Since the apocalypse began, trivialities that everyone normally ignored had become a source of happiness for them. For example, in the current situation, just being able to fill their mouths with rice was a matter worth celebrating.
Jun Zishu’s group of eight had thoroughly monopolized the post office. After overturning the third warehouse, they ransacked the second and first warehouses as well.
However, the food they found could barely last them a week.
A week was already their limit. Although they found plenty of snacks, these snacks were not filling for the stomach. Hence, everyone spent most of their meals only partially satiated.
Just like that, the group spent the week hunkered down in the warehouses.
Every day felt incredibly long for them. Without anything to keep their minds occupied, time seemed to stretch on infinitely for everyone.
Jun Zishu and Ren Nanying probably fared the best against this weeklong boredom out of the group of eight. Jun Zishu originally had a calm and steady nature, so boredom wasn’t a problem for her. Not to mention, whenever she was truly bored, she could simply pretend to fall asleep and watch a movie together with Little Fairy.
In Ren Nanying’s case, she wouldn’t feel bored so long as she had Jun Zishu by her side. She could spend an entire afternoon playing with Jun Zishu’s fingers if the others weren’t constantly condemning her actions.
As for the others, they weren’t as fortunate as Jun Zishu and Ren Nanying.
Lin Su got so bored that she had begun reviewing the English terms in her head, while Xu Qiu sat beside her and came up with exercises for her to do.
When Liu Manman saw this, she asked, “How do you know if Susu’s answers are correct, Qiu’er?”
“Simple. I don’t know the answers,” Xu Qiu frankly said.
“Why are you listening to her so attentively, then?”
“The least I could do is act like I understand. In reality, though, I have no idea what she is talking about,” Xu Qiu said. Her knowledge of the English language was subpar at best. While it wasn’t too terrible, she definitely couldn’t compete with Lin Su.
Unlike Xu Qiu, Jun Zishu did know whether Lin Su’s answers were correct or not. Even so, she couldn’t reveal her knowledge. The original owner was only average when it came to studying, and Jun Zishu wasn’t about to break character for such a trivial reason.
Liu Manman, Chen Beimo, and Jiang Mubai spent most of the week playing landlord. The cards came from a parcel Chen Beimo opened. The cards were also custom-made, and they looked rather beautiful and refined.
As for Liu Yingtong, she worked as Liu Manman’s military advisor and offered suggestions from the side.
…
Unfortunately, the group’s comfort was only temporary. When their rations ran out, they had no choice but to set out again and head to the next place they had previously discussed.
“There are many restaurants there. We’ll head for the shop selling chicken rice first since that shop’s the biggest.”
The campus’s chicken rice shop didn’t sell only chicken. It also sold fried chicken, burgers, fries, etc. It was the biggest shop on the restaurant street. So, there should be plenty of supplies inside. The extra space would also give them a more comfortable time living inside.
Before setting out, Jun Zishu inspected her mental map and saw some red dots located over at the restaurant street. However, aside from red dots, some blue dots were also present.
Although many people on campus had turned into zombies, quite a few people were still alive.
These people were scattered all over the campus. The Medical Building that Jun Zishu’s group had passed by several times had at least several dozen people hiding within it. Even though this number paled compared to the number of living people who used to occupy it, it was still great that there were people alive inside.
After leaving the post office, Jun Zishu’s group ran for the chicken rice shop as quickly as possible. Unlike before, Liu Manman ran a little quicker this time. This was because motivation filled her when she thought of finding more food.
One side of the chicken rice shop’s entrance was opened. When the group arrived, they promptly ran inside and closed the door.
“Aren’t you going to lock the door?” Liu Manman asked as she looked at Ren Nanying, who had entered last and was the one to close the door.
“Do you have the key?”
“…No.”
“That settles it, then.”
They didn’t have too much time to communicate. After this brief exchange, they hurriedly used a nearby table to block the entrance.
Fortunately, the table wasn’t bolted to the floor. Although the large table was heavy, they managed to move it over to the entrance in no time at all.
The table was very wide, and it covered most of the glass doors when propped up on its side.
After blocking the entrance with the table, everyone quickly crouched down and hid their figures behind the table. Although they ran very quickly just now, there was still a horde of zombies persistently chasing after them.
A few seconds later, everyone could feel a ramming force coming from the table. Then, the numbing sounds of zombies banging and scratching against the glass doors began echoing throughout the shop.
Fortunately, everyone had their backs pressed against the table, so the zombies did not manage to force their way through the doors. However, they also made sure not to use too much force. After all, if the zombies dispersed, and they were still pushing against the table, they might very well push their way out of the shop.
Jun Zishu did not partake in the defense activities. Instead, she took out her Chanel perfume and sprayed it at everyone. Then, once the zombies outside failed to smell the scent of living people, the frequency at which they hit the doors gradually reduced.
Noticing this, the others let go of the breaths they subconsciously held and sighed in relief. When they inhaled immediately afterward, though, their noses were assaulted by an incredibly pungent scent.
“P-Poison…”
Chen Beimo hurriedly covered his nose, his expression making it seem like he was suffocating.
