I woke up to confusion in strange place. I am sure I was one with death. How come I am still breathing? What was my name? How did I die?
Still lying on the bed, my head turns to survey the surrounding darkness. A poorly lit room not by lamb but by light leaking from the openings of a loose door.
I rise up. Soreness accompanies every motion, proof of sleeping on a hard surface. Leaving the relative cosiness of the rough blanket, My body is exposed to the cold air. The floor creaks with every step as my touch guides me. The wall is cold.
Drawing imaginary boundaries in my head, I charted out the non-rectangular shape of this place. It’s not a room, possibly a hut. A windowless hut that gives me barely a clue of day or night.
In my blind tread, my touch discovers a few pieces of furniture. A wooden stool stands beside a small round table that has only a half candle. On the opposite side of my bed is a wardrobe. Wooden, I believe. It is taller than me.
I decided to leave for outside. It takes me a few moments to understand and unlock the door.
I was showered with light. On this moonless night, only the stars reign above. I bring my hands to eye level. These young, thin, bruised, and small limbs are not mine.
Paying no heed to the assaulting coldness, I head back inside. Using the brightness of nature, I search the wardrobe for anything reflective.
The effort was futile, but on my way back, I found more things I had missed, namely, a couple of earthen pots, small bowls, and chopsticks on the floor hidden in the corner. The owner of this hut must have wanted to not step on them in the dark.
Hearing the stomach growls, I go into the tree lines. I am not confident there is easy food nearby. Thus, instead of searching for fruit trees, shrooms, or wild vegetables, I decided not to. Moreover, I don’t know if there is a town, village, or other households around. Therefore, the chance of buying food is slim. Furthermore, I am unsure if there is money in this tattered home. My objective would be a stream or lake, it will serve as both a mirror and cushion for my hunger.
Despite the low temperature, I am sweating. The short walk was particularly laborious for the body. I could swear my life flickers with every step. Just how long had it been since this body’s last meal?
My sense finally picks up the smell of water. I let my feet carry me to the source.
Crawling to the very edge of the lake, I lower my mouth to the water. The sip of cold liquid in my mouth tastes like dirt. I would love to drink from further away. Water out there would be much further from the sediment and clearer. However, venturing into the body of liquid would make me wet and reduce my temperature greatly. In this starving stage, I prefer not to get this body any colder.

This is rough.
My last life is the last and sole heir of my clan. As such, mother was extremely strict in my upbringing. I was to live away from my clan estate, to earn my own money, and to take care of my own needs from a very young age. My household only covers the tuition fee, and my assigned nanny was only there to ensure I am not dead per my mother’s order. Even so, my former childhood was never this rough. That was taking in account the several occasions I ran into wolves during my wood selling trips. Born strong, I was fully capable of labour works and defending myself, and I had never allowed myself to be this low.
The calm surface depicts the face of a girl that had been driven into the ground. She is weak, thin, and destined to die in a few more days. I want to wash my new face but refrain from doing so. I should not get wet, not now.
Spending an hour under the open sky, I was lucky to find a bit of edible herbs. Returning to the hut, I found flints and dried pieces of wood. These would start a fire.
As the hut has no kitchen or fire place, I search outside and find the place that the previous owner of this body used to cook. Well, it makes sense to not have a fireplace inside the hut, because there is no other opening beside the door. Gathering branches, I begin making the first meal in this life.
With a belly full of low nutrition food, my time is dedicated to searching for more food and exploring the surroundings. When lunch comes knocking, I have already secured a more lavish meal with bird meat, shrooms and more vegetables. While the food is being boiled in the earthen pot, my mind recaps the last hours.
During my hunt, I noticed that, in spite of my advanced perception which are likely inheritances from my last life, this body is incapable of keeping up with my commands. I saw those birds moving at such a slow pace, but seeing it and having these fingers around them are two different issues. I will have to train this body if I want to fully utilise my power.
Another thing is the settlement to the east, it is either a sizable town or a full fledged city. Whatever the case, it is time to earn some money and have a bit of cultural lessons.
