Chapter 31: V2C16 – Lull

Blood drips off the wall unnaturally sideways reforming itself to various points. His head reorientates and attaches while the body stands again. Like time itself was being reverted, Ryosuke Hikaru's body reforged as he opened his previously closed eyes.

"What the--"

The one known as Ryosuke Hikaru is supposed to be dead. Not only is he still alive, but Vetheris's presence could still be felt...

"Hey there, hero."

Ryosuke, with a cold sweat down his back, turned to the tuned voice. Upon the faint recognition, he spoke with underlying firmness.

"If I remember correctly, you're the [Focal] Fila with Nakano-san...right?"

In front of Ryosuke is a white fox-like mechanism with prying eyes and an odd demeanor. The figure of a [Focal].

"Indeed. First, let's do something about that fallen [Demon Lord] shall we?"

Before Ryosuke could respond, Fila got behind his head and he felt a sharp sting. After about a minute, Fila seemingly finished and returned to its old position.

"Ow--what was that?"

"I just engraved a magic formation for exorcising Vetheris from you lightly to the back of your head. Really, all the magic formations planted directly into your minds by this supposed Goddess that I analyzed are quite useful. This should also accelerate our research ahead by a lot...perhaps even we can integrate it too..."

Ryosuke found Fila's first claim to be true and after passing magic through the formation, Vetheris disappeared for the fourth time. Well, Vetheris did have his final death cries echo in Ryosuke's mind...not like he cared. Anyways, [Focals] are definitely something else...so he thought. The whole concept of [Curses] and [Magical Girls] was of course puzzling in the first place too...

"But why?"

Why did Fila revive him and take out Vetheris? What merit exists for that [Focal]?

"Well you see, those unexpected magic formations you guys brought over from [Orvinus] as heroes are very interesting. Since they'll definitely prove useful to us, I think that a little reward is in order. Also, since you're clearing out [Curses] and might bring about some changes in the future, I don't see why not. I'm additionally slightly, but only slightly, personally invested since you are acquainted with Ai."

"Really you..."

"Well, that's all for tonight. Enjoy the life you were given, hero."

Fila teleported away as Ryosuke slouched to the floor in distress.

Akito Harada POV:

Now that my superpowered classmates know of my identity, they quickly started interacting with me more at school. It didn't leave a bad taste in my mouth though, in fact, they all gave off favorable impressions. I guess to be a hero, you need charisma too. Anyways, Ai talked to me normally like she always did but Saegusa-san is still a bit awkward...it's all good, I get you!

"So you endow elements to your weapons with mana huh. A lot of people did the same back there but the times I saw you on the news were definitely showing stuff stronger than theirs..."

"Is that so? Well, I'm still untrained and am getting by with pure mana amount though."

"You're doing fine man!"

Sato is surprisingly nice. Though I hope he's not trying to score points with me so he could do things with Aki...I don't think anyone here would stoop that low. I was never this conscious about my own body...is this normal for girls?

"It's true Akito, you're strong now. We really need to fight [Curses] together sometime."

"Alright Ayame, you sure are excited about fighting."

She turned away bashfully in embarrassment. How cute.

"It's not like I like it that much. It just became my main focus and a mental habit when I was training in [Orvinus] with the sword."

The [Sword Maiden] huh, an elemental swordsman like me. Well, an isekai transfer was one of the most important events in all their lives, it would be strange if there were no changes. Ayame became a proper swordswoman...

Rino suddenly changed the quickly switching topic,

"So, how's Hinami-chan Ryo?"

A light but heavy question.

A body fell over in the desk aisle beside us.

"Eh?"

"Oi, are you okay?"

"M-My apologies..."

"It's ok, class rep."

"Thank you."

An ikemen holding out his hand in assistance to a girl is a true hero. Anyways, the one receiving that hand is...

Class representative of 2-A, Shina Arakawa. A ditzy girl with bold glasses and...immodest proportions. Her fine dark hair is slung back in a twisting braid. She has currently tripped over herself and is adorably looking upwards.

She was picked out to be representative in the first few weeks of school starting with an election. Now you may ask, why did such a girl end up in this position? Since elections in schools are pretty much popularity contests, how could beautiful people like Saegusa-san, Ryosuke, or even Ai lose? Well, Ai straight up refused to take the position. When I asked later for her real reason, she said it was because that would jeopardize her 'normal' high school experience. I don't understand her thoughts on this well, but it's true that the work you'd have to do would increase and the class would treat you differently (in a good way). I didn't know she cared about that stuff so much.

Anyways, the others were beaten out because of Shina's true talents. To explain better, while many of my classmates boast high grades including Shina, what separates her from the rest is her specialized ability in handling organization. This has been proven multiple times as she's always the class representative of her class in all different years (is what I've heard). She's also a member of the student council so you could determine that she's responsible from a mile away.

That's why she was chosen for the job. It's because she was simply qualified. She was qualified to the point where popularity didn't matter, though I didn't think this was really natural for a high school. But, that is how great Shina Arakawa is, having a strange charisma around her...something I couldn't even compare myself with. It would be a mistake to lump her in with the rubble.

"Get to your seats!"

After Ryosuke helped Arakawa-san up, the teacher came in excitedly, ready to sing our ears to sleep with another one of his boring stories. Since it'll bore you too, I'll just summarize the following story and tune out 90% of it. He spoke merrily as everyone shuffled to their assigned seats. The Ai next to me is oddly cheery...

So basically, the story describes our teacher being begged by his ex to go beat up some people. I don't know if it's believable or if this is really something you should be telling to high schoolers...

Anyways, after that class period, we got a final announcement from him,

"We have a class trip to the XXX aquarium soon."

It might be at an out-of-place time, but who am I to complain?

"Thouria...Rinku...do you think you can do it?"

"We have to do this or our world will face true destruction."

She looked over with a solemn face and a hint of sadness.

"I pray for your safety and our past saviors."

"Thanks, Raldia-sama. We'll definitely meet up with the heroes and return here."

"I'm sure of it..."

They are surely there and willing to save us...

The faces of 7 adolescents spring to her mind.

"Surely..."
