02: Prologue [2]
—-
Nova would admit that he had seen a lot in his life. But this would be the craziest one of them. This seemed like something impossible, and something straight out of a fictional book. That time when he'd had a 'lovemaking' session with all his women using multiple 'equipment' was really lacking in comparison.
So, when this hot perfect milf had given her hand to him for becoming her Avatar—whatever that was—while looking down on him from her watery throne, he was not sure what to do anymore.
"Avatar?" He asked, and slowly stood up, dusting off his suit- . . . what? Where is his suite?? He looked down, and little Nova Frost greeted him limply. Oh, for fuck's sake, he sighed. He was not ashamed, not at all.
Nudity was nothing compared to some of the stuff he'd done to stand where he stood . . . he had stood.
Anyway, he liked to show off his nude body to women. As they could just see and not have a bite. It was lucrative that way—especially when he was trying to sedu- woo someone.
Not that he wanted to seduc- woo this hot Goddess in front of him, but still . . . she was hot. And he . . . liked hot.
A chair manifested out of thin water behind him, and another in front of him, with a table separating the two. Now that he thought about it, how was he able to speak inside water? How was he able to breathe? How was it that he felt no pressure on his body? Even when he was underwater?
He took a seat, and the Goddess did the same, her 'chair' more of a throne.
Ah, superiority complex, was it?
"An Avatar, in essence, is a mortal who carries the will of a God or Goddess. They're the direct servant of the God they serve, and in response, the Gods lend them various powers."
Ah. He'd heard that somewhere, where had he heard or read that? He couldn't remember.
Though before that, there was a question he wanted to get out of his mind.
"Who are you then?"
"You don't know me?" she asked rhetorically and continued before he could say anything. "Not surprising since my pantheon was destroyed quite a while ago, and no one remembers us anymore—especially since most of our devotees, believers and such are from Visola, but alas, nothing remains of that world."
He had even more questions now. Like, what the fuck was Visola? But he refrained from asking since she had yet to answer his first query.
"Anyway, about your question. I am Goddess Anari, as I've said so before. I am from a pantheon named Caelestis, atop Mount Caelestis. There are, or were, twelve of us, and I am the only one who remains—the others, dead. The world we made, Visola, destroyed, with nothing but a past remnant remaining."
"that should be enough, for now, I believe?" she asked.
Nova would admit that she was refraining from answering anything; probably, she was uncomfortable. (Heh, she's a Goddess, why is she uncomfortable?)
But he will not ask any further. He would even admit that he had a soft spot for her—Why and how? He did not know, he just did, and he was not someone to mull over it for long and accepted it.
He did not know her, but he remembered something about her. He had read about her somewhere. But he couldn't recall where. It was on the tip of his tongue, alas, he could not remember.
He, making a face as if he was contemplating on what she'd told him till now, observed her—ogled her, even. She noticed, of course, if the grin on her face was of any indication.
But what could she even do? He had quite a thick skin.
Anari wore a white dress, (quite revealing), decorated with a shining gold neck design and a necklace, cut on both sides of her thighs to reveal her pale legs, the Goddess had flowing red—almost auburn—hair that contrasted with her pale skin with a slightly bluish tint.
She wore a silver crown on her head, which matched her almost floating hair and dress. Yes, they were floating—like she was underwater, which she was, actually, not that he recalled where they were.
Nova was not religious, but held a bit of knowledge about many religions—he mostly knew basic knowledge, though.
Out of the very few things he enjoyed—apart from fucking girls and acting—there were fictional stories. Novels, movies, comics, anime, and such, he enjoyed them quite a bit.
He also liked role-playing games (RPGs) and MUDs. Other than that, he held quite a bit of interest in mythologies since young. That's why he thought that he had read about Anari somewhere—it was just that he'd forgotten.
Meh~ he'll remember someday, hopefully.
The Goddess, presumably having given him enough time to consider whatever he was considering, crossed her meaty legs as she snapped her fingers, and two cups of 'Chai' appeared on the table—he couldn't even guess as to how the Chai was not spilling Into the water, or getting mixed. curious.
