Yin Yu stretches her arms, yawning. While jogging around the estate, she recalls her winning streak last night against the masters and giggles. Yin Yu was promised a reward. She doesn’t know what she will get, but even without it, she had her fun.
Upon seeing Li Gao and Shi Xin together, Yin Yu secretly stalks them. This is wild. Both are about the same age but their cultivation can’t be more different. She hasn’t seen them staying in the distance of ten steps let alone walking side by side. Yin Yu’s nose smells something fishy, and she will find out.
Tailing after them, she soon discovers more of their accomplices, Dong Yun An and Fang Xin.
What is with this assembly?
“Well, let’s start.” Yun An announced.
Yin Yu watched as the three boys formed a team to spar with Yun An. Without the use of qi, Yun An is perfect as the big bad for them to practice team combat. From her observance, Yin Yu charted out their formation. Shi Xin is the attractor. Li Gao plays the attacker. Fang Xin supports and disrupts. Based on their martial arts and fighting style, it fits perfectly.
Shi Xin is the weakest. His attack is neglectable but his experience allows him to dissect the enemy attack and avoid fatal assault. He is not talented enough to be creative but his text-book knowledge means he will fulfil his role well.
Li Gao’s way of sword tilts toward offence more than defence. His speed of Lightning slash and Invisible sword provides means to intercept the enemy from a range. He can attack almost anywhere and does critical damage with his trained techniques.
Fang Xin can hold his own, and help Shi Xin if things turn dangerous. When the opponent is distracted by him and Shi Xin, Li Gao can score a good hit. When attention goes to Li Gao, Shi Xin would try to attract the aggro from Li Gao. As those two are playing their part, Fang Xin would sneak behind and deliver a Heavy qi blast. That technique will disable the enemy for Li Gao to finish.
That would likely be how things play out. This may not work against human foe every time, but against non-human... Hmm. Isn’t Yun An playing the part of the beast? Without qi, she is overly powerful, resilient, and not at all stupid.
That’s aside. How did they get here? How did she recruit these three? And what is she planning to do with them?
“Let’s rest for today.”
The three agree. There is training later in the day. Can’t get themselves tired this early.
“I have to give it to you. After receiving my beating one day, you immediately agreed to train with me. If you could beat me so easily, why didn’t you do so from the start?”
“I have the latent power, but my body can’t make full use of it without destroying itself. I definitely didn’t intend to win against you with internal organs injuries, reopens of previous wounds, and bone fractures in my arms and ribs.”
“Wait. Arm fracture. You caused that on yourself?”
“You think I can shatter the ring without repercussion? If I could do such a punch without harming my hand, you wouldn’t have the chance to show off your cultivation.”
“Darn it! I shouldn’t have given up then.”

“If you haven’t surrendered, I would give it to you with my left hand. That would turn my cracked bone into an official fracture though.”
“The more I hear about it. The more nut you are to me.”
“Junior master. I want to ask. Why did you return to practice so soon?”
“I want to know that too.”
“As you know, Fang Xin, I asked you to use Heavy qi blast on my shoulders. It’s qi training, not physical training, so it was relatively safe.”
“You are nut. You know that?”
“I agree with Fang Xin. It’s risky.”
“I have the same thought. Why didn’t you wait till your body was fully recuperated? Patience is a virtue.”
“When you know your body as well as me, it’s easy to find idle parts that you can put to work.”
“And you asked me because it helped me practise Heavy qi blast and gave you a workout. Shouldn’t you try to find a herb or a pill? Ah. The ones that can give you access to those are either senior master Hua Cheng or the senior grandmaster.”
“Indeed. I don’t want to owe them too much.”
“And your senior, Tian Zhong, wouldn't help you with this kind of training. Hence, you offered me a deal.”
“Junior master. I have another question. Are you still planning to go to Gudu?”
“I am considering passing on that. My wounds can’t seem to heal fast enough.”
“What? How could you? Ah wait. Maybe that's better. If you don’t want to go, let me know, ok? I can make use of that opportunity.”
“Yin Yu. What are you doing?”
It’s junior master Xu Fu. Crap! I was too preoccupied.
“Junior master. I was counting leaves.”
He walked past me. Phew.
“Dong Yun An.”
“Senior.”
“We, disciples, greet the junior master.” The three lowered their heads in unison.
“How’s your injuries?”
“Yun An thanks the senior. They have gotten better.”
“Good!” He smiled deviously. “Early tomorrow, go wait at the courtyard. There is one thing you need to do.”
