Chapter 211: Template Dungeon Leveling Scenario (2)

After a break, the heroes team ventured deeper into the dungeon.

When their presence left, Jiwon came and examined the patterns on the wall. Rune magic was one of the most mysterious magic of all types out there. Nobody had been able to decipher how this form of magic worked. Records say that most rune magic found today were from the Age of Gods.

“They didn’t activate it. Does it mean they’re safe?”

“It should be here they went missing right?” Jiwon rubbed his forehead.

He knew it was somewhere on this floor of the dungeon. But he just could not recall the actual incident. Did he just forget or.. was this not the one?

“We’ll just continue. Maybe they activated this during their return journey.”

“Roger that.”

“Aoki-san.”

“Yes?”

Sayu and Kaito walked side by side. Kaito had been positioned to the rear of the team to guard against enemies from the back side. Continuing down this path, the monsters would only start to spawn more often. 

The 23rd floor, unlike the previous floors, had minimal routes you could choose from. It was almost a straight path if not for the occasional Y junctions. The walls were made from polished stone, the ground was cobblestone and the ceiling had many beams crossing over each other, acting as branches for the slinging sloths they killed previously to hang onto. Black weeds growing from between the crevices were said to have minimal healing properties.

The place was dim, but lit. It was unknown how the physics were defiled, but that didn’t mean the light orbs surrounding them weren’t needed.

“Aoki-san,” Sayu called.

“Yes?”

“If I decided to drop out.. would you join?”

“Drop out? As in?”

“N-nothing..”
“That doesn’t sound like nothing to me. Come on, just say it, I’m here to listen.”

“I-if I can’t become a hero.. a- and have to become an adventurer.”

“Oh, you mean being chosen out from the main group. It would be great to have freedom. I get how Ishida-san is going to continue to serve this country but me? If I had the choice, I’d take the roadless travel. I want to experience the route of a free adventurer if possible,” Kaito hummed.

“I’m glad..”

“I think a lot of us would want to drop out too.”

“Aoki-sama. I don’t think that’s possible considering your strength,” Alytia who marched in front of the two gave them a sidelong glance.

“I’m not the light hero so I should be able to leave right? Her Highness Siesta said we had a choice.”
“She doesn’t know the regulations like us officials do. An asset like you shouldn’t be left alone.”

“I thought the ones sent out to freedom, the irregulars, are the ones who normally beat the demon lord. Can’t I be an irregular like that?”

“That doesn’t mean we should just let war potential run away as they wish. Please Aoki-sama, our kingdom needs your strength,” Alytia turned back to the front, “Besides, the Irregular for this cycle had been decided.”

Kaito was speechless. Alytia wasn’t wrong per say..

“It’s alright Aoki-san..” Sayu said, sadness could be felt in her words.
“Sorry,” he showed her a bitter smile.

“Oi! MONSTERS UP AHEAD! GET INTO FORMATION!”

“That’s the cue!”

GIII. GII.

The sound of gears turning.

“What the.. it’s a level 72!!?”

If there were such things as a level recommendation, it would be that one should not take on a monster 10 levels above them. Of course, in such a dynamic world, it is more appropriate to judge a winning shot based on the type of monster rather than the level of the monster.

“Everyone retreat!!” Alytia shouted.

“Why the hell?! Is that not a mid level boss?!”

A giant fur golem that reached all the way to the ceiling smashed its fist into the ground.

“He fucking destroyed the dungeon?! God damn! RUN!!” Haru yelled while laughing.

“It’s not the situation to be fooling around guys~” Reina said.

Alytia tossed a taliman onto the ground. A circular barrier came into existence.

Everyone ran back to where they came from.. except Kaito, Ishida and Alytia.

“Get them to safety, we’ll hold this guy off here.”

“Roger that,” Commander Peter gave a crisp salute before running after the other heroes. A white smoke trail appeared behind him. Alytia had a dead fish expression on her face.

“Huh.. Takata-chan you shouldn’t be here.”

“No! I’ll stay. I’ll support you from behind,” she readied her wand.

BAam. BaAM.

The golem, using a dungeon pillar like a baseball bat, slammed it on the barrier. Blue lights flickered and cracks began to form with pieces of the barrier falling apart..

“No, no. We’ll be returning after..”

“We’re killing the thing.”

“Huh? Aren’t we going to retreat like the rest of them?!”

