04: Powers? [1]

After the brainwashing was done, Nova's entire body was sore, and his eyes were completely desiccated. Sextus Dickthunder entered the room Nova was in, so he could ensure that everything went smoothly, and Nova was successfully conditioned(brainwashed).
Sextus uncuffed him, revealing contusions on his limbs. Although the bruises hurt a little, Nova continued to stare at the screen blankly, acting his part as a 'brainwashed' soldier.
Ah. The things he had to go through just after being reincarnated . . . wait. Was it reincarnation? Or was it transportation? It couldn't just be transportation since he was sure that he'd died, but it wasn't a complete reincarnation either—given that he didn't start as an infant, and was, in fact, an adult.
Unexpectedly, Sextus bent forward, his face coming within two-inch proximity of his face. Nova did not like that.
"Who are you?" Sextus asked in a soft, blank tone.
Nova decided to twitch his eyebrows and lips instead of answering. He didn't remember everything from the movies, so he wasn't sure how a 'brainwashed' soldier was supposed to act. Especially just after being brainwashed. So, he decided to go with the "I'm still resisting but am definitely brainwashed!" kind of acting.
Sextus raised an eyebrow. His face was too nigh Nova's. and Nova Frost definitely didn't like that. Not at all. Sextus was old, probably in his late thirties, or early forties. And Nova was thirty-five when he died, so, they were kind of the same age—mentally. (He didn't know how old his current body was though, as it appeared quite young, but he wasn't sure how young exactly. He would ask his Goddess later.) And Nova was not happy when a man (almost) his age was near his face. He hated gays with a passion. Now, Nova knew that Sextus was not gay. Probably . . . right?
Right.
Anyway, there was a reason he hated gays, but that's for later. Seeing Sextus' face so close to his, Nova wanted to cringe, hard, and throw a punch or two at the fucker, but he refrained himself and kept a blank look on his face.
Oh, he was a decent actor, if it hadn't been mentioned before. So acting wasn't really that hard. Why did he learn to act exactly? Simple, he had to work hard to woo some of the women he had in his previous life.
And he learned some acting along the way—he might've even gotten through private tutoring by a female actress. Of course, she was fucked silly by the end too, since her bossy attitude tickled him the wrong way, and that she was hot. Maybe . . . just because she was hot. And Nova liked hot. A bit too much. He would try and refrain himself in this life since the women in the MCU were quite dangerous, so he didn't want to die because of a war between his women.
"From today onwards—" Sextus began, and Nova almost broke out of character due to surprise. He'd been reminiscing too deeply; thank Goddess he didn't slip. Or he might've had to summon his suit and, well, get the fuck out of there after obliterating the base in the most high-profile way possible.
Why would he do it in the most high-profile way? Simple, he wanted to send a message to Hydra's leaders: "Cross me again and you're done." As cringy and edgy as that sounded, he thought that that would be the best method of escaping if his low-profiled plan didn't work.
Though he doubted Hydra's leaders would lose interest in him if he decided to go with the high-profile way. Yeah, their interest would only increase.
"—your name is Sub-Zero. Hydra is your home, your country, and your everything. You will forever be loyal to Hydra, and will forever strive to help Hydra achieve its goals. You will neither hide anything from us nor will you betray us. You will carry out your orders faithfully, and you will sacrifice yourself for the greater good when the time comes."
"Your life belongs to Hydra. You will do whatever you are ordered to do," he added.
"Now, tell me, who are you?" Sextus asked again.
"I . . . am . . . Sub-Zero . . ."
Sextus' eyes lit up.
"Hail Hydra!" He cheered.
"Hail . . . Hydra." Nova followed. By now, Sextus' eyes were glittering, while Nova was reaching his limit. He wanted to cringe. He wanted to cringe so hard.
"Hail Hydra!" shouts came from somewhere.
"Anyway, take him to recover, I will report to the boss," Sextus said to someone, and walked to a corner, calling someone on his special phone, which was pretty much encrypted—Nova could guess that much, being a programmer himself, he knew that some organizations who did illegal deals needed encrypted technology, he himself had made some stuff like that in his previous life.
"Ay, boss? Yeah, yeah, the situation's stabilized. Yes, yes, the anomaly we detected. Yes. It's been secured before anyone else." he said, and then, he stopped to hear something from the other side. "The brainwashing? Yes, it is complete. I oversaw the procedure. There was no issue. What arrangements do you have for Sub-Zero?"
By this time, however, Nova was 'escorted' out of the room already.
***
Nova was, surprisingly, given a new room. Though, calling a cell a room was peculiar, he still would. The cell was unequivocally different than the one where he had been before. Where that one was murky, eerie, and clammy. This one was almost entirely white. With a white room, a white chair and table, with books atop—of course, with white casing.
Oh, and there was a white toilet in a corner as well.
So, yeah, improvement.
Though he knew why he was assigned a white room. it was supposed to bother a person, give them hallucinations, depersonalize them by losing personal identity for extended periods of isolation, or even psychotic breaks. The reason was simple; if the brainwashed 'soldier' had even an ounce of 'himself' remaining, this room would easily extinguish the remnants of that person. And that's why the fuckers had given him a white room—of course, with lights bursting at full throttle. It was almost blinding how white everything was.