"I heard you humans like to talk 'business' over Chai?" She asked.
Now, he would personally agree, he liked Chai, a lot, but the way there were only two cups, with one made of gold and decorated with diamonds and the other a very plain white cup, he would have to disagree.
Especially since the Goddess took the diamond cup and Nova was given the other.
He looked up to protest but stopped; his heart racing. What the fuck? What is happening?
Seriously, he was not like those 'teenagers' whose hearts would start beating like crazy the moment they see a beautiful woman. Why was his heart beating? And why did he have this feeling, an almost primal feeling that he should let her do as she wished?
He frowned. Something was fishy.
"A question," Nova asked as he took a sip. "Where did you pluck me from? Since you said that you're from Visola—whatever place that is"
"One of the many mortal worlds, of course." She smiled. "Though it's a different matter how Olu was the one who guided me inside your particular mortal world. It was Midgard, but a really strange one. There was not anything supernatural inside."
Oh. He was 'plucked' from Midgard—aka Earth—and 'summoned' or 'transported' in here. But as she said herself, he was from one of the 'many' mortal worlds, but his world was quite strange since it didn't have anything supernatural.
Earth, the one he was from, didn't have anything of the sort, most likely. Since he would know of any supernatural structure if it existed in his world, it would be weird if he didn't while being a top figure in the world. So, it was more acceptable for him that he was from one of the 'many' mortal worlds.
However, he had to confirm where he was at the moment.
A random reality where Gods of Mythologies were real? Or were there any other alternations he could recognize?
"You said I am from Midgard, right? And from how you talked, there's another Midgard you know of? Where said supernatural exists? So can you tell me where exactly I am? Can I ask you a few questions?"
Anari didn't seem to mind that he, a mortal, wanted to interrogate her. He, of course, had no experience dealing with Gods, so he wanted to be careful lest he really finds himself chilling beside Satan. He was sure now. Satan existed too since this hot milf of a Goddess did.
"Ask away." The deity said, taking a sip from her own cup.
"Where does your . . . cult operate?"
"It did on Visola, but it's gone now, that world's dead. I've been chilling for the past couple of . . . a while." She coughed. "Anyway, at the moment, I have no 'cult' as you've put it. But I am thinking of building one in Midgard—or Earth, as you might refer to it as. Many pantheons operate there, so I am thinking of operating—more like rebuilding my pantheon—there."
His suspicions were spot on, probably. She was operating on Earth along with other pantheons. He just wanted to ask another question to confirm whether it was his Earth or a parallel one. Since, she said that Olu, whatever it was, had guided her to his strange Midgard, where there were no supernatural, and she was operating in a Midgard where there were these supposed supernatural, he wanted to confirm if he was inside that parallel Midgard.
"What, exactly, is the current year, and what's the craziest thing that has happened recently?"
"The year is 2015, nearing its end, and the latest hot news on the planet Earth is about The Avenger defeating Ultron. All while causing some heavy damage to Sokovia. One of the other important news—known to none on Earth, probably excluding a few—is that The Mad Titan forced the dwarves to make the Infinity Gauntlet, which can hold all six infinity stones."
She was calm, Nova Frost however lost his cool. He still maintained a stoic face on the outside though, but his internal confusion had turned into panic.
Marvel . . . it was that shithole?
At least, it was the MCU, from the looks of it. Though he couldn't be sure since it might have other elements too—it was an alternate world, after all.
'Going by her words, the timeline should be after that shitty Ultron movie,' Nova thought. Though noticing her expression, which had remained the same even after he thoughts of something that crazy, he frowned lightly. 'Can she not read my mind?'
She couldn't, could she? She couldn't, he was sure now. If she could, she would've reacted to his thoughts, one way or another. He, a supposed mortal, knew something he should not, after all.
Though just to be careful, he asked one more question.
". . . Are there any Mutants on earth?" He asked carefully.
She was surprised. "You know of the Mutants? There weren't any Mutants on your Earth though, but there might've been, as I was on that parallel Earth for only some time."
