43: I refuse
—
Peter’s eyes fluttered open, gazing at the ceiling without any emotion on his face. He blinked, standing up before he got in the bathroom and did his morning rituals. As the water poured down his well-toned body, his mind wandered off to the happenings of last night.
He’d gotten in his room, shut the door tight, and proceeded to click on the [Memory Fragment – Edward ??? (01)]. After much thought, he’d come to an impasse. The reason behind this was simple enough, if he wanted to progress, he needed to read the record sooner or later anyway, so he’d just bite the bullet.
He was feeling still the same as he was doing before. Like himself. The biggest fear he had about this whole [Memory Fragment] situation, was that he’d somehow not be himself anymore and would just be ‘different’.
That, in a sense, was death. And Peter knew that, so he wasn’t so keen on finding out the truth. Though he had done just that in the end, it didn’t matter as he still found himself in control of the body and not some ‘other’ being.
After showering, Peter came out of the bathroom, his mind still on what he experienced as ‘Edward’. It was like he was in the body, but he couldn’t control anything and was just a viewer. This was, in a sense, a fancy way of viewing memories.
Anyways, Peter had found nothing substantial after going through the memories.
Though he was curious about a few things.
Like, what was that pendant? Who was Edward’s mother, and who he was trying to search? Was it his mother? And who were the couple—Jacob and that redhead—and their daughter, Rose? How’d he met them? What was the Elysium? Gothlic? Why was everyone (technically) imprisoned inside Elysium?
But the most important matter that had some significance for Peter… how did Edward come to know of the Marvel world and everything else?
Peter sighed, and got out of his room after he was ready to go to school. He ate with May and made out with her for a while before going to school and spending his day as usual. Natasha was still in school, though by this point, Peter knew that he wasn’t her target; she was spying on someone else.
But who?
During the lunch break, Peter decided that it was probably time to tell Ned about the whole game thing and that he should probably get Ned to work on it too, and release it in a week or so. Before that, if possible.
“Hey, Ned,” Peter called out, and the chubby dude turned around to give him a look. “I’ve decided to let you in that secret.”
Ned’s eyes widened slightly before he started fidgeting excitedly.
“Tell me, tell me!”
“After school,” Peter joked, and his friend almost lost his cool. “Okay, okay, I’m just joking,” Peter said, taking out his phone.
Then, he opened up the latest build of [Temple Run] and gave it to Ned. Peter had mostly finished it, and only testing on different devices was left, after which, the remaining bugs or complaints would be fixed and finally, the game would be launched.
Ned looked at the phone’s screen in confusion for a while before he started playing the game, and after ten minutes or so—during which, he was absorbed in the gameplay—Ned looked up to stare at Peter in shock.
“You’re joking, right?”
“What?”
“You seriously made this?!”
“Of course, why would I lie to you?”
“This is so cool!” Ned was beaming.
“Thanks, I guess,” Peter said as he ate his last bit of food and got his phone back. “I’m going to launch it soon; I just hope that I’ll earn enough with this to start a company and go from there.”
“Can I be in?” Ned asked.
“Of course,” Peter said like it was the most obvious thing ever. He wasn’t a fool to let Ned slide away, out of his grasp. “You’ll be one of the big bosses.”
“Seriously?”
“Of course,” Peter affirmed. There was a simple reason Peter needed Ned as one of the bosses of the company. Peter couldn’t be there to run the company all the time, so it was necessary that someone would do that for him. That’s exactly why Ned was the perfect person for this job. Sure, he still needed to learn a lot of things if he wanted to run a company, but being the genius he Is, Ned would figure it out.
All while Peter would be busy with supernatural shit.
After he was done with Ned, Peter gave his chubby fellow the latest build and told him to test the game, and have his other friends—if he has—and girlfriend check too. Peter gave one to Gwen, one to Michele, one to Liz, and one to Mary Jane. They’d help him a lot if they tested the game out for him.
After school time ended, Peter got busy with his magic training with Magik. He flirted with her a bit, to which she didn’t respond but only glared at his attempts. Anyways, when he was done with training, it was already nearing evening. So, Peter teleported home and started working on this other thing he had in mind.
Peter wanted to be an influencer on YouTube and Twitter—both platforms were already launched, and he wanted to be a big figure in them. And since they were relatively new, Peter wanted to buy some shares in them too, eventually.
But there was a little problem. Peter wanted to be an influencer as Spider-Man, and not as Peter Parker—though he’d make accounts as Peter Parker too. But for that, Peter needed an encrypted platform so that his information—mainly location, and identity—wouldn’t be revealed. It wasn’t so difficult to find that type of information from the companies if you had certain connections, after all.
And Peter certainly didn’t want S.H.I.E.L.D. poking their head in his life.
