Why did I want to get stronger again? Is it because I found it fun...or freeing? Did I just want to repay Yoru who saved me? Did I think that by becoming stronger, I'd find what I'm looking for? What is wrong with this desire? Nothing...it just wasn't strong enough for me. That's what it is.

If I became stronger, then problems like these wouldn't arise.

Another one bites the dust.

"Rino, you said your family was in this area so are you going to check it out?"

"Yeah, the house is right over there."

She pointed firmly.

Anyways, about the current situation, the creative name of [Second Contact] was given to this cataclysm and has been storming every corner of the news. Casualties are already high and building damage is rampant. [Curses] are appearing all over the world, not just in Tokyo, similarly to that day.

The stationed [Magical Girls] are doing their best and there are protocols in place for this through precedence like an issued evacuation order. But, it's difficult to mitigate the effects even with all that. Hopefully, everyone's families have evacuated safely. Anyways, I go together with Rino to check out the area, it's not like we're slacking on [Curse] slaying...just a slight detour.

"Is this your house Rino?"

It's quite standard for a moderately wealthy family in Japan...if not for the huge crater in its side. Without a word, Rino raced through the door.

"Onee-chan? Are you here?"

She checked her phone and her expression slightly darkened.

"Onee-chan?"

It seems she's only worried about her sister.

"Onee-chan?"

She's made her way through most of the house already.

"Onee...c-chan!?"

She found her. A hole-riddled corpse in a pile of blood on the floor.

Rino Fujiwara POV:

My family situation wasn't the best. My mom died of disease early on and my dad turned to alcohol after that...well he already had a drinking problem. Anyway we, my sister and I, had to live on being sufficient by ourselves. So, I was pretty much raised and provided for by my older sister.

Due to my dad often having foul moods, I developed a tendency to always act bright and happy to appease him. This also had an effect on my friends and classmates so it just became a part of me naturally. But, only Onee-chan knew of my pain and consoled me. That Onee-chan was precious to me...precious. But...

*sob*

Why? Why did she have to die like this? My puddle of tears on the floor was nothing compared to the puddle of blood she swirled in.

"O-Onee-chan...d-don't leave me..."

I had forgotten all about [Second Contact]. Forgotten all about Harada-kun. Forgotten all about the world outside. In the end, I couldn't tell her what happened to me in [Orvinus], and I could never thank her the way I wanted. I didn't even say a proper goodbye. Am I a bad sister? Tell me Onee-chan, tell me...

*sob*

Aki POV:

A normal person, no a hero, would console that crying figure right now. But, I don't have the right, so I turn my back to it all. Her curdling screeches tear at my mental fortitude...so much for an awakened mind. I was also like this when my parents and sister (not really) died too. But, we have [Second Contact] at hand. Rino...

In the end, I didn't have the strength to pull her up and make her face reality. I just stood there. So much for becoming stronger, what am I going to find from this? I'm weak weak weak. Rino, I'm sorry...

"Rino, I'm going back to defend Tokyo from [Second Contact]. I hope...you can come too when you feel up to it."

After hearing me, she wiped her tears and snot with her sleeve...that face hurts my heart.

"It's alright, I'll fight...Harada-kun."

Is this the resolve of a hero? No, Rino, you're strong...that's what it is. Much stronger than me...

It's been days since [Second Contact]'s dreadful start. My [Curse] kill rate has clocked up considerably and once again, most facilities and services have been put on hold. Other [Magical Girls] as well are in constant action. Well, there goes my 2nd-year school life to otherworldly monsters.

Anyways, there are 7 new individuals appearing in Tokyo, taking down [Curses] with wildly unbelievable abilities. This was publicated soon after the heroes made their debuts...I guess people are going to start questioning that. The government is already on the lookout for the heroes, but all they want to do is kill [Curses] and defend the people.

Overall, the situation is grim, and I don't think any of us 9 feel great. There is irreparable damage to society and we're working ourselves to the bone. Luckily, all the families besides Rino's were evacuated safely and [Mana Drain] is happy.

All 9 of us are gathered in an abandoned area in a run-down building. We're resting for another day tomorrow of [Curse] extermination, killing them nonstop is a real intense workout...I shouldn't really call it that. Ryosuke,

"[Second Contact], cause unknown. Hundreds nay thousands of casualties. Nearly shutting down all of society...I guess the best we can do is fight them here. Even if we're heroes or [Magical Girls], we can't fight all over the world simultaneously."

"..."

Why did this have to happen...I ask that question over and over. I don't think my life will ever return to what it used to be. No, I won't let it, if there is ever another chance...

*knock knock*

I was caught off-guard. Who? This area is abandoned...and why would they know what house had people in it? Something is fishy here...

*knock knock*

"Rino?"

"It's safe...open the door."

Rino's voice is slightly haggard but those eyes scare me a bit.

*door opens*

Only 7 people in the room reacted.

"R-Ryosuke-sama? Its Ryosuke-sama right?"

"Eh!? Rinku!? Why are you here?"

"Aaaaahh Ryosuke-sama!"

The girl in seemingly catgirl cosplay leaped onto Ryosuke without care. The girl behind her with silver hair and a dark robe stood by the door.

"T-Thouria?"

"Yes, a pleasure to meet you all again heroes."

She emphasized heroes and glared at me, what's up with this person. Ai spoke up,

"So, who exactly are they? You guys seem to know who they are..."

"Ah, right. Nakano-san, Aki, meet Rinku and Great Sage Thouria. They helped us out a lot in [Orvinus]."

Huh?

"You said [Orvinus]?"

"Yeah."

"Then, how are they in this world!?"

"Well, I don't know. Let's talk first...come have a seat. Coming to this world for the first time must've been hard."

Ryosuke offered the hard stone sitting arrangements, with a smile. Do you really need to be so nice? Well anyway, I somehow can't shake the feeling that these people have something to do with this sudden [Second Contact]...

What is truly unforgiving, the cause or the change? I would like to see that for myself.
