[ Black Lotus Cult - Demon Prison Cage ]
[ Trail of Kodoku ]
Yue Fei walked through the rows of children, all sitting in a lotus position with their eyes closed, deep in concentration. The morning sun was just beginning to peek over the horizon, casting a warm, golden glow over the lush green landscape that surrounded the training grounds. The children were dressed in simple, loose-fitting robes, and their hair was tied back in tight ponytails.
As he walked, Yue Fei spoke in a clear, strong voice, "Ignite the soul to reforge the heavens, govern the body to dictate the Earth. This is the mantra of Heavenward Soul and Earthen Body. It is a technique to help you focus on your ability to sense the Spiritual Qi in the air."
The children listened intently, their breathing slow and steady as they repeated the mantra in their minds. The sound of the wind rustling through the trees and the distant chirping of birds could be heard in the background.
"So focus on the words of the mantra and imagine a flame in the palm of your hands," Yue Fei continued. "The words and the visualization would help you sense Spiritual Qi. When you can sense it, imagine the flames getting bigger and attracting the Spiritual Qi towards itself. The speed at which you can sense and collect spiritual Qi will indicate how strong your spiritual roots are and how much potential you have in the path of cultivation."
Yue Fei paused, looking over the children, and noting the rise of Spiritual Qi around Chun Jiao and Lee Min. "Oh, wow, never expected two Divine/ Supreme grade spiritual roots to be here, should I report this and have these two saved from the great cleansing? ," he thought to himself with a hint of a smile on his face.
In the world of Murim, talent is highly valued and the rank of a spiritual root is highly indicative of an individual's talent, spiritual roots are essentially pathways on an individual's soul that allows one to sense and cultivate spiritual energy, also known as Qi.
There are different ranks of spiritual roots, each indicating the strength and potential of a cultivator. The highest rank is that of the "Divine/ Supreme Spiritual Root," which is incredibly rare and highly sought after. Those with a Divine Spiritual Root possess an innate ability to sense and cultivate Qi at an extraordinary level, and have a much easier time ascending to the ranks of cultivation.
Next in rank is the "Heavenly / High Spiritual Root," which is still considered to be quite rare as only one in ten thousand have one. Those with a Heavenly/ High Spiritual Root are able to sense and cultivate Qi with great ease, and have a faster cultivation speeds compared to those with lower ranked roots.
The "Earthly/ Common Spiritual Root" is the most common of the Spiritual roots and is still considered a good root. Cultivators with an Earthly Spiritual Root have a decent ability to sense and cultivate Qi, and while they may not have cultivation speeds comparable with higher ranked roots, they can still achieve great power and success in cultivation.
The lowest rank Spiritual Root is "Ordinary / Low Spiritual Root" These roots are considered weak and it will be challenging for cultivators with these roots to sense and cultivate Qi. Those with an Ordinary Spiritual Root may still be able to progress in cultivation, but it will require a lot of hard work and determination.
As saying goes for those born with Low grade spiritual roots.
While others take one step, you will have to take a hundred steps to be counted in the same breath as them.
Yue Fei attention quickly turned to a boy from the previous night.
Yue Fei could sense that the spiritual Qi surrounding this boy wasn't even moving, despite his instruction and guidance. "Looks like you were wrong, Kunlan," he thought. "This boy can't even sense the Spiritual Qi, how will he survive the kodaku ritual?"

Hours went by as some of the children began to sense the Spiritual Qi and get up to leave, while a few others still struggled to sense anything.
I sat among the struggling children, my mind filled with thoughts of Alexander's journal. So many questions had arisen in my mind that I couldn't stop thinking about them. I couldn't read the journal due to my paranoia that Xu Wen'an would do something to it. She had reacted so negatively when Alexander had asked about him and the amulet. I didn't want to think about what she would do if she found the journal.
Despite my racing thoughts, I tried to focus on sensing the Spiritual Qi. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath, trying to relax my stress and anxiety. I imagined a flame in the middle of my palms, like the flames that had comforted me during the cold and lonely nights of my childhood. A warmth began to spread through my body as I felt myself sitting on the surface of a dark pond, surrounded by blueish Ignis fatuus.
Slowly but surely, the Spiritual Qi began to converge into the palm of my hands. I felt a sense of stillness all around me, and couldn't help but open my eyes. I saw that almost everyone had left, leaving only a few of us still struggling to sense the Qi.
Yue Fei stood over me, a smirk on his face. "Congratulations! You are one of the last people to sense it. I can surely say that your spiritual roots are below average in terms of everything," he said, his voice tinged with sarcasm. "Now do you want to count my ass hairs, trash?"
'So this bastard is the type of guy to hold a grudge over a joke. Pathetic piece of shit.' I thought to myself as I rubbed my head. I knew I should have been more careful with my words, but I couldn't help it. I was just really tired, and I didn't think much before saying that joke.
"My apologies, Sir, I was just really tired and I didn't think much before saying that joke," I said, trying to apologize.
Yue Fei snorted in response. "Ok, Smartass, start running until you are properly woken up," he said, gesturing to the open field.
"Yes, Sir!" I stood up, glancing at the children who were still meditating. Out of everyone, I only recognized one, the androgynous boy who followed Chun Jiao like a lap dog, Xie Dongyi. I took one last deep breath before starting to run, the sound of my footsteps and the wind in my ears as I pushed myself to clear my mind and focus on the task at hand.

As I closed the door to my room, I couldn't help but let out a sigh of exhaustion. My body was drenched in sweat, my clothes sticking to my skin. I stared at my bed longingly, but my mind was still reeling from the intense training session with Yue Fei. He truly knew how to hold a grudge, even against a kid like me.
( ~ Thump ~ )
The sound of someone knocking on the door caught my attention, and I turned to see who it was. To my surprise, I saw Chun Jiao and Lee Min standing outside, both of them wearing their simple training robes.
"Hi!" Chun Jiao said with a friendly smile, her bright eyes shining with curiosity.
I couldn't help but feel a bit surprised by their sudden visit. My exhaustion getting the better of me, I asked, "What do you want?"
