Chapter 30: V2C15 – Confrontation and Duty

After Hayase-san fixed everyone up to acceptable levels and Shiraishi-san used the spell [Clean] on the nearby blood stains, the group turned to me. The first one to speak was a somewhat awkward Ryosuke,

"U-uhm, thank you very much."

His sister was saved after all. The group overall was still on guard against me though...

"So, you're a student from the same--"

Before Tatsumi could finish, Fujiwara-san cut him off.

"Harada-kun right?"

Well, my cover's blown.

"Eh? Akito!?"

Ayame was the first one to respond to Rino's claim. I guess I can't hide this any longer. I undid my black mana coating, revealing my Aki form.

"Is that really you Akito?"

I can't lie to Ayame and so I silently nod.

"I don't really know how to feel about this..."

"Eh!? You're that Harada in our class!?"

They look even more uneasy, let's shift the mood a bit.

"Um, I have no intention to fight so please relax..."

Ryosuke had a defeated expression. The group began asking questions consecutively...

"Why did you help us?"

"Isn't that pretty obvious? We're classmates and you guys are friends of Ayame so why wouldn't I?"

"What a surprisingly simple answer...so how come you can become a girl?"

"Eto...secret!"

"Why does mana detection always mark you as something evil?"

"My strength comes from the [Curses] I defeat so..."

"What a cheat power...is that why you feel even more disgusting after absorbing the [Demon Lord]."

"Disgusting is a bit much...well anyway, why don't I ask you guys some questions? I just need to confirm but you guys are heroes from another world called [Orvinus] and were aiming to defeat the [Demon Lord] Vetheris who escaped to this world right?"

Their jaws slightly dropped.

"H-How did you know that? We were keeping closed lids on that stuff weren't we!?"

"I have my ways."

They swallowed their astonishment.

"Well, it's as you said. We're returnees and heroes from the world of [Orvinus]. We returned to find that Vetheris survived and so we were after him. Someone got to him first though..."

"Alright, it makes more sense now. Oh, and by the way, my identity is secret okay?"

"Understood."

"Glad we could reach that. Now, we should head off to the class we skipped..."

"You're right, but we're all going to have a long chat about this soon enough. Got it Akito?"

"Got it Ayame..."

My identity was found out but I guess that won't jeopardize Yoru too badly...I hope. The remaining school day afterward finished without a hitch, but my mind was preoccupied in a swirl of thoughts.

When I opened my door after coming home from school, there were 8 people inside. That's right...Ayame has a spare key.

"H-hello?"

Starting off with a greeting sounding like a question...

"Yo, Akito."

"Hey Harada-kun."

"Sup."

"Why are you all in my apartment!?"

"Well, we're here to welcome our new ally, isn't that right?"

"Ally? I can fight [Curses] with you if you want..."

My eyes lingered over to Ai for a quick moment and she just smiled back.

"So, let's have that chat shall we? Pour some tea."

"You're awfully comfortable in another person's home Fujiwara-san."

"Rino is fine with me."

The light is blinding me.

"You can call me Ryosuke too."

Ikemen smiles are dangerous.

"Tatsumi for me."

Is it alright to close the distance this easily everyone? Anyways, I pour some tea with the little space to the side of my desk. That's when I'm suddenly grabbed from behind by Rino.

"Eh!?"

"Hmm..."

She's examining my body all over with her small yet firm hands.

"I wonder how you do it..."

"Uhm...please...stop..."

"What a cute reaction."

"Ehhh..."

My unbecoming face is making an ever more unbecoming expression.

"Rino! That's enough."

Thanks, Ayame!!!

"Well, it is a mystery how you can transform into such a cute girl...you better not have done anything weird in that form Akito."

"I didn't! I didn't!"

Well, it is my body so it's not like you can tell me what not to do with it. I'll bottle that comment though. I handed the cheap finished tea to all the people in my room and squashed in between them. This room is not meant for 8 people to be here simultaneously. It's like I'm being buried in heaviness, what was your plan here Ayame?

