Minori sat on a chair that was positioned on the right side of me. We were at the café per her request.

She invited me, but yet she was the late one. How ironic, huh?

She held a menu in her right hand and began to read it.

"So this is your treat, right Yuki?"

I took the menu that was provided for me as well and lightly hit her on top of the head with it.

"How is this my treat if you invited me? Please enlighten me on how it makes sense. "

Minori slightly covered her face with the menu and in an embarrassed tone of voice, "I may have forgotten my purse in my dorm room."

Did she really forget it? Because that definitely doesn't sound like her, but oh well.

I sighed, "Fine, but you owe me."

Minori signaled the waitress and both of us placed our orders.

Well, we were waiting for the cooks to prepare the food. Minori shifted her gaze to me.

"So I think we should form a study pair for this exam."

I looked up from my phone, "Huh? That's surprising. "

"What is?"

"That you would ask to study with me, but I think the wisest approach would be a group study session."

Minori inhaled deeply. "Everyone else broke into their own groups already, so you and I are the only two people left outside."

"Huh? When did we start forming groups? "

"I think you left the classroom before anyone else. You know, the same day Miss Aiko announced the punishment for the class"

"Oh, I vaguely remembered people saying something about forming groups."

I believe Tori sent me a message on Yodell asking me if I wanted to join her study group. I was so preoccupied that I answered the message in mind then relocked my phone. I should get back to her soon.

Minori shook her head, "Can you take anything seriously for once?"

I replied, "I am taking this seriously. After all, an expulsion is looming in the air and I would hate to be in an unfavorable position. "

A few moments later

The waitress then came and delivered our food. I must say their service was pretty speedy.

I got fries and a burger with a small drink. Minori on the other hand had a chicken salad.

I picked up my fries one by one dipping them in the provided condiments.

"Is there anyone else in class that is left out in terms of a study group?"

Minori stuck her plastic fork into the salad and said, "Um, I believe Ichiyo chose to study on his own."

I paused midway through putting another fry in my mouth.

"So you guys just let him do it?"

Minori sighed, "Look, it was his decision and he has to stick by it."

"You are aware that if Ichiyo bombs this exam and goes on to bomb the midterms, then our class is going to be down a student along with suffering a handicap in the next class clash."

"What do you want me to do? Tie him up and force him to join someone's group?"

I picked up my can of soda in my right hand and said, "Well you are already in good standing with him, so I suggest going at it from that angle."

Minori dropped her fork on the plate, "Using someone's affection as an advantage is pretty distasteful, you don't say?"

Honestly, I don't see an issue. If it allows for the best results, then I say do it.

I got up from the chair, "Well, if you can convince him otherwise, then please do."

With that, I left Minori to handle the issue that is Ichiyo Hisoka.

Minori Takeda's POV

I can't believe that jerk left me to deal with this. He has a lot of nerve dropping this onto my lap, as if a smile and a wave will convince Ichiyo to do something.

The next day in class

I came right on time for the bell. Surprisingly, Yuki was already here and doing whatever he was on his phone.

Before Miss Aiko came to class, I walked over to Ichiyo's seat and asked "Can I talk to you for a quick second?"

He was engaged in a conversation with Ryoko and Kai. Upon hearing my voice, he turned his attention towards me.

"Sure, Minori, no problem."

He then walked with me to the side, and I came outright and said what was the topic at in my mind without sugarcoating it.

"Ichiyo I think you should squeeze into a study group. "

Ichiyo folded his arms and said, "I see no need for that; it is something I can do on my own."

I sighed, "You do know that out of the entire class. You're the student who scored the lowest on the last quiz, and you have the lowest score on the entrance exam as well. So I suggest you work with someone else to reduce the risk of placing last on this exam and potentially getting expelled if you score too low on the midterms. "

Ichiyo looked at me, "Are you concerned about me or are you concerned about the possible penalty that our class could receive if someone were to get expelled?"

"Everything I said was out of concern for you and not for the class."

"Yeah right." Ichiyo looked at me with a bit of doubt in his eyes.

I sighed once again, "You told me that you wanted to win this three-year cold war and got on to achieve your goals. How can you possibly do that if you get expelled? "

Ichiyo paused, "So you did actually remember what I said?"

"So would you please just join a study group?"

Ichiyo thought about it for a minute, then said, "Look, this is something I have to do on my own. I know that I am not as smart as the other students here, but I want to believe that I can stand on equal footing with them. So this feels like a test for me. "

I let his words sink in and replied, "I understand, but Yuki and I would be forming our own study pair, so if you do wish to join, just let us know."

I understood where he was coming from completely. Sometimes you have to prove things to yourself, and the thing for Ichiyo is passing this exam without anyone's help. He is a very stubborn person. I wonder if this is how he views me when we disagree about certain things.

After that conversation, I went to my desk and sat down.

Shortly after Miss Aiko entered the classroom and began the morning class.
