"Gods damned... what happened here?" Evatide murmured as she cautiously approached the butchered corpse of the dragon. And to think she had it rough coming through the teleportation gate. The dragon... or whatever was left of it, would like to disagree.
Her boss 'convinced' her to take a little stroll here to pick up the dragon's soul, which had refused to return back to the natural cycle.
Normally, souls that refuse to return back to the Trinity are simply left there, aimlessly wandering their deathbeds for eternity. Occasionally, a priest will come along and dispatch them, finally returning them back to the Trinity.
However, this time, the Trinity was adamant about the dragon's soul being returned effective immediately. Apparently, it wasn't a good idea to let a ghost dragon roam some extra-dimensional world for eternity.
Evatide called bullshit on that one. It wasn't harming anyone! Besides, this was some world separate from theirs, so it's not like anyone would die.
|But alas, what could she do against the orders of her superiors? No way would she want to extend her servitude for another decade. 7
decades was long enough already.
What seemed to be the remains of a dragon lay there motionless, in a field of dead brown grass and wilted flowers the size of towers.
The remains were missing many components of its body. The most glaring would be a massive chunk of its sides, arms and legs, most of its bones, scales, and claws, and half of its head. A glowing green soul hovered near what seemed like its head. It simply presented itself. Usually, souls that refused to pass on would hide deep within their mortal shells, determined to not be taken.
"There is no way it is this easy." Hades said.
"I'm afraid you are right." Evatide groaned as the moment she got close enough, a system prompt appeared. The soul swirled as a massive green vortex formed around it, preventing Evatide from getting any closer.
The ethereal form of a majestic dragon in a pristine emerald hue appeared where its corpse lay, fangs bared at her. it was semi-transparent, which was a good sign for her. It meant that it was at least somewhat willing to return back into the natural cycle, and the final fight would be much easier.