Anyways, that stuff was for later, as the most immediate thing Peter wanted to focus on was hand-to-hand combat—more so when he was kind of adept in Mystic Arts, though not nearly as the Ancient One or Magik, he was quite powerful given his intelligence and body.
That’s exactly why Peter requested Ancient One to open a portal to Symkaria since he’s never been there. And she’d given him a paper enchanted with the spell, like always.
But he wasn’t planning on visiting Silver this soon, he would do so after launching his game.

Tony Stark abruptly woke up, sucking gulps of air as he felt a tube in his nose. Memories of what happened hit him like a train, the bomb, the surgery he went through, the screams he let out. Everything flashed in front of his eyes. Tony was on a cot in a cave. He sipped out the tube that was in his nose. It came out, he couldn’t help but think how sickeningly long it was.
Tony’s eyes wandered around before stopping on a cup on the table beside him. He reached to pick it up but failed. Tony groaned in annoyance, looking around before his gaze stopped on a figure he just noticed.
A man was shaving.
Tony tried to reach farther and get a proper look around, but the wires attached to his chest stole his attention away and he stopped, feeling as if they were about to be ripped out of him.
“I wouldn’t do that If I were you.” The man said. Tony looked at the wires, and then at the battery they were connecting to.
Panicked, he ripped off the bandages over his chest to see why the wires were going in, only to stop as an electromagnet came into his view. Now, strictly speaking, the electromagnet wasn’t what made him panic, but the fact that it was inside his chest.
***
Tony stared at the small fire in front of him before his gaze came wandering back to the mirror in his hands, and through the mirror, onto his chest where the electromagnet is stuck to.
Tony looked up at the man, Yinsen, who was making food.
“What the hell did you do to me?” Tony asked, glaring at the man.
“What I did?” Yinsen questioned back as he turned to give him a look. “What I did is to save your life. I removed all the shrapnel I could, but there's a lot left, and it's headed into your atrial septum. Here, want to see?” Yinsen pulled out a bottle of shrapnel. “I have a souvenir. Take a look.” He tossed the bottle to Tony, who promptly caught it before looking it over.
“I've seen many wounds like that in my village,” Yinsen explained. “We call them the walking dead because it takes about a week for the barbs to reach the vital organs.”
“What is this?” Tony questioned, motioning at his chest.
“That is an electromagnet, hooked up to a car battery, and it's keeping the shrapnel from entering your heart,” Yinsen spoke while Tony watched around. They had a little conversation about Yinsen having met Tony before.
“Where are we?” Tony asked. He didn’t know where he was at all, and that had him quite scared, more so when there was shrapnel near his heart, and a car battery—a fucking car battery!—was keeping him alive.
That’s when loud voices sounded from the other side of the metal door before it flung open.
“Come on, stand up. Stand up! Just do as I do. Come on, put your hands up.” Yinsen instructed as men walked in with guns in hand—guns that Tony Stark recognized at a glance. Why wouldn’t he? He was the one who made them!
“Those are my guns. How did they get my guns?”
Tony already had a wake-up call due to the bomb that dropped near him, with the [Stark Industries] written on it, and this only made it worse, making him realize that his tech—his tech!—was being used for wrong.
“Do you understand me? Do as I do.” Yinsen said in a whisper as one of the men started speaking, probably Arabic, as far as Tony could decipher.
Yinsen started translating for him since Tony couldn’t speak, or understand Arabic.
“Welcome, Tony Stark, the most famous mass murderer in the history of America,” Yinsen said.
The man spoke again.
“He is honored. He wants you to build the missile. The Jericho missile that you demonstrated.” Yinsen said.
The man handed Yinsen a picture of the Jericho missile. Yinsen looked at it, once, before showing it to Tony.
“This one.”
Tony already knew that his tech was being used for bad, and he had—quite literally—woken up. He wouldn’t let them use his tech for something like this. This is not the reason Tony was making what he was!
“I refuse,” Tony sneered.
Though that’s one of the mistakes he made that day as the men weren’t really happy with the reply. Tony was tortured, and put in water to drown, Tony wanted to kill them, but he couldn’t, he was so weak.
What was all his wealth worth?
What was anything worth?
If he couldn’t even protect himself when needed, what was the reason behind his so-called high status in life?
Tony had another wake-up call, and he started seeing the world in another light. Started seeing himself, in another light. That’s exactly why he started making the ‘missile’. Which was, in fact, a suit he was making in secret, along with Yinsen, so he could obliterate these terrorists.
Tony was going to atone for the pain his weapons caused. One way or another. But for that to happen, he needed to escape this place. And that’s exactly why he needed this suit.
No one but some individuals, including Peter and the Ancient One, knew that Iron Man was just born. Though the world still had to wait a bit to see their new hero in making.
