Chapter 46: V3C14 – The Demonic Front (2/2)

(Note: Sorry for POV changes frequently but I think they're important :p)

Yaido POV:

"Charge!"

"HAAA!!!"

Our new lord commences the attack, even I find it quite admirable that she jumps courageously to the front lines with us. I, the [Demonic Blade] Yaido, am loyal to the [Demon Lord] status and am equivalent in the system to the [Holy Kingdom]'s [Sword Saint] status. I haven't fought the famed leader of the knights, Gauss, before though.

I briskly rush in at a visible distance from Aki-sama while listening to the overhead voices of my general colleagues. By the way, the reason I'm not responsible for a unit is that my ability to lead is just plain messy. Apparently, I'm 'confusing,' 'reckless,' and 'too harsh.' Jeez...

[Physical Enhancement]
[Dark Flame Blade]
[Multiple Slash]

I spin around and wave the [Curses] away using a tornado of black fire. I haven't broken a sweat, but the horde isn't letting up either. I must continue to do my best...

My clanky grayish platinum-like armor and streaking black hair twirl with quick movements as I tear through another body. Then, I catch a glimpse of distorting black lightning in my peripheral. Consciously looking for the source of the phenomena, I inwardly warm at the scene. There, is a fairy of the battlefield. There, is a princess of darkness. There, is the [Demon Lord] fighting passionately. Her beautiful curves are blurred by stunning movements like an assassin's dance...rather, a war goddess's entrancement.

Bursts of black mana that gobble enemies in a flash wrap around her like a shower of oscillating shimmers. Though I was enchanted, my body still easily dealt with the simple-minded beasts coming my way and I returned to my own fight soon. Aki-sama, your fight is truly wonderful, it has charmed me. Well, I was only one of the many charmed by Aki-sama then.

Konno POV:

"Charge!"

"HAAA!!!"

Aki-sama has ordered us to attack uuu...

Well, I guess I better do my job. I look back nervously to my demon magician unit, their stares pierce through me. My face scrunches up and I take a deep breath. For Aki-sama's sake, I stand up like a board and meet the gazes of my unit. My large round eyes smeared blue like the reverent sky...

Clearing my voice, I bellow,

"ALRIGHT, YOU WORTHLESS MAGGOTS! TIME FOR WAR! PREPARE [Fire Spear] AT MAXIMUM OUTPUT!"

""Yes, Konno-sama!""

My normally soft voice is replaced by a scratchy and demanding one. My unit recognizes the change and position their catalysts accordingly.

"AREN'T YOU READY YET YOU TAWDRY IDIOTS? FIIRREE!!!"

"'HAI!""

Blazing beams of flame perforate the enemy lines and explode, giving cover to the ground troops.

"CONTINUE SUPPORT! I DON'T THINK ANY OF YOU LACK THE SKILL TO AVOID YOUR OWN MEN, DESPITE BEING TRASH!"

They prepare another round of magical explosive spells. Pure mages support during large battles, that is how [Orvinus] conducts war. Anyways, I get a bit carried away as I shout out my chords and join in. It's for Aki-sama after all~

Riord POV:

I bust into the moshpit of [Curses] and fix my blade to a noble stance.

"HAA!"

I raise my voice and sharpen my body, cutting down on an incoming beast like an enormous centipede. Twisting my torso to intercept another [Curse], a panther that tried to pounce me, I shake it off and leave a mark on its neck. Since [Curses] aren't normal organisms, I'd have to try harder than that...But then--my attention is pulled away by one of my [Dark Knights] staggering in an unexpected direction. One arm is gone, but I still recognize that physique...

"Riordus!"

My wounded brother is in the heat of the battle, I can't let him die like this! I quickly finish off the panther [Curse] and rush to my brother's side.

"Nii-san..."

There was a mix of emotion in his eyes, hints of satisfaction, worry, loneliness...

"Are you--"

Then, a haughty voice suddenly snuck upon them,

"Ara, you two are as close as always, even on the battlefield. [Avin] darling let's break that disgustingness of theirs shall we..."

"!?"

"What are you doing Teona!?"

The so-called greatest monster tamer with a voluptuous body and erotic air only returned a smile. Her eyes weren't smiling though. The presumed [Avin], a bird-like beast boasting size and serrated teeth inside its beak, made its move upon her order. I looked at Teona with contempt, so she was planning on betraying Aki-sama from the start! I thought she was loyal to the [Demon Lord] because she sucked up to Vetheris-sama, but it seems she was only loyal to the latter himself...

I look behind me, a bloody Riordus stared back. Such a talented swordsman must not be lost, my brother must not. I stand in front of him and point my sword, ready to take [Avin]'s strike as it accelerates in the wind to me. I'll knock your head off in a single moment and take your master down too! But, as it came into range, it deviated from an attack...

"!?"

And instead tore into my shoulders with its talons and superhuman strength at I speed I couldn't react to somehow.

"Arghh..."

My joints crackled and my feet began to leave the ground as [Avin] pushed off to the darkening skies.

"Run, Riordus!"

Hesitantly, Riordus ran off hastily after hearing my words. To think that the [Demon General] Teona would go rogue...I look back at the wretched woman.

"So your plan was me..."

Anyways, [Avin] kept reaching new heights, by Teona's orders. I thought to myself, 'this is really bad.' After a while of struggling, I look down at the distance covered and the color drains from my face. At this height, I can tell...I will undoubtedly die. Even with my [Physical Enhancement], or trying to slow myself down with projectile magic, my bones will shatter and my nerves will become unrecoverable all the same. I might live, but the only person who could heal such an injury would be Konno, and with a lot of time and care. Right now, she's across the field taking care of her own things, and I won't last long (assuming I live) after falling into the enemy's hands. I'm confirmed to die...so as [Avin] drops its grip...

I don't scream, I don't grieve. I aim my sword like I'm completely still. I will die, but I'll do all I can for my current purpose. Serve [Demon Lord Aki]. I believe and think...

I wonder what you'll do in the future, I wonder if Riordus will be fine. And please, be careful of Teona. As a knight, I'll strive and persevere to the very end, my feelings represent the hearts of demons right now! I'll rise and pour my power into this last strike. With my sword, I'll grab victory...for you!

The battle-torn ground becomes visible and I put my broken limbs into motion. Despite no power coming out of my arms, the gravity from this height will act as the fuel to a razor-sharp slash. As I use my remaining mana to manifest dark fog around my sword, I narrow my mind to this last moment. I see an opening in the head of a [Curse] and...

The blade passes through like cutting cream, diffusing the body into fading particles. The aftermath is my bloody dead body, and a broken neck, connected to my smiling face.
