Chapter 7: V1C7 – The Progress of Training

It's been three months since becoming a [Magical Girl], and my current self is a far cry from who I was before. By that I mean, my abilities. Draining the mana from enemies and killing numerous [Curses] day by day is bound to show results. This was exactly it, my mana capacity is undoubtedly abnormal for a [Magical Girl]. In fact, it's multiple times greater than average, which is to be expected when my ability is for increasing my mana pool. My mana manipulation training has also gotten far, as well as attribute bestowment to [Realizer].

The mana bombs created from [Cores], I call them [Core Grenades], also helped me greatly in various [Curse] fights. Before the battle, I can infuse them with any attribute making them versatile and they're easy to use as well. For example, infusing it with light attribute mana makes it produce a blinding flash when exploded (Note: Light mana can't be infused with dark mana since they directly reject each other). Infusing it with darkness can block out light, Earth can make a smokescreen of sand. I can even use it as my male form due to my practice with mana manipulation.

When I transformed from Aki to Akito, I noticed that even normal humans can use the power of mana but not easily. The reason being that they can't feel the flow of mana. I've already experienced it multiple times because of Yoru, so manipulating my male body's mana was tricky but doable. With my small amount in that form, I can only set off a few [Core Grenades] before running out of mana...by the way, [Mana Drain] doesn't apply to my male body either. 

Anyways, since [First Contact], many facilities are reopening due to the presence of [Magical Girls] and society got back on track. I was practicing my artistic abilities during my hikikomori life so I haven't completely lost my touch and job...but I guess I got carried away with defeating [Curses] for a while. Well, it's an important endeavor! School is reopening again after this summer so I should prepare to live out my 2nd-year youthfully too. [Magical Girls] are really a blessing to this world.

"Akito, [Transform]. We have a big one."

"Roger."

[Transform]

In a flash of light, I became [Magical Girl Aki], I changed into this form's clothes and exited the door readily. Since I became Aki, I went to the recently reopened clothes shops and department stores to buy women's clothes, I did it as Aki so it wasn't suspicious (I promise!). 

While being directed by Yoru, I used magic-based physical enhancement to race to the destination. Yoru can no longer keep up with me normally so it usually teleports to follow me. After a quick sprint to the scene, I see three bear-shaped [Curses] destroying nearby buildings...time for revenge!

The number of [Curses] since [First Contact] was thinned out by [Magical Girls] but there are still some that roam or exist in large amounts. Fortunately, I've had the luxury to fight a select few numbers of [Curses] in a single battle since I became a [Magical Girl] a bit later after the first. But, these three [Curses] are powerful...I can tell that this will be a tough battle.

[Magic-Based Physical Enhancement Formation: 8%-eyes 20%-arms 20%-legs]
[Magic-Based Weapon Manifestation Formation: 20%-cutlass]

I manifested [Realizer] right when the bears noticed me. They immediately came to me and pounced with their sharp claws, just like that time...but, now I can fight! 

[Core Grenade: Light]

I slammed the mana-filled [Core] to the ground and blinding light mana engulfed the battlefield while I closed my eyes. Upon reopening them, I saw the disorientated bears staggering in their walks,

[Lightning Form Realizer: Black Lightning Vortex]

This is one of my new moves, [Black Lightning Vortex]. Even more sinister wrapping lightning twirls around my blade, completely cladding it in dazzling bolts. Vortex is like enhancement but more violent and powerful, and hard to control. With the sword controlled by me in the center, I took the blade of raging mana and trusted it towards a [Curse]. As if their skin was butter, it melted gruesomely with my sword disconnecting a chunk of the bear's side. [Realizer] creaked from the rebound since it can't handle too much mana at once, just a point to remind me that I need to work my best in mastering strengthening through mana. It can repair though so no worries.

The bears that weren't attacked regained their composure and aimed for my head. My [Realizer] is still on a brief cooldown from mana...how should I deal with the incoming attack? Well, its time to show another fruit of my hard work.

[Magic-Based Weapon Manifestation Formation: 10%-cutlass1 10%-cutlass2]

Another [Realizer] appeared in my other hand and I waved it in the direction of the attacking [Curses]. My increased mana capacity and strengthening practice have allowed me to create two versions of my [Realizer] that can be dual-wielded. 2 swords 2x attack power right?

In the newly created cutlass,

[Fire Form Realizer: Dark Flame Vortex]

A spiral of fire spat out from my blade and engulfed the bears in intense blackened flames. I'm fighting advantageously against the bears, but my mana might not hold out if I continue to unleash attribute-based enchantments on my weapons constantly. So, I direct my allocatable mana into my body and [Realizer] strengthening. I should be practicing my raw sword skills and battle sense as well.

*slash*

I step forward from the flaming vortex that was created a second ago and slashed my sword diagonally onto the retreating bear. The wound wasn't deep so I approached even closer with an even bolder step.

"Haa!"

By slamming the sword into the bear's side and rotating naturally, the two halves of its body were disconnected and it dispersed into the air. Looking to the side, I find the other bear trying to take advantage of my shown opening. I quickly unmanifest one of my swords and reach into my back pocket to pull out a [Core Grenade: Wind]. I threw it after activating it right onto the bear's face. Surprised at the unnatural wind that forced itself into its face, the bear briefly stopped its assault. At that moment, I spread my mana into my sword and bestowed two attributes,

[Fire-Lightning Form Realizer: Dark Flaming Thunder Enhancement]

After my sword began glowing I slashed it downwards at the bear's chest, cutting it deeply and forcing it to disperse after a while. I want the empty [Cores] for more grenades so I'd like to avoid piercing them if I can. The bear I bashed up earlier finally regained itself and headed to me but just one isn't a threat to me. 

[Core Grenade: Dark Flame] x 2

I threw both stones at the bear's face and chest, landing precisely where I wanted them to. Hopefully, that shaved off some of the [Curse]. In my hand, I readied for my manifested cutlass to burst forth.

[Darkness Form Realizer: Dark Vortex]

Pitch black twisted around my sword and the dim lights around me cut off. Trusting my instincts, I forcefully slashed at the last bear [Curse]. [Curses] are resistant to the darkness element, but with this amount, it should be fine.

"Gurooo..."

After hearing the bear's death cry, my internal mana increased from [Mana Drain] and the enhancement on my sword disappeared. What was left was a mangled corpse that slowly wafted away into the starry night. This is about my capabilities currently, and I'll continue to train them tomorrow and the day after that...

"Hey Yoru..."

"Hm?"

"I feel like I can see mana..."

"You mean you're feeling it? Isn't that normal for you since a while ago?"

"No, it's like I can actually see the mana."

"Oh, are you using physical enhancement on your eyes?"

"Yeah..."

"Then, your eyes were upgraded to the point where you can actually see mana. It's at the level where it can be used for mana detection."

"This is amazing..."

There doesn't seem to be any atmospheric mana in the air, only the ones in my body. It's like a movie with really good effects, but the sensation is totally real. 

"With that, you should be able to perceive what has a lot of mana or not...so it can be used to determine the relative strength of [Curses]."

"I see, so this is a really useful ability then..."

I played around with my ability to detect mana through my eyes for a while until I got used to it.
