“Akira. Hunting those two is not allowed!”

 

In the dim ruins, a girl’s voice resounded.

 

The girl that Kazuki called Kaya and the Illegal Magic User named Earth Snake were there. The two of them were living inside a ruined complex, laying casually on beds.

 

This ruined complex was originally a hotel and some of the original ownerless items remained -- the original owners had been slaughtered by Kaya and Earth Snake six months ago.

 

“Those two people are very important, this is why you cannot attack them. They are very important to me…so I will be the one to kill them.” Kaya’s head hurt as she spoke.

 

…What did I just say?

 

She felt that those words didn’t make sense.

 

Shaking her head, driving away the doubt, Kaya looked back at Earth Snake, who was staring at him with an expression of incomprehension.

 

“It’s the reason that we started Stigma Hunting so close to the Academy. If we can either crush enough Knights to have them sent out against us…or even capture them when they go for a walk -- which would be for the best -- then they can return to my…our, side. This is the goal!”

 

Kaya felt slightly disgusted as she looked at her companion. The man’s gaze was empty as he lay on the bed silently.

 

Why am I together with such a creepy person?

 

…It’s because everyone that I love from the orphanage had been killed some time ago.

 

No, no, or did I run away…? My memories, are vague--

 

No matter. Everybody is gone. So that is why I must find brother and Mio. Those two must be killed…next time, they must not be allowed run away.

 

Kaya let out a whimper as agony lanced through her head.

Even in this state, she knew that it was strange for her to wish to kill people who were important to her.

 

I, am not thinking straight. The impulse was almost overwhelming when I saw brother again.

 

Another lance of pain shot through her head, the sheet under her head was changing from white to crimson…her nose was bleeding.

 

After Kazuki and Mio abandoned her, all she could do was cry alone every day. However, every night, she would meet with an unknown Spirit in her dreams.

 

This was the beginning of every thing.

 

“If you form a contract with me, I will give you the same power as those two.” Was the seductive offer the Spirit gave her.

 

Kaya knew about the stories of Spirits corroding the minds and wills of people that they trick.

 

But, that Spirit…it seems like she was purely sympathizing with Kaya’s trauma. Lending her power to meet the two most important people to her again -- so the young and innocent Kaya had listened to those sweet whispers…and believed it.

 

After forming a contract with that Spirit, her mind had felt a little strange and her memories would suddenly become more bloodthirsty, before restoring to normal. As well as the side effect of if she considered someone a brother or sister, she felt the almost uncontrollable desire to kill them.

 

“It is strange…What did you do to me? Give me back my mind! Oi…answer me, Loki!” Kayla grabbed her head as the pain appeared again, “Loki!”

 

But no matter how long she waited, no matter how she called, there was no response.

 

After waiting for the pain to fade, Kaya lay on her back and covered her eyes, allowing her mind to drift. She remembered that the Academy was having a special competition in a week, which was a good opportunity to sneak in.

 

The Academy generally prohibited the public from entering school grounds.

 

Kaya held her head, squirming around.

 

Nearby, Akira stared mindlessly.