Everyone else didn’t fare any better, either. Some of them were even dry heaving.
When sprayed in tiny amounts, perfume would smell pleasant to the nose. However, when sprayed excessively, the resulting smell could probably send someone to the afterlife.
After the zombies outside thoroughly stopped attacking the door, everyone promptly ran for the kitchen in the back and began filling their lungs with fresh air.
Two zombies stood inside the kitchen. Both of them were in uniform, so they should be the chicken rice shop’s staff.
Upon hearing the noise, the two zombies stiffly turned their heads toward Jun Zishu and the others. The zombies moved as if they were in a slow-motion film, and Jun Zishu and the others could even hear the sound of bones creaking as the zombies turned their heads.
“Why aren’t they pouncing at us?” Xu Qiu asked in a small voice.
“It’s probably because of the thick perfume covering us,” Lin Su answered.
Currently, their bodies smelled as if they had just been smoked with perfume. They were essentially moving sources of incense. So, it wasn’t exactly strange that the zombies had difficulty determining whether they were living humans or not.
Immediately, Jun Zishu and Ren Nanying stepped forward, each of them taking care of a zombie. Then, they tossed the zombies out of the kitchen, and everyone either sat or stood in the kitchen to catch their breath.
“There doesn’t seem to be anything left to eat,” Lin Su said, sighing after walking around the kitchen.
It was now the 18th day. The electricity supply had already stopped for many days. Aside from some non-perishable items, everything else in the kitchen was already rotting and crawling with worms.
“Water…is also gone…” Lin Su said after turning on the faucet and discovering this despairing fact.
“No way…”
“It’s really gone.”
“How are we supposed to cook, then?”
Although they had rice, noodles, and gas in the kitchen, none of these things mattered if they didn’t have water.
With their last hope of surviving the apocalypse gone, everyone huddled together, and nobody said a word.
At this time, Jun Zishu stood up and shifted her attention to the locked warehouse. Then, she kicked the iron door, causing it to shake and rattle.
Ren Nanying realized what Jun Zishu was up to, so she got up and helped her kick the door as well.
Those from the Athletics Department were certainly built differently. After just three kicks, Ren Nanying had kicked open the iron door, exposing the small warehouse’s interior in front of everyone.
The warehouse was dark, and there was a small stockpile of goods. Once the door was opened, Jun Zishu turned on her phone’s flashlight to inspect the warehouse’s interior.
Although power had been out for many days now, Jun Zishu’s phone had long battery life. Meanwhile, other than the times she needed a flashlight, she had kept her phone powered down these past few days. So, her phone still had some battery life left.
“There are some carbonated drinks inside, so water isn’t too big a problem, but food…”
There was nothing to eat inside the warehouse.
Fortunately, they still had something to drink, so it wasn’t the end of the road for them.
However, after relying on sweet, carbonated drinks to fill their stomachs for an entire day, everyone woke up in low spirits the next day.
To avoid expending their body’s energy, they lied down and kept their eyes closed most of the time. The kitchen was also dimly lit, so everyone’s sanity began to grow muddy as well.
Jun Zishu knew that they couldn’t continue like this, so she said, “Everyone, get ready. We’re moving again at noon.”
Carbonated drinks here couldn’t provide their bodies with the energy they needed. If they continued staying here, they’d only be moving closer and closer to death.
“Where are we going?”
“The third cafeteria.”
“What about the drinks here?”
“Leave them.”
They’d have to expend a lot of energy to transport enough drinks to supply eight people for any significant amount of time. It’d be unwise to increase their energy consumption in their current situation.
Jun Zishu and the others had inspected the windows in the shop, and every window here was positioned at a very high position. Not only would they need to go through a lot of trouble to reach the windows, but they’d also risk falling and injuring themselves on their way out.
Hence, they couldn’t exit the shop through the windows. They’d have to do so through the front entrance if they wanted to leave.
The two boys carefully moved the table that was blocked the entrance away. Then, they saw the view outside through the glass doors.
“Do you guys hear something?” Liu Manman asked, her ears picking up on a noise. However, she couldn’t tell what was causing this noise.
[Host, there’s an airplane flying in this direction!]
When Jun Zishu heard this, her eyes brightened, and the corners of her mouth curled up.
“I think it’s the sound of an airplane!” Xu Qiu exclaimed softly.
Everyone promptly held their breaths and focused on the noise upon hearing Xu Qiu’s words.
The noise grew louder as time passed, and it shook everyone’s hearts.
A moment later, numerous parachutes appeared in the sky, each one carrying a fully-armed soldier.
The scent of the soldiers quickly attracted the zombies. However, before the zombies could even get close, they were shot dead by a bullet.

Zombies died by the dozens and hundreds every passing minute. Even so, they still fearlessly charged at the soldiers. Then, after clearing out the last of the zombies charging at them, the soldiers promptly split into groups and searched every corner of the campus.
On the 19th day of the apocalypse, rescue finally arrived.
Liu Manman grew so excited by this situation that she hugged Liu Yingtong until the future forensic scientist nearly suffocated.
Meanwhile, Jun Zishu and Ren Nanying held hands and gazed at the blue sky.
