Midnight approached without banners.
The dark sky was littered with twinkling stars. Some seemed more enthusiastic than others, though. A thin outline of the moon must have come and gone for Kai didn’t find it anywhere. There was a salty light breeze over the hill, dancing its way through the Red Keep’s lofty towers.
After killing Grim, and storing the newly gained Item, the Pokeball, Kai hadn’t lingered long in the sewers. Though a part of him wanted to turn on his Koffing’s blood essence and took long whiffs of the surrounding stench. But time was of the essence. So Kai had decided to act according to his plan.
I hope I am not late, Kai thought. Those bastards delayed me. Kai cursed them, but there was a smile on his face too. His unexpected encounter had given Kai many gifts. Foremost, it was the blood essence of a magical beast. Then there was the Item. Last, and the most crucial, was the cruel truth about his Luck.
I thought my Luck is already worse, Kai reflected, frowning. But I have a feeling that with every next mission, the random encounters will keep on increasing. This was a reasonable thought, but not the one Kai would have wanted to have. If anything, it made his resolve to achieve the Title of Novice Collector stronger than anything else.
“Haha!” Kai suddenly laughed, remembering something. “Speaking of Titles, the Title Murderer has returned.” Murderer Title could be initiated by killing any Contestant, and to make it equippable, one needed to kill 10 Contestants in a single random world. Kai had to let go of achieving the Title in this mission, though. There is no way I would face so many Order’s Contestants, Kai had thought bitterly. Moreover, I don’t have any team members to kill either.
Kai stealthily slithered in the darkness. There was scarcely any foul smell about him anymore. It would have been a blunder to present himself to the queen with the filth of sewers on him. So Kai had taken some time to clean himself up in the nearest stable. There was plenty of water there, and none of the staff had anything special about them to notice Kai. With his new set of clothes and watery hair, Kai looked like a freshly plucked white summer flower.
But the most dangerous task was still waiting for him.
Maegor’s Holdfast! Kai eyed the colossal structure from afar. It was a castle-within-a-castle. A massive square fortress inside the heart of Red Keep, and the strongest place too. 12 ft thick walls covered the entire holdfast, and a dry moat lined with thorny iron pikes surrounded it. The only way to access the holdfast is through the drawbridge. But that’s where the problem lies.
It said many knights patrol the drawbridge, Kai thought, recalling the scrolls given by Jon Arryn. I must cross it. The royal apartments lay behind those walls. Initially, Kai had planned to climb the walls using his sabers. There was a high risk of being spotted by the sentries, but there was no other choice, either. Until he met Koffing, that is.
Now he had a better way. The risk was still there, but Kai had confidence in not making any noise. That way was… Skill!
Kai slithered, his back always pressed against the wall, always avoiding the open areas. He went to the wall opposite the one having a drawbridge. But to reach the other side, Kai still had to cross the sea of iron pikes, and he must do everything within 30 seconds or fewer.
“Come forth,” Kai grunted, “Koffing!”
His face contorted as if it was water boiling at high heat, with scalding hot bubbles bursting out. His entire body became red hot, and the ethereal steam blurred him from the unknown eyes if any. The skull and cross-bones tattoo returned to his chin, along with two long, thick fangs. The geyser-like protrusions popped out all over his face, releasing a faint trail of mustard-colored gas.
Kai’s pure, round hazel eyes widened and became vacant.
A sudden gust of wind tried to sway Kai’s wet hair. It was then that his feet left the ground.
He was levitating!

There were two crucial things Kai had analyzed from the Stats.
First, he could only control the lightness, not heaviness. Vague, but Kai knew ignoring this little thing can be fatal. Second, it was levitation and not flying, even though the Stats mentioned he could move in any direction. There was something there Kai could not see at one glance. Still, it was better to note.
Kai let himself get accustomed to the feeling by making himself rise and sink back. Magnificent! Kai thought, praising the Skill, and then stirred himself for the holdfast. The speed was only as an average person running, but it was silent.
Kai took a breath of relief as he crossed the iron pikes and peeped over the wall’s edge for any patrolling guards. A few were walking on the wall, but none were looking toward him. It was now or never. Kai couldn’t afford to wait and lose time.
Another gust of wind hit the wall before crawling up and going over.
Now! Kai followed it, his stomach tightening with every passing second. Before he knew it, Kai was on the other side, landing as silent as he had risen. Dash! The moment his feet touch the ground, Kai bolted for the shade of holdfast. Only then did Kai let the knots in his stomach untangle themselves.
Phew! Kai kicked out a deep breath and slumped down, his back sweating against the cool stones. 50 MP, Kai noticed his blue MP bar. Even after the one-point increment in his Intelligence, 50 MP was still over 60% of the total. A value high enough to make him dizzy.
Normally, I would have to rest, Kai told himself, his monstrous face showing a hideous grin. But now I have a better option. Haha!
Kai’s hand flicked, taking a small vial out of his MRB.
There was something murky and gooey within this vial. Something foul.
Something filthy!
AN: The image reference of Maegor's holdfast (with my hand drawn pointers) is now available on Discord. There you can clearly see why MC had to use levitation and from where. I always upload things like these, that make reading smoother, an hour before publishing the chapter. If you are a regular reader, I would recommended joining Discord, and refer the images or data before reading. (discord.gg/YYU3GyfZnv)
Though, even without it, I think you will get the gist, if you don't want to be a part of Discord server.
