Both classes lined up on opposite sides of the pool.
The apparent swim coach introduced himself as Mr. Hikaru Kawai.
He said, "All those who are participating, please stand to the left, and those who are not, please take a seat."
Everyone divided into two separate groups, and I was about to head to the seats when Mr. Kawai stopped me.
He pulled me to the side, "There is an uneven ratio of boy to girl students taking part, so will you be so kind enough to fill in?"
I sighed and agreed to it.
As much as I wanted to avoid swimming, he was basically giving me no choice. Even though his words seemed like he was giving me the option of turning down the off. I could hear it in his tone of voice that he was somewhat ordering me to do so.
I fell in line and looked for any of my classmates who were standing there as well. I did see a few. There is Kyoko, Ichiyo, Yujiro, and a student named Seishiro Aoki. I never really interacted with him, but from what I heard, he's dating one of the three musketeers.
It's almost a month into the school term, and he already has a girlfriend. I must say, life isn't fair. How did he manage to secure a girlfriend before I could even secure two proper friendships? I'll be a bitter person and say that in this game of school life, he's using hax.
When I think about it? Dating does sound a bit interesting. I am not sure what my ideal type of female would be. So I'll put that idea on the backburner until I figure that out. However, I think she will need to be along the lines of easy-going and down to earth.
Looking over to class 1-2's volunteers, there are Yuka Higashi, Ayano Juba, Maris Noya, and two other male students whose names I didn't know.
Wait a minute
I just did the math in my head and realized that Mr. Kawai lowkey tricked me into taking part in this thing. He said the ratio of male to female students was off and he wanted me to fill in for the uneven side.
No matter how you slice the pie, it's still eight guys and two girls.
Sigh. I can't believe I didn't observe the area before agreeing to this. Now, please allow me to commit seppuku for my fatal error.
Mr. Kawai motioned for Ichiyo to get into the pool, which he did.
"Ok, Mr. Hisoka, I will be timing how fast you'll be able to swim from one end of the pool to the next and then back."
OK, so basically we're clocking in our 100 meter times. That doesn't sound too bad.
Mr. Kawai blew this whistle, and Ichiyo was off.
I must admit that he is actually a very fast swimmer. Maybe he wasn't banging on his own chest when he said that he was probably the best athlete in his class.
A little bit of time passed, and Ichiyo finished two laps in the pool.
Mr. Kawai looked at his stop watch and said, "Ok, that's one minute and 28 seconds."
Ichiyo looked rather proud of himself, and I would be too. After all, the average time for a 100-meter swim is roughly two minutes, give or take.
Yujiro was next, and he silently got into the water.
The whistle was blown and he was off like a bat coming straight from hell.
Hmm, I would say that he is potentially faster than Ichiyo, but their build is basically almost identical.
A moment of time passed, and Yujiro finished his two laps.
Mr. Kawai looked at his stop watch again.
"Wow, that's a time of 1 minute and 15 seconds."
I must say that I am impressed. I never once took him for the athletic type, but he just proved me wrong.

Seishiro was next up, and he began his two laps.
His swimming form wasn't half bad, even though it's nothing compared to the first two that I saw.
A few moments later, he was done with his laps.
Mr. Kawai looked at his stop watch once more.
"His time is one minute and 38 seconds."
That's a bit underwhelming for someone who is clearly using hax for his school life.
Well, now it's my turn, and I must say that I'll most likely perform averagely.
I got into the cold water and shivered a bit. I positioned myself and awaited the whistle.
Anticipating the sound of this whistle is slightly making me nervous.
*Tweeeeet*
Alright, there it is, and I was off. I believe I was making great time. Maybe I'll become a professional swimmer after this.
My breathing is in sync, so I'm not accidently swallowing water. I made it to the other side and placed both of my feet against the pool's wall, then pushed off again.
Sooooo back to the other side. After a few moments, I touched the opposite wall, and Mr. Kawai stopped his timer.
"Your time, Mr. Amaya, is exactly two minutes on the dot. A perfectly average time."
Aww. I assumed that I was going to break an Olympic record the way I was going at it. That is disappointing.
I then pulled myself out of the pool and grabbed one of the towels that were being offered.
My chin-length jet black hair is dripping wet and stuck to my face.
I first used the towel to dry my hair as I found a place to sit down.
Kyoko was up next, and then after the students of class 1-2 were about to start their laps.
As I sat by myself, I felt someone approaching me. I looked to the right and saw it was Minori holding that same notebook in her hand. Did she go back into the female changing room to get it? Or was it always with her?
" Class 1-4's Yuki Amaya doesn't pay attention in class, refuses to get himself involved in other people's issues, lacks the ability to make friends, is able to quickly complete examinations while spotting any hidden tricks, and performs averagely in physical activities. Exactly two minutes on the dot is strange, especially since it is the known average time for non-professional swimmers."
I wrapped the white towel around my head and replied, "Are you trying to form a character profile of me in your cute notebook?"
She paused and said, "Of course not," then started to jot down something else.
Yup she is trying to map me out as a person. Sigh what a weird girl this one is.
