The sword strike pulverised the dragon. 

That was a lot of guessing. Afterall, she hasn’t faced one before. She could only hypothesise that the dragon would not be stronger than the damage it could deliver. Working on that basis, she only had to put in more strength than that to be on the safe side of the gamble.
