, that one."

"Well, there's a lot that I can't say but she's definitely strong."

"I know that already. Still, to be able to summon two weapons at maintaining them skillfully...that's amazing."

"I won't deny that, but you're amazing yourself Ai."

"Hehe thanks..."

Ai Nakano knows nothing of mana manipulation, aliens, or the nature of [Curses]. She just uses her weapon manifestation and body enhancement formulas like instinct by flowing mana, the usual way [Magical Girls] worked. Aki was an exception since Yoru deemed it necessary for her to learn about mana since it involved her awakened ability [Mana Drain] and because Yoru is a bit of a weird AI. However, Ai's awakened ability was different and so was the [Focal Fila]. 

"Have you found one yet?"

"Yeah, straight over there."

Ai ducked and weaved through the dense buildings.

"Found it~"

The [Curse] who appeared in her vision was shaped like a deer...

Manifesting her thin silver spear, she approached it threateningly. When the deer [Curse] noticed her presence, it jumped back a bit but ultimately came in for an angry charge. Ai lowered her spear into a perfect position, and when the distance was right, curved it and thrust elegantly while avoiding its blow. One strike is all that Ai needs...

[Void Point]

The area where the [Curse] was pierce vanished into nothing instantly and Ai forced the spear up, ripping the deer in two. The same phenomena happened as before, the [Curse]'s body vanished at the point of the spear taking its body. This is Ai Nakano's awakened ability, [Void Point]. She can use her spear to erase anything to null at a point and fatally damage enemies. This ability works for other melee weapons as well, but since Ai's manifested weapon is a spear, this combination is the most convenient.

The deer eroded away into the evening and Ai unsummoned her spear, picking up the [Core]. [Magical Girls] have no use for [Cores] so they keep them as trophies of victory. As she took a deep inhale and exhales, her reflective black hair wavered lightly as it shined in the setting sun. Her attractive facial features shimmered in the light. The untouchable existence known as the idol, Ai Nakano...

"Let's get going, Fila."

"Yes~"

"My high school 2nd-year will resume soon in a completely 'normal' environment! I want to be ready for it..."

"Sure sure. If that's what you really want."

"If I remember correctly, it's the same school that Saegusa-san goes to...maybe I'll meet her there."

"She'll definitely be surprised."

"Hehe, I can imagine it."

Ai let out a faint smile to Fila.