Good, this meant that she hadn't noticed anything Marvel-related, or related to any fiction for that matter, in her time on Earth.
"Anyway, yes Mutants do, in fact, exist. Meta-Humans, Aliens, Gods, Cosmic Entities, and many more do too."
That's a lot to take in. so, he took a sip from his Chai. As expected, Chai was better for situations like these.
In any case, now that he had somewhat taken everything in, he decided to speak.
"Okay, enough about that. Can you elaborate more on that offer of yours?"
"Of course, darling." She revealed a smirk, it suited her, and he loved those dimples already. "I wish for you to become my Avatar. Avatars are mortals chosen by Gods to represent their authority in the mortal realm by using the powers lent to them by their said Gods. They are usually given a goal that they need to fulfill, and that's exactly what I have for you." Anari said.
"My Pantheon: Caelestis, is destroyed. Every other God in my Pantheon is dead. Only I remain. Even the world we made together—Visola—Is destroyed. Other Pantheons do not know of us, since I am not from this universe. And I can't face them alone, the main reason being that my Pantheon's Faith has grown weak, almost negligible. "
"When an individual God's Faith point reaches zero, they lose all their powers and fall to the ranks of a Mortal. That's not the case for everyone, such as All-Fathers Odin, Zeus, along with High-Gods such as me, Thor, Poseidon." She let Nova absorb the information. "On the other hand, when an entire pantheon's faith reaches zero, the pantheon along with every being it's made of, they cease to exist."

". . ." Nova was silent for a while. "Then why haven't your Pantheon ceased to exist yet? Since you said that your Faith is almost negligible."
"That Is because of Olu." Before he could ask what Olu was, she continued.
"Where I came from, there existed only Olu from the beginning of everything. Olu, the vacant space of mist that existed before the creation of the world, and out of which the Gods, men, and all things arose. Olu was the perfect balance between order and chaos, light and dark, life and death. That is in my world alone, of course. Since your world and this world was created in another way. When Caelestis and our world got destroyed, Olu sent me here—to remake my Pantheon, and . . ."
Suddenly, she clasped her hands and sighed. "Anyway, to remake the Pantheon, I need to be strong first. And for that, I- no, we need more people believing in us. Believing doesn't just mean praying to us, fearing us also works. But praying is usually better since it gives us more Faith points."
"Some Gods have tried to actively bring more believers under them, but they were punished and sealed. One such example would be Amit; I will tell you her story someday. In any case, since we can't try anything by myself in fear that the other pantheons would target me, I have summoned you." She watched his reaction with a smile. "You are the answer to my problems, to our problems. By being my avatar, by spreading the name of the Caelestis pantheon, you will make me stronger. Later on, we both will be able to make the whole pantheon grow as well. I wish that you become my Avatar."
. . . An Avatar. Nova didn't hate the sound of it anymore. He would admit that he'd never accept such brazen offers, working for a pantheon and praying to a God; that wasn't like him. But, fearing that he might have to chill with Satan if he refused, He decided to accept her offer.
She had, give or take, saved his life—but wait, he died, didn't he? So did it still work in that she saved his life? . . . In any case, she saved his life, and although he was a dick, he liked to repay his debts. He wouldn't scam her . . . that hard.
"I agree-" her face blossomed with a smile. "-but I would like to add or remove some clauses so that we can come to a mutual contract."
She nodded.
That was easy.

***
Nova carefully reread the scroll made of gold in his hand before nodding slowly.
He had tried to negotiate and make her accept some more of his conditions, but they were crazy enough for her to decline. Seeing how desperate she seemed—she tried her best to hide her desperation though—He could have haggled some more and she probably would've accepted some more conditions, but he thought that this alone was good enough.
10 million believers were quite a lot, but he believed he could do it—the world population was nearing 7.339 billion in 2015 after all. Now, it was strange how he'd have to do it on someone else's commands, but he was not her slave, never would be, he was just a . . . mercenary of sorts. Yes. He was a mercenary with a contract span of 10 years.