PAchick. The cracks grew larger.

“They’ll just get in the way of power leveling. The lesser the better for the sake of you two,” Alytia declared.
“Heehh..” Isihida muttered with a lazy look on his face.

“Once the barrier brakes. launch it with all you have,” pulling out another talisman from her pocket, she held it between her fingers.

“Then Takata-chan will..”

Crack. PAchik. BOOM!!

“NOW!”

Alytia launched the talisman forward. It stuck to the golem like some magnet. Ephemeral chains flew out. For a moment the chain melted into the surroundings and.. the golem froze in place.

“HOLY CROSS!!” Ishida charged forth and swung his sword. A huge golden cross smashed itself into the golem. 

The golem fell on it’s back.

“Damn it, here goes nothing!” 

Reinforcement Burst!!

Kaito jumped into the air with his sword held in an unorthodox position and struck it square against the core.

Problem was.. the shabby steel sword he used to pierce the golem turned into an accordion!

“Rock pellets!” Sayu waved her wand.

Several small stones bounced off the golem’s body.

“Uh.. it’s not working. We’re going to lose at this rate,” Kaito said, awkwardly.

“Tsk. We should’ve prepared better weapons. With no options left, we can only retreat.”

“Yeah, let’s go before the giant..”

“What kind of mess did they get themselves into..” Jiwon held his head as he watched the four being chased like chickens.

The golem went past Jiwon and Moirae without a slightest reaction. Without a doubt, Moirae’s magic was top notch for infiltration.

“We should follow them shouldn’t we..”

“Let’s go,” Jiwon took out Crimson Ether from the sheath and held it loosely in his hands.

The golem scooped up more rocks from the ground and tossed it.

“Takata!!”

“B-Barrier!!” with tears in her eyes, Takata waved her wand behind to create a magic shield.

Though weak, it was able to mitigate the momentum of the giant rock that came flying at them. If Sayu wasn’t here, who would know what could’ve become of the three. Swiss cheese?

“Hahaha. Oh my god, another save. AHaha, run.. hah..”

“Shut up and conserve your energy!” Alytia yelled.

“I can’t.. I can’t..” Sayu started to lose speed.

“Ah shit, you two go on!”

“What.. Don’t stop!” Alytia, who noticed what Kaito was about to do, yelled.

“Gotcha!” Ishida just continued running as if nobodies’ business.

“Takata-chan quick, another barrier!” Kaito said as he had Sayu climb onto his back.

“O-Okay.. Ngg..”

“Okay! Hold on tight! Get set!”

“UWWAAHH?!”

Since Sayu was on his back, it wasn’t like he was any faster than before.

BOOOM!!!

The rock crashed into the shield.

“Haha.. crap. there’s still a long way left..” Kaito himself was starting to lose stamina. He had never run so hard in his life. 

Also, he would’ve never imagined that he’d gain the strength to carry a girl while doing so.

“Takata, can you do another..”

“Can’t.. can’t..”

GII. GII.

Kaito turned around to peek at the golem.

“ISHIDA, PRINCESS!! LOOK OUT!!”

The golem hurled another rock at them. Kaito quickly dropped face first to the floor. With Sayu on his back, the impact was twice as hard. He felt a pleasant sensation pressed against his back-- that was a plus.

“Uwa.. that hurt shit..”

“Sorry..”

“No, we have to..”

“We’re trapped?!” Alytia couldn’t believe her eyes. 

Somehow, the rock which the golem threw caused the path to crumble. The beams above together with the dirt made it impossible to pass without some powerful earth spell to drill a hole into the debris.

“You two, quick!”

“Crap..” Kaito got back on his feet with Sayu on him and ran towards Alytia.

GGII..

“I didn’t want to use this..” Alytia took out another barrier taliman and secured it to the ground.

Another barrier formed.

“We have to dig our way out of this.. but..”

“I can’t do it.. Takata-sama is also..” too worn to use any spells.

“What can we do then.. crap. Crap.. huh?”

“This,” Sayu pointed at the magic circle, otherwise known as the ‘trap’.

“Looks like we have no other choice,” Alytia grimaced.

Somehow, the three ended back here. The place where they last saw this teleportation circle.

“Takata..”

“If it’s this much at least..”

Pouring the rest of her magic power into the structure, the runes started to fill up, glowing blue. It wasn’t long until light started to grow and.. the three of them disappeared.
