I muttered under my breath. The [Curse] that Yoru just detected is already crushing houses in a residential area.

With my physical enhancement, I boost my legs and shoot forward at breakneck speed.

So that's the sound I hear before my death? Truly an ugly sound...I would've liked to go any other way besides ravaged by a [Curse]. Oh no, the tears won't stop flowing...but I'm too scared to make a sound. I'm cornered in my home, the sanctuary that I thought would be safe. But, it was violated in mere minutes. I'm scared. I don't want to die. I don't want to die. Somebody save me. Anybody...I'm sorry mom, dad...

The slime-like [Curse] extended its grimy tentacle towards me. My eyes are so blurred from tears that they would be no better closed. The monster came closer and closer...and...

[Hexad Barrier: 7 Release] (what the newly acquired barriers will be called)

Like the monster hit an invincible glass, its tentacle shrank back. Sniffling loudly and wiping the water from my eyes, I could see a hexagonal figure of light in a flower-like pattern protecting me...

"...who...?"

I began. But it was a foolish question. This is the work of a [Magical Girl] no doubt. I turn to the one who saved me, a pretty girl with rich black hair and deep drowning eyes...

"The Ethereal...Princess..."

All those up to date with [Magical Girls] and [Curses] will know her name. [The Etheral Princess of Darkness Aki]. The mysterious savior of Tokyo.

"You're safe now. This will be over soon so sit tight okay?"

My muscles reflexively relaxed after hearing her entrancing voice...she's almost like an angel.

She produced two cutlasses from blank space and rushed towards the jiggling [Curse].

"Sorry if this damages your house a little...!"

[Fire Form Realizer: Dark Flame Vortex]

Both of her swords were clad in shining black flames. Her back at that moment was the best...it was beautiful...it was something worth chasing after and something worth striving for. As she slashed down, the slime monster was reduced to fine dust instantly and swept away in the afternoon wind carried through the damaged house. As I noticed that, the girl bowed gracefully...

"Sorry! If I came a little faster, your house..."

"No no no! I-It's fine! I'm glad I still have my life. Thank you...Aki-san."

She raised her head and smiled brightly back. After nodding and turning, she set off...

The edges of my mouth gradually perked up and my chest grew warmer. This life that was saved by her, I will not waste it!

"You certainly have become a hero haven't you Ethereal Princess-sama?"

"Stop that Yoru. It all started because I kept on defeating [Curses] to become stronger and defeat more...but then I realized that saving lives actually feels pretty good."

"Hmm..."

"If I can be a pedestal of hope for others, I might find my own meaning you know?"

"Still going on about that? Well, whatever. Anyways, how was the [Hexad Barrier] I gave to you? The protectors doing their jobs properly?"

"Yeah, it works great. The regeneration time is only a few minutes and I can get footholds in the air by using it. Too bad I can't fly by walking on them in the air though."

"They do have an altitude limit...anyways, I sense another [Curse]. It should be easy for you, but still, be on guard."

"Roger."

"It's in the shape of a dragon! I guess fantasy creatures are also fair game for [Curses]. I wonder if there are references for them or anything?"

"Take this seriously Aki, don't get cocky."

"I know I know."

I manifested my two [Realizers] and strengthened them with mana. I took my stance against the dragon [Curse] that stood at a height far above mine. Looking over, it immediately spits black fire.

"Geh!"

I nimbly dodge the attack. Some [Curses] can use mana but only very simply. An example would be this dragon [Curse] who can give its mana the fire and dark attribute and blast it instinctively from its mouth. But, weak untrained mana like that won't be enough to make me sweat!

Utilizing 22% of my remaining mana will be enough to deal with you...

I apply this to both of my cutlasses and egg the [Curse] on. It takes the challenge and breathes its disgusting breath towards me. But, I'm going to get a little reckless this time...

[Hexad Barrier: 16 Release]

I release every barrier my protectors could muster in front of me to tank the fire, which it should be able to do. Then,

[Fire-Lightning Form Realizer: Dark Flaming Thunder Vortex]

Both of my [Realizers] become swirling vortexes of dark elements. The wave of mana torrents across the manifested weapons destructively, but my strengthened swords stand their ground.

"Gaaauww!"

As the dragon's black fire cleared up, I disabled the remaining barriers and slashed with my mana blades at close range. The dragon's stomach burst open in a sea of burning black flesh and electricity. But, I'm not done yet...the [Curse] won't die with just this! After slashing broadly, my body immediately reset as the dragon regained itself from losing a large chunk of itself.

I ran up and jumped into the created barrier in a split second, only possible with my magic-based enhancements.

I did it again, this should be an ideal height.

I use the same move, one of my most mana costing but effective. However, since this is an aerial strike, I'm going to try out my improved [Gravity Magic] that I've been practicing since I have the affinity for it after all. I apply a small bit of [Gravity Magic] to make myself heavier as I fall through the air, my bones will be able to handle this impact with mana.

"Fall dragon!"

As I blasted the dragon's neck off completely with astounding speed from the sky, black lightning and flames poured all over its body. It turned to black dust and withered away seconds after. A quick and beneficial battle it was...

"Phew...I used a bit more mana this time."

"Not nearly enough to make you worry though Aki."

"Well, what do you expect after I stole the mana from all those [Curses] huh?"

I made off with a slightly bigger than average [Core] and readied for my departure home. 

"Leaving already?"

I turned to the beautifully pitched voice. There stood a prim-looking girl with swept bangs and short black hair. She had a face that was instantly recognizable, I've seen her multiple times on TV myself before, the idol Ai Nakano.

I know that she announced to being a [Magical Girl] but was she just watching my battle?

"Ah, I was watching towards the latter half of the fight...it was really amazing Dark Princess-san!"

She began carelessly approaching me so I consciously took a few steps back. It was because of her overwhelming idol presence, or maybe my natural shyness. Taking a look at her with my mana-enhanced vision, I could see a moderately high amount twisting around her in a similar way it does to me. We have the same magic formulas engraved after all. But there's a big difference between her and me, my mana is a lot more sinister, and in a much greater amount, obviously. 

"Aki is fine."

"Oh, Aki then. Well, I thought your battle style was really, how do I say it...unique? But, in a good way! It was really pleasing to watch and umm...as fellow [Magical Girls] I thought I'd say hello~"

I guess Ai Nakano is either an oddball or an overly considerate and nice person. Personally, I hope it's the latter to keep my opinion of her which is relatively high maintained. 

"Un. Nice to meet you, Nakano Ai. As a fellow [Magical Girl], I'll try to help you if we find ourselves on the same battlefield against [Curses]."

"Eh!? You know my name?"

"I don't think there's many that don't know your name...Nakano-san."

"Ai is fine!"

"Alright, Ai."

I think getting close to a girl this fast makes me a real player huh? I guess I am cheating with a female form though.

"Anyways, see ya."

"Wait!"

"Hmm?"

"Aki...has no interest in joining the government?"

"Not right now...I don't really like stuff like that. I can help you guys out occasionally, but ultimately, I'm going to do what I'm going to do."

"How envious..."

"Hmm? Did you say something?"

"Eh? Nothing, nothing at all..."

After that brief meeting with the fabled idol, Ai Nakano, I returned home as usual while Yoru disguised my magic and I [Transform] back to Akito.