Moreover, he could just break the contract given just how many powers that surpassed Gods existed in this universe . . . but that's a possibility for later.
"Now, you just have to drop a drib of blood on this contract." The Goddess said as she materialized a knife in her hand, handing it over to him.
Nova gripped it and made a small cut on his thumb, the blood dripped. It fell down, however, its color changed to that of a reflectionless black. It hit the contract, though, and things seemed to go smoothly.
"What was that . . . ?"
"I don't know," Anari shrugged. "Your soul is hidden behind a veil of the void. and It seems like the void cladding your soul affected your body somehow; don't worry though, as you'll just get some additional powers. Such as the ability to stop me from reading your mind. There might be more, but I have no idea as to what they could be." She placed a hand on his head. "I am placing a spell to make sure your blood looks red, at the very least. It would be troublesome if you get hurt and people see black blood. Humans can be very scared sometimes, and don't worry it wouldn't affect your Void powers."
Golden light erupted from her hand and engulfed Nova, but when it ended, however, he felt no apparent change. He tried making another cut, and as she'd said, the red blood didn't turn black no matter how much time passed.
"Anyway, let's finish this, shall we?" Anari asked, more like said, as she cut her own finger, dropping a droplet of blood on the scroll. It glittered in a glorious white glow before it dissipated into particles of light.
Nova checked himself up and down, rubbing his body with his hands . . . he was still naked, he'd almost forgotten. He didn't care though. She could watch all she wanted; she couldn't get a piece after all. She had to become his bitch if she wanted a piece of him. Though he doubted such a thing would happen so soon.
"I don't feel anything." He spoke slowly. He wasn't feeling a surge of power from within like he'd expected. No. he wasn't feeling anything, actually. Where were his golden boons?
The Goddess smiled.
"Close your eyes, relax, and try calling forth something powerful, something primal, from within you." She instructed, and backed off.
Nova was quite familiar with meditation, so he quickly calmed himself before doing what she'd said. Call forth a great power from within.
-Bzzt~ -Splash~
The slight buzz of electricity accompanied by water splashes danced in the back of his ear before something bright erupted from within him. A surge of power engulfed his body. Suddenly, he felt powerful. His muscles twitched with strength and power, with authority to bring anything down. He wasn't sure what powers he had exactly, and the Goddess said he should find out about those himself, but knowing she's the Goddess of Storms, Lady of Love, and the High Seas, Anari, he could make some guesses.
When he opened his eyes again, he found a mirror in front of him, where his body, which had been naked before, stood in a magical costume with thunderclouds crackling around him. He had to say . . . he looked fucking badass.
"Not bad," Anari commented from the side, she did sigh, however. "But alas, I can't see the glorious body I made." He could show her if she wanted. But that's just how far he'll go. Showing. "Anyway, you can change the costume to look however you want."
She talked as if he had chosen this costume himself. Though maybe he did, subconsciously. Since it looked exactly like Moon Kight's suit, except that there was no mask, and there was only a hood. oh, and there wasn't a moon symbol. there was no symbol.
"I guess it doesn't look bad," Nova commented as he checked himself out.
"In any case," the Goddess said after a soft giggle. "I am sending you to the United States."
"Why the US, exactly?" Nova asked.
"Because it is a place filled with Meta Humans. As it turned out, the faith of a Metahuman—while challenging to obtain—is around a thousand times stronger than a normal human, and more if the meta-person in question is very powerful. Meaning, you can finish your contract's first objective just by gathering 10,000 Meta believers. That will ease your job."
Ease his job? Yeah, sure.
"Alright," the Goddess raised her hand and placed a finger on his forehead. "Good luck, I will be watching. oh, and try not to die, or I'll have to revive you."
She pushed him with a finger, and he felt his body swimming away behind. His body slowly spun around his center of gravity as he was about to hit the ground. Though instead of an impact, he found his vision warping and wobbling before his back made contact with something soft.
A bed.
"Huh . . ."
That was a neat trick.