We then began to talk, Ai seems to have promised not to tell anyone else about what is heard here too. So, they told me about how they were suddenly spirited away as 1-st years, their journey, and how they returned later to an Earth crawling with [Curses]. Well, you'd be shocked by that of course.

They were real heroes huh...Ayame was even called the [Sword Maiden]. And, since I knew a bit about the world from Sino, I could understand their story slightly easier. On that point, I also showed them Sino through the ring, and it's a given that they were surprised.

Anyways, after they finished, I told them about when and how I became the [Magical Girl Aki] as well as the details of [Mana Drain]. Of course, they were curious about that since it helped them defeat the [Demon Lord] and made me strong. I didn't tell them a word about the situation with [Focals] though...Yoru was very attentive whenever I spoke.

"So all that happened huh..."

"Un."

"So, if you used [Mana Drain] on the [Demon Lord] to save Hinami-chan, doesn't that mean you got the God of Destruction's blessing?"

"God of Destruction?"

They then told me of the God of Destruction, the immortal rival to Goddess [Ervia] who blessed them over in [Orvinus]. Really, it's all a fantasy! Anyways, it seems that the [Demon Lord] Vetheris had a piece of this God's mana that I stole, meaning I could use it. After being told the details of [Soul Breaking Phantasm], I used it on a randomly decided member of the group for a second. Since the blessing has fallen completely under my will through [Mana Drain], I don't need to say that cringey aria like Vetheris does.

Really, this new broken power shouldn't exist in this world (well it shouldn't) and be in my hands! After testing it, it was confirmed to work...I guess I became even more of a monster. I can give anyone I can identify never-ending mental damage...thank you Yoru for this Aki form so I could avoid damage during the fight earlier. Or should I thank the master for making it so only girls could wield their powers? Back to reality after we all chatted a bit more, which I could somehow keep up with...

"That's all for me tonight, I'm gonna go home. Akito, one day we can fight some [Curses] together."

"Ou."

They all left the room after similar comments and I sighed a big exhale after their presences could no longer be felt by Yoru.

"It seems I've gotten some reliable allies."

A lot happened today, defeating the hero's nemesis [Demon Lord] Vetheris and stealing [Soul Breaking Phantasm]. My identity being found out by my classmates who were returnees...and an unexpected new cooperation with a bright future. I wonder how things will go from here on out...

Ryosuke Hikaru POV:

I closed the door to my room behind me and froze while standing. It's the end of the day where we learned of Aki's true form, Ayame's childhood friend Akito Harada and defeated the [Demon Lord] Vetheris fulfilling Goddess [Ervia]'s will. Or so we thought he was defeated...

"Vetheris, I know you're in there."

"Haha, it seems that my attempt was a success."

Vetheris talked inside of Ryosuke's mind.

"Possession?"

"No, I don't have the energy for that currently...that Aki--Akito took a lot from me."

"Leave my head and pass on to the next life [Demon Lord]."

"Now now, don't be so uptight. I survived by sticking my unabsorbed pure mind to the most mentally defenseless person in the vicinity at the time...it was a lot of work. You happened to be quite weakened by emotion, my [Soul Breaking Phantasm], and were close to my previous vessel. Anyways, this makes you the perfect candidate for the start of my resurgence. How about it hero? Join forces with me and together we'll rule the wor--"

"I'm a hero. I can't have someone like you running around freely."

"Is that so. Well, how will you get rid of me then?"

"Simple. As a hero, my duty and obligation, is defeating beings like you. Just watch me..."

"You hardheaded fool."

O Goddess, grant me the power to slay an unthinkable evil

I, Hero Ryosuke Hikaru, call upon the holy treasures bestowed with light

To protect the world and write it over,

[Heavenly Armament]

I brought the [Holy Sword] to my neck. As long as I can severe his current vessel, me, his will won't be able to easily pass to anyone else by sticking.

"You idiot! You'd sacrifice yourself to defeat me!?"

"It's my duty...as a HERO!"

"YOU FOOL!"

Ryosuke beheaded himself in one fell swoop of the glittering sword. Blood splattered all over the nearby wall as his body fell to the side and all light extinguished. There were no second thoughts, just a quick end to the obsessed Hero Ryosuke Hikaru.
