Three Hours Earlier--

 

“Traveling in a train like this, it feels like a trip, doesn’t it~”

 

Kazuki and Mio, both of them in their Academy uniforms, sat side by side inside the Magically enhanced train.

 

“Don’t get too relaxed, okay? This Quest will involve actual combat, you know.” Kazuki said, looking at Mio and grinned.

 

Though, it’s not like Kazuki didn’t understand what Mio meant.

 

Today was the start of golden week, one month since he enrolled. The pleasantly warm breeze of late spring poured in through the open window.

 

Mio’s face was bursting with a massive smile, a heart mark flew into Kazuki’s Ring.

 

In the span of the month since rekindling the relationship with his former childhood friend, her affection level had shot up.

Mio look around restlessly, noticing only a few nearby people -- likely observers assigned by the Knight Order -- were nearby, She then approached and lay her head on Kazuki’s shoulder.

 

“Kazu, wake me up when we arrive~” She whispered, before looking up at him with a wide grin, “It’s okay, I’m not really sleeping. I just want to do this.”

 

She clutched Kazuki’s hand and entwined their fingers.

 

Kazuki stayed silent -- unable to stop the grin from spreading across his face -- and felt the warmth of Mio’s body as it rested against his.

Kazuki and Mio walked from the train station to the gate built into the large wall -- built to protect normal citizens, to stop the spread of Monsters -- that surrounded the Corruption. A Knight in his mid-twenties, along with a Summoner of the same age, stood guard at the gate to inspect the people trying to enter.

“We were dispatched from the Knight Academy, please allow us entrance.” Mio said to the men in a polite tone.

 

“Academy brats, huh?” The Summoner grinned as he said good-naturedly. “There are only two of you?”

 

Kazuki looked around, noticing that the beautiful woman who had been sitting at the bar in the train, and her companion, were standing a short distance away -- he had noticed that the surveillance had become a little more obvious ever since he fought Loki.

 

“Yes.” Mio replied with a nod.

 

“Alright, let your Magic flow into your Stigma until it glows.” The Knight said, looking at the symbols on Kazuki and Mio’s left hands.

 

When the pair’s Stigmas glowed, the scanning device beeped and then compared the data that had been placed in the main Academy Quest office, confirming that both Kazuki and Mio had accepted the certain Quest.

 

“Alright, if the situation gets too bad -- shoot a Spell into the air and Knights will be sent in to save you. This place is mostly used as a training ground…we can’t have students dying here.”

 

With those words, the Knight and Summoner sent Kazuki and Mio off.

While the two moved forwards, they noticed that the normal-looking scenery gradually changed into strange and crooked things. It began as a country road, and turned into a wetlands -- the trees’ colour changed, looking poisonous. The presences of Monsters began appearing deeper in the swamp.

 

Mio looked around excitedly, “When Kazuki and I unite, we are unrivaled! Starting now, is the beginning of the legend of me and Kazuki!”

 

“...Mio, saying things like ‘unrivaled’ and ‘legend’, even if you meant it as a joke, only sounds like failure flags.” Kazuki rolled his eyes.

 

“Why are you saying things like that~?”

 

--And three hours later, Mio’s flag, became reality.
