We were given a 15-minute break by Mrs. Aiko, which I used to get a drink from the vending machine.

Well, the school environment isn't what I entirely expected, but it's still manageable as of right now.

I slipped my money into the cash validator, but the machine rejected it.

I exhaled loudly and tried to force out the crinkles by passing the bill on the end of the machine.

Trying it again, I kept my fingers crossed.

Ah yes, success!

The vending machine accepted the money. I wondered what I should select. After a bit of deliberation, I settled on a can of soda. I know it's probably not the healthiest choice, but hey, sometimes you have to live a little.

I pushed the respective button and a few seconds later.

*Clank*

The can of orange soda fell into the product dispenser. I reached my hand through the flap and pulled out my drink.

I cracked open the can and replenished myself. I must say that I definitely needed that drink.

I checked my phone and panicked a little. I temporarily lost track of time and now I am 5 minutes over the time limit.

Yikes.

I briskly walked towards the classroom door and calmed myself down.

I then grabbed the class’s door handle and turned it.

The door creaked open, and everyone turned to face me. I think the Universe might be conspiring for my social downfall because this door has never creaked before.

As soon as I stepped foot into the classroom. I heard a voice.

"Good of you to join us in such a timely manner, sir."

I froze when I heard that statement. I slowly turned my head to the left as if I was expecting to see my worst nightmare or something along those lines, but it was way worse than I could ever imagine.

It was Mrs. Aiko, who was sitting at her desk twirling a blue marker between her fingers. She looks a bit menacing, almost like a mob boss waiting for all her underlings to arrive.

I flashed a nervous smile and waved, then tiptoed to my desk.

Well, this is even worse than awkward. I am downright embarrassed. I want to bury my head in the sand now.

Mrs. Aiko, who still remained seated, said, "So, class, please introduce yourselves and tell us a little bit about yourselves."

Ah, introductions, the make or break of the school experience. However you present yourself here, it might just be the impression you’re stuck with for the next three years. I have to make sure that my introduction is flawless. Come on, I can do this!

A tall and muscular student stood up first. He looked a bit too big for school. It's almost as if he should be a linebacker for some university’s football team.

"My name is Ryoko Takanawa. I excel at anything physical, I am 17 years old and I look forward to reaching rank 1 with you guys."

OK, that was a solid introduction, but the only thing that I was stuck on was that he is just 17 years old?? What are his parents feeding him? It has to be people, I am sure of it.

The second person to stand up was a brown-skinned female with long black braided hair.

"My name is Eiko Tsuyoshi. I am 16 years old. The thing I am good at would probably be sudoku. So with that being said, I am pleased to meet you all. "

Sudoku? She must be relatively smart then. could possibly be a contender for brainiac of the class.

A male student, who looked like he probably slacks off a lot, stood up.

"My name is Ichiyo Hisoka. I am 17 years old and possibly the best athlete in the class."

Huh? A bold claim by somebody who hasn’t even spent a full week here. I will probably put him in the extreme confidence bracket.

A female shyly stood up and fixed her glasses.

"H-i, my na-me is Maiya Murata, I a-m 16 yea-rs old and my hobby woul-d proba-bly be playi-ng the piano."

Hmm, your typical shy girl who possibly has a wild side based on how much shorter her skirt length is than the rest of the female students in the class. I would make a wild assumption and say that she is probably wearing black underwear right now.

The same guy from earlier stood up and glared at the entire class.

"The name's Yujiro Masaki. I am 16 years old and I don't see the need to tell you about my hobbies or my interests."

Well, we have a top contender for the edge lord of class 1-4.

Sigh. The rest of the introductions are getting boring.

"Ok next"

The chair next to me made a slight screech as it was pushed backwards.

"My name is Minori Tadeka, I am 16 years old. I am not fond of anything, and the things I am fond of hold very little importance to myself. That will be all. "

Well, she’s definitely an ice queen who isn’t going to thaw out anytime soon. So I might as well wear a jacket whenever I am around her.

"OK you there, it’s your turn."

Oh damn, it’s my turn. Let’s get it over with.

I slowly got up and turned to face the entire class.

"Um, my name is Yuki Amaya. I am 16 years old and my hobby is... "

Ummm? Come on, think of something.

"Um, I mean, what I am good at is..."

Really, brain? Is this the time to do a software reset on me?

I could feel the entire class staring at me. I felt like I could potentially pass out, but if I did I would be known as the guy who fainted because he had to introduce himself, and that's a reputation I would like to avoid.

I quickly said, "It’s nice to meet you" and then quickly returned to my seat.

Putting my head on the desk in defeat, I lightly banged it.

How the heck did I bomb an introduction?

Mrs. Aiko said "Ok Yuki, since you didn’t tell us what your hobby was or what you are good at, you should at least tell us this. If you were an animal, which animal would you be? "

I have often thought about it and landed on a cat. People often told me that I had the personality of a cat, so I just went with the flow.

"Umm, I would say a house cat."

The entire class started to laugh, minus Minori.

Are they laughing at me or at my choice of animal?

The ice breakers went on for some time until class was finally dismissed.

I stayed back in my seat, just replaying my grand bombing of the introduction in my head over and over. I don’t think it was something I would get over so easily at all.

Something snapped me out of it.

"A house cat?"

I turned my head and saw it was Minori, "Yeah, a house cat."

"I get the feeling that you are a lazy person."

I got up from my seat and said, "I won't necessarily all it laziness. It's more along the lines of making precise movements while preserving the most energy of possible."

The truth is that I felt no need to try at all, unless I am in a life or death situation. Isn't that the normal thing for a person to do?

She shifted her eyes to the front of the classroom. "When is it considered right for you?"

I placed my bag on my back and said, "Umm, only when it actually threatens me."

With that statement, I left the classroom, but I could still feel Minori’s stare on the back of me.