After a night's rest, (Nova was, for some reason, unbothered by the whiteness. Maybe It was due to the Void?), Nova was dragged to an isolated training facility, where Sextus awaited him. although Nova was not entirely sure how Hydra managed to find him, and what they had in plan for him, he was sure that his 'powers', as they would interpret his Goddess' powers, would be interesting and valuable in their eyes.
They'd train him to use those said abilities, only so that they could study them closely, and he'd use the heck out of Hydra's training before he went all "I'm out!" on them.
This Hydra base, from what he'd discerned, was not the biggest there is. It was small, quite small, and it wasn't impossible to get out of there. But he'd wait, at least as long as his Goddess returned.
"Sub-Zero, you will undergo combat and shooting practice from today onwards." Sextus said, and Nova gave him a blank look—he was fully in his "I'm brainwashed, bitch! Don't suspect me!" persona—and it seemed to be working. wonderfully.

Sextus, on the other hand, tossed a suit to him. it was a skin-tight spandex suit. Nothing fancy, just a plain suit. Nova, however, didn't want to wear anything given by Hydra, so, He decided to show a bit of his 'powers'.
He observed the suit for a while, and then tossed it away, and called forth his Goddess' powers from within.
-Bzzt~ -Splash~
The slight buzz of electricity with water splashes danced in the back of his ear before something bright erupted from within him, and the suit materialized, the suit which Steven Grant's Moon Knight had. It emerged thread by thread, and before it could get into shape, Nova willed it to morph into the Hydra's suit.
Nova wasn't sure how, but there was this 'place' in his mind, where he had these 'slots' for saving his suits. Only four slots were filled. One, with Marc Spector's Moon Knight-like suit—which he liked to call the flashy suit. Second, with Steven Grant's Moon Knight-like suit—which he liked to call the less-flashy suit. Third, with his black businessmen suit, which he'd saved in the 'slots' just when he'd been teleported inside his apartment. And now, fourth, with the Hydra's spandex skin-tight black suit.
He quickly selected the 4th slot, and the threads combined, morphed, and entwined into the suit provided by Sextus.
Sextus Dickthunder whistled.
"Neat trick," he praised, eyeing him with a weird glint in his eyes as he licked his lips. And Nova bit back a cringe. Ugh, this bastard was definitely gay, wasn't he? Nova would swear if this bastard tried anything funny, he'd break his skull and then blow up the whole of Hydra.
As Nova was in his thoughts, Sextus attacked, launching a vicious kick at his chest.
The kick was too fast for Nova. And thus, it slammed into his chest with a deep thump. He staggered back over a few paces and clasped onto his chest, coughing.
That hurt. That seriously hurt. Wasn't he supposed to be durable and all-powerful now that he was in his Avatar suit? Why did it still hurt?
That's when realization dawned on Nova.
. . . he had forgotten that Anari was weakened at the moment. Too weakened. Since her strength was directly proportional to her Faith Points, she was weak. She'd said that her Faith Points were negligible. Of course, he would feel pain. They both were weak at the moment. Too weak.
"20 seconds of rest," Sextus said dully.
Nova needed to convert some people into Anari's religion. otherwise, he'll remain weak. And remaining weak inside the MCU was a death wish. But for that, he needed to get out of the Hydra base first. He wanted to slap himself for getting caught now. Even though Anari had told him that everything would be fine, he should've just run away. He was not strong enough to escape in that high-profiled way of his, which he was considering just a little while ago.
Now, he had to escape in that low-profiled way of his. The one he'd initially planned.
But he was skeptical now, was he even strong enough to escape with his low-profiled plan?
Fuck. He'd gotten arrogant, hadn't he? It'd just been (probably) two or three days since he'd arrived in the MCU, THE fucking Marvel Cinematic Universe, and he'd gotten arrogant.
He took in a deep breath, calmed down, and sighed.
He will . . . find some way.
For now, though, he needed to focus on the training so he won't get beaten to a pulp. After the 20 seconds rest period passed, Sextus moved in a flurry and battered a nasty kick at his face. This time, however, Nova ducked, moving into the attack. He jabbed on Sextus' dick; it didn't land though.
Sextus was too fast.
Nova was in doubt now. Sextus was a mutant or a mutate, wasn't he? Nova, however, didn't have time for such thoughts as his assailant elbowed him on his right shoulder.
And it fucking hurt. Not as much. But it still did. Nova didn't let it show on his 'blank' face though. He kept striking and getting beaten up. During which, he'd come to realize something.
His previous training meant jack shit in this world. If he couldn't even defeat some . . . agent of Hydra, how was he supposed to survive? Even if he were to exclude the bigger threats, he could still be killed. Easily. The training from his previous world was nothing; he was just a newbie here. He needed to pull his shit together. Fast. He understood now, why his Goddess wanted him to stay here and let them do as they pleased. In the end, Hydra was going to provide him with top-notch training and he was ready to take a bite of that hot pie.
So, deciding to increase his value in the eyes of Hydra's higher-ups so they'd provide even better training, he called forth his Goddess' powers.
Sure, he was in his Avatar suit, which was doing nothing but increasing his durability, strength, and some other physical aspects, but he hadn't shown his elemental powers yet.
Goddess of Storms, Lady of Love, and the High Seas, Anari. That's who his Goddess was.
He was going to use the 'Storms' part of her name. And what did storms hold?
Violent atmosphere disturbance, characterized by barometric pressure, cloud cover, precipitation, strong winds, and occasional . . .
Lightning and Thunder.
