His tasks ended like that.

As the day a close, he found himself reflecting upon the tasks that has been laid before him. He had expected them to be challenging, to test his mettle and push him to the brink of his abilities. But he never imagined just how difficult they would truly be.

He was going against the protagonist, after all.

For one thing, mistreating the protagonist was simply out of the question. He was aware that, as an employee dispatched by the Ninth Heaven to "torment" the protagonist, any misdeeds would come back to haunt him, regardless of his original intentions.

The consequences of his actions would naturally fall upon him.

The rules in the dimension couldn't be controlled by the Ninth Heaven. They existed on their own right, unyielding and unchanging. The Ninth Heaven may have held sway over many things, but the inner workings of the dimensions were beyond their grasp.

The only way to truly hold power over the dimension was to become the protagonist. So, those who didn't receive the gold halo, like the poor cannon fodders and mob characters, they could only follow their missions.

The dimensions were ruthless towards those who broke its rules. The Ninth Heaven officials were cautious in their dealings within the natives of the realm, understanding that a single error could trigger the downfall of numerous other worlds. The officials were well aware if the consequences of their actions, and took great care not to upset the delicate balance of the dimensions.

This is what happened to Jin Wei. The Ninth Heaven was powerless to alter his destiny in his original world, so they chose the drastic measure of obscuring his very existence. This prevented him from the possibility of reincarnation and effectively severed his string of fate. He could still travel through the dimensions, but he would no longer be able to form a connection.

But it was a bit confusing that some Ninth Heaven Official would still study about Jin Wei's situation.

As a soul born from a dimension, Jin Wei could not simply be erased, thus only to have his existence "concealed". His origin, the dimension he was born, wasn't totally obliterated but concealed so that it would be negligible. That's why, despite being a lost cause, Jin Wei is still affected by the imposed penalty for souls that violated the laws.

He could still receive the soul extermination — the permanent end of their existence.

It is not the Ninth Heaven punishing the souls, but the world dimensions. After all, the Ninth Heaven isn't absolute and just governing the messy rules of The Universe. And since the dimensions were born from The Universe, they have the power to decide annihilation.

Anyway, Jin Wei is happy that he is almost done with his tasks.

The protagonist helped him finish his tasks, filling him with gratitude. Though his initial skirmishes may have been for naught, he was able to land a few blows, scoring a number of points. Despite facing blocked attacks and injuries in later rounds, he still managed to rack up a decent amount of points, completing the menial tasks.

Who knows how grateful he is now that he no longer needed to "punch, kick, and slap" the protagonist. Only Jin Wei knows that scary feeling of having the entire world watching his actions, observing him as if to see if he had gone overboard.

Thankfully, he is done.

He's done with the protagonist.

Now, it's time to deal with his "character" setting.

Upon arriving in this world, Jin Wei discovered that he had taken the role of a family man. Though his newfound family was quite large, consisting of six younger siblings, which were no less precious to him. Tragically, their parents had fallen victim to a bandit attack mere weeks prior to Jin Wei's arrival, leaving him with the responsibility of caring for his siblings.

The family is from a smaller village away from the town where the parents sell trades to the merchants. The town is big and has quite a number of populations despite not being the capital of the country. His parents have been dealing in this town for a considerable time, building a well-respected name for themselves in the process.

It's just that they were independent merchants and quite poor as compared to those in a company.

The family is composed of the eldest brother, who is just ten years old, and six younger children ranging in age from five to one. The original owner of the body is diligent and resourceful, so fortunately, the siblings weren't starved. However, their pallid complexion and skinny bodies indicate that they are not receiving enough nourishment.

Jin Wei is a simple person. He is just too indolent to deal with the extra effort. If he were the only person in this world, he could simply survive by doing guild tasks or assisting others in earning money. If that is not an option, he might just sneak some food or cultivate some plants himself.

He can see luxury in simple things and has no worries.

As someone who had lived many lifetimes and reached the pinnacle of life, everything is just mere material possessions.

But this time, the original character owned a family, so he could not just let things be bygones.

Even though they are not related, Jin Wei has genuine feelings for family. He took an oath not to allow anybody under his care to suffer, especially those who shared the same blood as his. Of course, it should be taken into consideration that the other party has no hostile intention towards him,

Well, it is quite reasonable. For a dimensionless person, a family is a treasure.

Thus, he adjusted his goals from being frugal to becoming wealthy and powerful. He planned a strategy to collect riches in order to buy a comfortable home for his family.

Jin Wei's aim was not just to accumulate fortune and buy a large house, but also to ensure the well-being of his siblings, including proper nutrition. He also desired to provide his siblings the best education possible so they could become more respectable and have a better future.

But for Jin Wei to fulfill his ambitions, he would need a sizable sum of money, which he did not yet have. He realized that he needed to leave this town in order to obtain these funds. But, before embarking on his adventure, he had to finish the tasks allocated to him by the system.

Jin Wei's only way to achieve the lavish lifestyle he desired was to complete his heavenly tasks.

Jin Wei entertained the notion of wrapping up his current world and venturing forth into another realm with a fresh set of duties. Yet, he pondered if such a move wouldn't be a waste of his time, considering that the tasks bestowed upon many characters, be it minor or supporting, frequently entailed them surrendering their lives or destinies to secure a prosperous future for the protagonist.

Bound by a lack of free will, their actions are tightly controlled so as not to alter the plot. Their missions demand them to endure a life devoid of fulfillment and instead be subjected to suffering until the tasks are completed. Tragically, many simply meet their end before being reincarnated into another world.

Whereas most universes are incredibly complicated, this one is no different. However, because Jin Wei's character is categorized as a "mob," he is permitted to live a reasonably normal life. He is somewhat "negligible" in a sense.

Despite their relative regularity, mob characters are not immune to tragedy. Jin Wei recalls one especially disturbing world, a zombie-infested universe where the mob characters were consumed by the undead horde even without the involvement of the storyline.

As a response, Jin Wei chose to treasure the limited time he had with his loved ones rather than rushing from world to world.

Furthermore, if he were to move to another world, he would be faced with a fresh set of missions and there would be no respite. As a mob character, new restrictions would be imposed upon him once he completes the trial phase. Because he was unsure what tasks he would be assigned to in the next world, he needed to appreciate this time and wallow in bliss.

Well, there's nothing wrong with just spending life contented and happy, right?

Jin Wei smiled as he thought about his strategy. It's hard to go back to a life of poverty after you've tasted luxury. Jin Wei was determined to get wealthy and promised to leave no stone untouched. Despite being only a mortal, his understanding of the laws of this world was adequate to overcome any challenges that may emerge.

If it weren't for the restrictions, Jin Wei was confident that he could conquer even the strongest individual in this world.

A whistle can be heard echoing in an alley. The one playing the tune must be in a good mood. Laurem waited for the figure to turn around the corner before opening his eyes. His face is a bit flushed while his tongue slowly licked his lips.

The taste is indeed very sweet.
