Chapter 108: Sins of the father.
Mckenna woke up with a start. She was panting and sweating like she was just in a race with Usain Bolt. Her mind was in a frenzy and she couldn't focus on one thing at a time.
When Jason touched her she jumped.
"It's just me. Are you alright?" He asked her.
Mckenna shook her head. She needed to calm down. This stress was obviously not good for the baby but she couldn't stop the panic she felt. It was the first time in days she has seen the child she helped cover up his murder in her dreams.
"I am sorry" she murmured to Jason.
"Hey, it's just a nightmare. Are you alright?" Jason asked and leaned away from her to grab the water by the night stand. He opened the bottled water and handed it over to her.
Mckenna took a sip and tried to calm herself down.
"It's just a nightmare, baby. I am here" Jason took the bottle and closed it.
"You've not been sleeping well, Mckenna. Something is probably keeping you up or triggering these nightmares. Is it EJ? She could always stay in the Mansion with Tamara and my mother. You don't have to feel uncomfortable in your own home" Jason tried to pacify her.
"I don't have a problem with your daughter, Jason. I just had a nightmare about the child that was killed the night you disappeared after an argument" Mckenna went with the half truth.
"I know it's every parent's worst nightmare to lose a child but it's not going to be us, okay?" Jason lifted her jaw slightly, so Mckenna would look at him.
"I know. Thanks" Mckenna went back to sleep and even though she was safely nestled in her husband's arms, she didn't sleep a wink.
Next morning, she made breakfast for her family, took her daughter to school and went to work like nothing happened.
She placed a call to Jackson and asked him out for lunch.
As she waited for her invitation to be accepted or declined she attended to other things until her sister Amazing and Elena walked into her office.
Mckenna held her breath for a minute. She knew they were there to talk about Tamara Jones.
"I see that you guys are now besties" Mckenna said sarcastically.
"Hi, you are glowing Mckenna. What's your secret?" Elena told her and sat down.
McKenna's eyes widened.
"Oh my God, Amazing! I am going to kill you! You couldn't keep my pregnancy to yourself" Mckenna screamed at her sister.
"You are pregnant?" Elena seemed genuinely surprised.
"I didn't tell her, genius!" Amazing shook her head and rolled her eyes slightly at her sister's mistake.
"Why did you say I was glowing if Amazing didn't tell you about the baby?" Mckenna asked Elena who was currently looking at her like she was an alien with three heads.
"Because you are actually glowing but the most important question here is why you told Amazing before me or why you didn't want me to know at all!" Elena was offended.
They had been best friends forever and they always confided in each other about everything or so she thought.
"Ellie, I am sorry. But you are engaged to my husband's best friend and I don't want to put you in a position where you have to lie to Chike because of me" Mckenna explained to her.
"You didn't tell Jason?! That is a bad-bad idea, Mckenna. Especially with Tamara showing up with his kid that looks like him. You've got to tell him and don't think I have forgiven you for keeping it from me. I love Chike but I thought you and I were soulmates. I used to think you tell me everything" Elena was taking it personally.
Mckenna understood where her feelings were coming from, before the Yagazies and The Donna's, it was just the two of them.
It was just Elena and Mckenna against the world. Maybe, she should have told her and thinking about it now, she knew deep down that Elena would never betray her confidence to anyone including Chike.
So, she told her the real reason for withholding the truth.
"Okay. I didn't tell you because you are sensible. You are too sensible and you are the voice of reason in this relationship and I wasn't ready to do the sensible thing which was to tell my husband that we are having a baby together. I told my sister because she doesn't actually care about good or bad, she would just take my side…"
Mckenna was interrupted by Amazing Donna.
"Geez…Thanks Sis. You basically just called me a psychopath" Amazing said without looking away from the phone she was pressing.
"It's a compliment, Maze and you are not a psychopath. You are a Donna" Mckenna answered and Amazing shrugged. She didn't really care.
"Elena, I am just saying that I don't want to tell Jason until everything is sorted out with Tamara Jones. I don't want Jason to choose me because of his baby. And deep down I knew you won't agree with me"
Elena calmed down and sat down beside Amazing

"But he already chose you, Mckenna. Chike told me as much and Amazing says that Tammy is engaged, right?"
"Right" Mckenna murmured before she continued "but you haven't seen the way she looks at him. I think she still has feelings for Jason and even though Jason hides it well, I think he may still have feelings for her too" Mckenna answered.
Her spirit was down but it was better she accepted the truth.
"Dad says he will hurt Jason if he leaves you and I really believe him. And he will deserve it" Amazing said and dropped her phone.
"Your father needs to stay out of my life, Maze. Playing the aggrieved father doesn't suit Jackson Donna one bit!" Mckenna was quick to chip in.
"Oh it has nothing to do with you, Sis. He just hates the Yagazies and if Jason divorces you then it will be a good reason to rekindle the war between the Donnas and the Yagazies all over again"
Amazing answered with a slight smile like it wasn't really her business if the two families went to war again even though the last time it happened it almost tore the city apart.
"Sweetie, if you don't want to tell Jason which I think is not just foolish but irresponsible, I mean it's his child too and imagine how he reacted when he found out that Tammy kept his little girl from him and…" Elena got carried away with her moral obligation until Amazing stepped on her foot to shut her up.
"I mean…if you don't want to tell Jason then you have my support. I will keep the pregnancy a secret from everyone including the man I love…happy?" Elena asked both of them.
"Yes. Thanks" Amazing answered while Mckenna nodded.
McKenna's phone vibrated and she picked it up. It was a message from Jackson Donna. He couldn't meet her for lunch but tomorrow was perfect for him. Mckenna simply ignored the text message.

Jason left the office earlier than usual. Tammy was dropping off EJ at the house and since Mckenna had a late business meeting, he had to pick up his daughter Kara from school.
Soon, he was at the gate of his home with Kara playing candy crush with her iPad.
"Dada, it's EJ!" Kara pointed at the figure by the gate.
"I see" Jason murmured.
When they got down he hugged EJ and spared a smile at Tammy before ushering them inside.
"We are going to my room" Kara announced and grabbed EJ's hand.
Soon their loud footsteps were heard all over the stairs.
"Hey Tammy. What's up?"
"Nothing much. I have forgotten how lonely the mansion can be. Have you given a thought on relocating your family to the place?" Tamara asked him and tried to sit down when she saw a spider on the wall and without warning she jumped on top of Jason.
Jason still remembered her phobia of spiders from the time they were young.
"Spider! Spider! Spider!" Tamara yelled on top of her voice.
"Get off of me!" Jason's laughter echoed through the entire apartment.
"No.. uh-huh, kill it or I am not stepping on the floor. Spider! I want my mommy!" Tamara was almost crying.
"No, what am I? Your personal spider killing machine. Kill it yourself" Jason told her.
He couldn't remember the last time he was this free with anyone.
"Jason…nope..no..nah…uh-huh, over my dead body…"
When Mckenna opened the door and saw Tamara Jones on her husband's back, she simply had a raised eyebrow.
"What's going on here?" She asked.
Jason tried to place Tamara down but she refused.
"Spider! Mckenna, it's a spider!" Tamara yelled on top of her voice as she pointed at the spider on the wall.
Mckenna exhaled. They were behaving like a couple of teenagers. She took out her shoe and she killed the spider.
She looked at both of them. Jason trying to suppress a snicker and Tamara looking like she had a near death experience. Mckenna shook her head and she raced to her room leaving them behind.
Jason dropped Tammy on the ground and tried to pick up his briefcase when he felt her lips on his. She was kissing him.
Bloody hell! Was the last thing to go through his mind.
