Chapter 35: V3C3 – Unforgiving (1/2)

"This is...!"

The sky tore in twisting reflections and black masses poured out from them. Hundreds, no, thousands of [Curses] descended at once, almost like...

"...[First Contact] all over again."

Ai muttered uneasily.

"Yoru, what's going on?"

"I don't know, I could sense something massive coming but to think that the [Curses]..."

"Weren't they being cleared out by [Magical Girls]? "

"Yes, [Magical Girls] have been defeating them and we [Focals] have been doing our best defending the space from them appearing but..."

"How could this have happened? The city is in anarchy!?"

"We need to defend the people we can first..."

Suddenly, a group came up from behind us. It's the rest of the heroes!

"What is this?"

"Yoru doesn't know, but there is one thing we know for sure...the [Curses] suddenly increased the intensity of their attack on Earth."

"We need to stop them!"

"Moving as a big group would be inefficient, let's go our separate ways or in small groups and defend as many people as possible."

"Roger that."

Ryosuke took command so easily, he's used to this.

"I'm off!"

"Me too!"

The group dissolved after that quick affirmation and we went off throughout Tokyo, trying our best to save the unsuspecting people from [Curses]. Some of us stayed behind to defend the aquarium so it should be fine. Also, Sato had some spare weapons to give to the unarmed in a hurry through his [Item Box]. Anyways, the teacher is probably freaking out about why we aren't there...and the hero's faces will probably become publicly known, but that isn't the time to think about that. Right now...we need to deal with this situation.

So, the person I left with is...

"Rino, I'm counting on you."

"Yes, Harada-kun...I mean Aki."

As we roamed the eery streets, physically enhanced, we spotted three big humanoid [Curses] trashing buildings. These [Curses] aren't normal human shapes...it's like they have 3x more muscle mass. There's a person next to them...!

"P-Please save me!"

We were so close. Yet...

*slosh*

Their head was crushed in the [Curse]'s meaty hand and blood poured onto the sidewalk. I felt a bit lightheaded, how sickening...

Nonetheless, I summon my [Realizers] and strengthen my whole system with mana.

"I'm no hero, but as a [Magical Girl], I'll fulfill my role!"

I step in with a flash and shove my blazing blade to the [Curse]'s face in a mana vortex. Using enough force, the [Curse]'s head was blasted off. The other two [Curses] looked over with crazed expressions, though it was hard to tell, towards their ally's murderer. I'm ready too, come!

[Lightning Form Realizer: Black Lightning Vortex]

I need to save my mana to save even more...I must. I blew the [Curse] to my left's [Core] into pieces and it disintegrated. Piercing sure is easier with lightning. Now for the last one...

Sino!

Sino manifested again to my side and bestowed [Wind Enhancement].

"Behind you!"

It seems that Rino's magic detection and my mana eyes agree, the bulky [Curse] went in for a charge. Not like I'll let you, 

[Fire Form Realizer: Dark Flame Vortex]

I thrust a burning hot fire-cladded blade into the [Curse]'s mouth and slash downwards. Using my second cutlass, I cleave the area of the [Core] with [Fire-Lightning Form Realizer: Dark Flaming Thunder Enhancement]. As it was removed, the final of the three [Curses] went down like that...

"Wow! I didn't even get to do anything..."

"We have more work to do, let's get going."

She thought," Harada-kun sure is strong...and pretty."

Anyways, as we continued forward, we put down all the [Curses] in sight. Is this saving people I wonder? The scene of the first woman's head being reduced to a sea of blood rings through my head. No, I can't! I need to focus on saving people...yes. Then that Yoru said to a conflicted me,

"Your priority is killing [Curses] okay Aki?"

"Yeah, that's what I'm doing."

"Don't mix up 'saving people' with '[Curse] killing,' you didn't become a [Magical Girl] for such a reason."

"But..."

"I know, it's cruel to tell you not to. I just wanted to let you know."

"Noted then, Yoru."

Seeing the mangled bloody bodies, seeing them die right before my eyes though...with no time to process...

My glare became downcast, I simply don't like this feeling. What is this, people screaming for mercy...corpses forging piles?

"Aki!!!"

"Rino!? Wai--"

The [Curse] I was currently fighting squashed a young boy into the floor. His disfigured arm twisted in agony...no he's dead now.

"Sh*t, how could I have done better..."

I can't help but think this way. Why is this happening? How come Yoru couldn't predict this? Why can't I save them? How did things turn out this way? Like a storming raging inside me was unleashed, my brain thought in overdrive. I could tell myself it wasn't my role all I want. But, that doesn't shirk the sight of suffering from me. It's like something is being forced out from me...

After using the combination of a flaming wind blade with Sino's help, I finished the [Curse] and made haste towards Rino. I have no room to think anymore. And Rino is...caught by the leg by a human [Curse]...how useless I mean annoying. I guess that isn't better, but my honest feelings are running black since I have no time to spare. I need to protect, I can't have wasted time when people are dying to [Curses] by the second. Really, the unexpected creeps up on you...why are the cracks in the sky, the [Curses] unforgiving like so?

"Get down!"

I used [Hexad Barrier] to get a footing and slashed down to the [Curse] on Rino, beheading it with a burst of sparks. 

"Rino, are you okay?"

"Yes--"

"Hm? What is it?"

With no time to breathe, I then notice it too with my eyes. I'm surprised at my own calm. A great presence of [Curses] gathering in a certain area...

"Are we going there?"

"Yeah, I need to. My family is in that area."

"Let's get there quickly then."

"Ou."

We set off towards [Curses] again, doing our thing like we ought to do. My thoughts race, my intentions question themselves...I, the [Magical Girl Aki].

The influx of [Curses] entering Earth through the sky that day, was detrimental to humanity. The people who thought that the world was returning to normal were betrayed, and the population suffered many more casualties than [First Contact]. After all, there were more incoming this time around...and the number seems to be increasing. [Curses]...what a frightening foe. Blood is spilled and corpses mountain, what will happen I wonder...
