Chapter 9: Chapter 9 – Dragonkin?

‘The challenge I would face is very challenging. There are many things that are still a mystery to me. But I can’t step back. I will try to do whatever, the best I can do.’

Nathan still had his eyes closed. He tried to remember and set himself on what he wanted to do and achieve in the future.

‘I hope.’ He took a deep breath. ‘I hope to find answers to all these questions.’

He let out his breath. ‘I hope I can find the adventure I’ve been missing for so long. And I hope to solve the riddle of the death of my parents.’

Nathan smiled and opened his eyes.

“Are you ready, Edna? On the count of three, okay?”

“Yes, young master,” Edna answered with her warm smile.

“One,” Nathan muttered under his breath.

“Two.” Edna continued.

“Have you said your wish too, Edna?”

Edna was silent, then looked at Nathan’s face. She nodded, “Yes, young master.”

“Three…” Nathan continued.

Then they both blew out the candles in front of them simultaneously.

The tiny flame at the end of the candle was only swayed by the wind from both directions.

Edna’s silver hair also seemed to be lifted by Nathan’s breeze.

Edna covered her mouth with the back of her palm, and she chuckled. “Apparently, I blew out this candle from the wrong direction, didn't it?”

Edna strolled and stood beside Nathan.

“Ready, young master?”

Nathan nodded.

“One, two, three....” They counted together and then extinguished the small candle in front of them.

“Yeay….. Congratulations, Master Nathan… Happy birthday….” Luna was still hovering around, acting non-stop, even though none responded to her.

Edna put the cake on the table. She took a cake knife and made a slight cut.

“Let me help you, Edna.”

“Young Master, no, I can do it myself.”

“You have done too much for me. Let me do this little thing on your birthday, okay?”

Edna fell silent after hearing Nathan’s words. She then let Nathan do it.

Nathan took a small plate and took the piece of cake. He made slight cuts with a fork.

“Edna, this first piece is for you.”

“Young Master? This is a birthday cake for you. I don’t need to eat the first piece, do I?”

Nathan shook his head, “Please...”

Edna paused, then nodded slowly, allowing Nathan to feed her.

“Do you like it, Edna?”

Edna smiled warmly, then nodded. “I made this cake, especially for your 15th birthday, young master. Here, let me help give the young master a second piece.”

Edna grabbed the plate in Nathan’s hand. She made another cut and offered it to Nathan.

Nathan took a bite of it. He chewed slightly and smiled.

“No! Young Master… I’m sorry, I forgot. I’ll get you a drink.”

“No, Edna. It’s okay. Please stay.”

Edna fell silent with a shocked face. “No, I’m sorry, I was careless.”

“No, that’s fine. There’s an added flavor to the cake. I like it.”

“Young master. You embarrassed me….”

Nathan laughed at the girl’s behavior. Likewise, Edna still looked embarrassed by what she had done.

“Okay, Edna. I want to tell you something. Can you close your eyes for a second?”

“What is this, young master?”

“Just a moment. Please close your eyes.”

“Okay.” Edna stepped back and closed her eyes.

Nathan took a deep breath, then exhaled.

‘Edna has helped me a lot until now. Hopefully, I can repay a bit for what she’s done to me after this.’

Nathan slowly raised his body and stood up.

It was the first time he had stood before Edna after a very long time. And that time also realized that although Edna was not too short, about 170 cm tall, she was only in Nathan’s eye.

Nathan smiled, then muttered under his breath. “Edna, open your eyes.”

Edna slowly opened her eyes. She first saw Nathan’s feet, which immediately startled her.

She looked up and saw Nathan’s face. Tears immediately flowed from her eyes. “Young master? I’m not dreaming, am I? Young masters? Can you really walk again?”

“Yes.” Nathan nodded and smiled.

“Young master.” The girl jumped and hugged him.

Edna’s crying echoed in the small room.

Nathan felt mixed feelings when Edna hugged him, between uncomfortable and warm. He fell silent and allowed Edna to cry while hugging him.

“Aha ha ha ha… Master Nathan, see, see, Ms. Edna made even more sense than your own response when you found out your legs were usable again. Aha ha ha ha….” Luna laughed loudly.

“Young master, sorry.” Edna pulled away, still trying to hold back her tears. She tried to wipe out the tears that were streaming down her face.

“I’m too happy to cry like this.”

Nathan scratched the back of his head. “I got an awakening, and for some reason, I finally regained my ability to walk.”

Edna nodded and smiled.

Nathan waited a while.

“Okay, Edna.” Nathan still had his eyes closed.

Nathan was surprised. He was worried and immediately opened his eyes. And he saw Edna’s exposed front body this time, without the maid outfit she had been wearing.

Nathan immediately closed his eyes again. “I’m sorry, Edna.”

“No, no, no, I’m sorry, young master. I was careless.”

Nathan only glanced at it, only the girl’s body part, which suddenly made his face turn red for an unknown reason.

“Young master, I have finished. Young master can open his eyes.”

Nathan still hesitated, but he slowly opened his eyes.

He faced Edna, who now saw a pair of horns sticking out of her forehead. There is also a pair of white dragon-looking wings that cover the front of her body.

“I’m sorry, young master. My clothes were damaged during the transformation process. I beg you, young master, not to be disgusted by the form of this monster.”

Edna explained with her face down and trying to avoid staring at Nathan.

Nathan swallowed. “Edna, is this not your final form? Do you have any other form of this?”

“No, young master. This is my true form, a dragonkin. I know it sounds funny when there is the word dragon in my race, although we can’t be compared to the most powerful race of the past.”

“Dragonkin? Are you sure, Edna?”

Edna lifted her face. “Yes, young master. This is my true form. Dragonkin had become extinct because of hunting in the past. That’s why Lady Diana asked me to keep this form a secret. But that doesn’t mean I don’t trust the young master all this time.”

‘Dragonkin?’

‘Not a dragon?’

Another question popped up in Nathan’s head when he got another fact, but it didn’t match his expected prediction.

‘Then who is Edna listed on the egg earlier? Is she a different Edna?’

Nathan turned to Luna, who also seemed to have no idea about another puzzle they’ve found.
