Chapter 51: V3C19 – Victory Cooldown

[Cursed One] POV:

[Latent Release]

I felt a change within that long black-haired girl as mana gathered strangely. I can tell her power comes from a source like mine. It was dampened at first, but then it suddenly released itself. That bloodlust, that drive...was all familiar to me. Like my trapped comrades set free, no, they're following her lead even more so? She approaches, but it's useless, she can't beat my regenerative powers. She's also reaching her limit, but then...

"Ai!"

A spear punches a hole in my chest to the heart, without resistance. This is a strange power, to erase matter while being indifferent to density. But, it'll heal soon. Then, in the corner of my eye, I catch the black-haired girl's approaching figure. Turning, I come face-to-face with the presence and am blown away surprised. It's like fighting myself...or watching my own kin point a blade. Is this your--?

She reaches out and grasps my [Core] at the last moment. I have a bad premonition...

After the [Cursed One] was taken down, at the fronts of the war, a celebration was underway:

"They're retreating! We've been saved by the heroes!"

...and...

"They're retreating! We've been saved by the [Demon Lord] Aki-sama!"

The remaining [Curses] began turning around and rushing back to their source in a haphazard fashion. They didn't leave any last attacks after the moment and completely turned their backs. The world(s) were saved, well, there was still a surprise at the demonic front...

"Ara? The [Curses] are pulling back? Hmph, well that means that Aki-sama has finished her role. She must be quite weakened, or dead for all I know. It's not like it matters. Anyways, it's the perfect time for our plan."

"Yes, of course, Teona-sama."

She spoke to the necromancer at her side, Griskiel, who was wearing very very suspicious and dark clothes. He activated the large spell, and dead demon corpses on the horizon began to pick themselves up. The user of such magic used the stench and aura of death in this place as fuel.

"Gaaa..."

"Y-you're still alive!?"

"No...they're zombies!"

"H-how? Why?"

The demon troops staggered back easily, even though they pushed this far. Teona laughed to herself,

"Hahaha, this will surely be enough. With this demonic zombie army, I can take the spot of [Demon Lord]. They can't fight back against their own kin. Taking advantage of this chaos was the right choice."

The [Demon Lord] doesn't have to have the God of Destruction's blessing, but those that do get auto promoted to the status. There are other ways too, like forcefully taking the spot or election. Teona is obviously not loyal to the status, in fact, she wants it for herself. 

"I was doing well rising the ranks, but Vetheris-sama went and lost the war while dying in the process! Then, the new monster Aki-sama appeared out of nowhere and took control. She even ordered to prioritize these [Curses] and didn't even think about the vomit-worthy humans! She did indeed have power, but it's all meaningless since the [Demon Lord] spot is mine alone! I made many a dastardly beasts my pets and even formed connections with the demons of the underworld to aid me through compensation (like Griskiel), only to be foiled...After removing the figures harming my chances of rising like that idiot Riord, I was on the right track...well I'm still going to win this."

The traitor Teona was preparing a coup d'etat. But before that,

"Y-You traitor!"

A small voice echoed through the uneasy and spongy air. Konno stood before Teona with tattered clothing and a mean expression.

"Ara, Konno...so you came back after running away last time."

Konno had used an emergency [Teleportation] to escape Teona's trap during combat.

"I-If I didn't run, I'd be killed by you!"

"Your spatial magic is as troublesome as always, but even you can't stop me now!"

"!?"

"I have this army, my beasts, and proper backing...Aki-sama is an unfavorable element, but I'll face it head-on."

"Y-You..."

"What? You can't join me, you dirty nuisance."

"Hmph...hahaha."

Her tone shifted coldly.

"Why're you laughing?"

"You're not good at detection, so you haven't sensed it yet hahaha...!"

"You demented little girl, what do you see!?"

"Look up."

Teona and Griskiel look up to the sky, as a giant thunderbolt strikes their spot. No [Physical Enhancement] or barrier of theirs could stop it.

*crash*

In a single moment, what remains are two charred clumps that lose shape and blow away gently in the wind. The revived demon army's strings are cut without a necromancer to manipulate them all, and relief washes over the living once again. Seeing such powerful lightning magic, and this presence, it must be the work of...

"Looks like they've done it huh..."

The presence of [Spirit King] Eurevos dropping by.

Aki POV:

Ayame is currently hugging me, and those are wonderfully pressing against my stomach. Hayase-san kindly closed my open wounds, but they might reopen if I'm too rough...

"I'm okay, Ayame! It's just fatigue. No worries of mana deficiency either."

I did just eat up a mana monster so I'm raring to go in that aspect. My entire pool is definitely multiple times bigger than before...at least over 3x.

"I see, that's a relief. Anyways, let's talk about that last move you did! It was great, but you became really scary, well from a magical standpoint you're already plenty scary."

"It's a spell the God of Destruction gave to me, I was able to slip into the [Divine Realm] while unconscious."

Control? Like, necromancy? Whoever tried to take advantage of the war and raise the dead here was probably an enemy then...or at the very least a scumbag. So, I don't really care if they died.

"I also healed some of the troops of the demons and humans I passed by."

Casually using such wonderful magic, truly a [Spirit King].

"Thanks for that too. So, where were you the whole time we were battling?"

"I was taking care of the other corners of the world. The ones without defenses, since [Curses] spewed from all directions and the demons nor humans covered them all."

"I see, it must've been a tough job taking care of that yourself."

"It's fine, I'm powerful after all."

Well, very blunt there.

"Here, let me fix you up."

A warm light, incomparable to Hayase-san's was rained down upon our bodies. In the next moment,

"The pain is gone!?"

"My muscle fatigue too!"

Wow, how did the world ever die with beings like you around?

"Thank you very much."

"It's the least I can do for this world's saviors. Now, anything else you want? Like, an exclusive [Contract] or something?"

Do I even need it at this point? Suddenly,

"Aki-sama doesn't need anything from you! She has me after all!"

Sino manifests from my ring, but as far as I can tell, she's using nearly all of her mana just to project. You just woke up, don't push yourself,

"Oya? The [Vicious Gale] Sino, haven't seen you in a few hundred years."

"I was sealed in a ring! Too bad it was hardly detectable..."

"I see, well you're free now, and you look happy."

"Sure am, master is here after all!"

(Note: The reason why she didn't appear at Aki and Eurevos's first meeting was that she didn't find it necessary when Aki was under pressure from a mission. That's actually an excuse, in other words: I forgot)

I awkwardly smile. With a heartwarming beam after seeing an old acquaintance and a nod, Eurevos turns to...

"So, the heroes...shall I reward you?"

""Yes please!""

Wait, Sino just made me lose out on rewards! C'mon!

"Alright then..."

Like giving out candy on Halloween, Eurevos gave treats to all the good kids~ (me included thankfully)

"I just put a unique mana inside each of you, it should increase your affinity with spirits since it lets them know you have a gift directly from me, the [Spirit King]."

Huh, it might be useless when we leave this world, but thanks nonetheless. I can't help thinking of it like the [Spirit King] putting his 'scent' on us. Anyways,

"Well then, I'll get going. Use this if you ever need me for a reason~"

He hands me a wooden whistle, I can tell it's been enchanted with some kind of magic formation. To contact...with such a guy...

"Thanks!"

"I'm off~"

He teleports away. Back to relishing in the victory,

...my insides warm as we all look to the rising sun. The [Curses] marching back home, and no more screams of terror...we did it!!!
