V was working out with the Welles, all the brothers Jackie had were all friends, and she was included in that. 'The first sister'

Everyone loved her, and how working she was. She worked out with the best of them, for as long as she could handle until she would be told to rest.

She was also the only one who could help cook in the house. Since anything past 'instant' was to much for any of the boys, thought that didn't stop Jackie from making a pot of chili that could knock your chrome out.

Damn good chili, and he's been smug about it ever since he one the chili contest in the neighborhood.

Having just finished her last cool down set for the day she took a deep breath, taking a drink from the 'David Branded' water that everyone else was drinking.

She wasn't sure of the exacts, but David's water was practically liquid gold in terms of everything. It was extremely filtered and god did it taste better then a lot of things. It was also healthy, which out of everything was the most mind-boggling part.

Her eyes glowed softly as she suddenly looked up, checking the caller I.D. before she saw it was Padre.

<Hey Padre!> V

<V, my favorite little Edgerunner in training, I've got a job for you.> P

<A... A job? Like an actual job, and not a practice one?> V

<Yes, an actual job... Just don't get to excited now, it's a delivery job, I need you to run a few packages in the Megabuilding, as well as some down to the bar.> P

<Bar's closed today Padre, Mama said something this morning about it.> V

<I know, but Mama Welles is already expecting the package so she'll be ready to let you in.> P

<Alright, where should I pick up my deliveries?> V

<Seventh floor Office, Mia will be your liaison.> P

V giggled softly at the mention of a 'liaison.' before she hung up and took a quick shower, changing into her running attire which was a tanktop, shorts and running shoes as she took off for the seventh floor office.

The door slid open for her, since she was one of the few people allowed in the offices freely as she walked up to Mia's desk where packages were lined up on.

''Hey sweety!'' Mia spoke from behind the desk, she was an older lady, a kind old woman who helped David manage the building.

'The sweet face of the building' he called her.

''I've already got everything lined up for you, these three boxes right here are light, and their going to floors 64, 58, and 49. Once you return after that, I've got four more for you before I was told to give you the one for the bar.'' Mia said, laying her hand on each box as she said it.

V pulled them into her arms, one was a larger box but it was still pretty light, while having the other two resting on the large one V was all smiled. ''Thanks Auntie Mia! I'll be back soon for the rest!''

V then ran the packages to their respective addresses, everyone she met she knew by first name bases except one. The last one was 49 and it was to a pretty blonde woman, one she's seen around David occasionally but never really spoken to.

''V right? Never properly introduced myself, Samus.'' Samus spoke, offering her hand which V gave a firm handshake to, which caused Samus to chuckle.

''You shake hands just like David does.'' Samus commented.

''Eye contact, firm grip on the palm, not the fingers and one full shake!'' V beamed, it was one of the many random things David taught her, and it was something she used frequently.

''A shake meant for a quick greeting, a respectful one. David does the same thing every time he meets a business partner.''

''Or pulls someone in to break their nose against his forehead!'' V grinned, causing Samus to laugh with her before she waved. ''Thanks for the package V, didn't want to run down to get it anyway.''

V gave her a salute before heading off back to the office to begin with the other packages.

It wasn't until she finally got the bar package that Mia stopped her.

''David doesn't like you getting too far from the Megabuildingg, you know how overprotective he is... But I was told to give you this, even if I don't quite like to, I understand why.'' Mia said as she opened one of her drawers, V walked around the desk only to be handed the hilt side of a knife.

V's eyes widened a bit as she noticed the little note attached to it, it was a simple note, written by David.

'Sorry kid, if you get this that means the job I'm on took longer then I meant it to, Happy Birthday.'

She grinned, having completely forgotten it was her birthday today as she unsheathed the knife slowly.

It was a simple knife, with a V carved between the blade and wrapped grip. It was a solid strong knife, meant for any occasion she might need it. David had been teaching her how to throw knives and she's been getting pretty good at it, but her knife play was the best among all David has taught.

Which was weird, as far as she knew David hasn't trained anyone in combat other than her.

It was definitely personalized to her and she smiled as she held it, sliding the knife back into the scabbard for it and securing it to her arm, so she could quickly draw simply by getting her hands close to each other.

She noticed that once she secured it, it seemed to fade away. David put a small stealth field around it and she giggled as she felt it, she could steal feel the weight of it but couldn't see it.

She'd have to find a way to thank David, this was exactly the kind of thing she wanted, and she could tell it was made by David himself.

''Thank you Mia, package please!''

Mia smiled softly before handing her what looked to be a large official government papers-type package. Along with what looked to be a chocolate bar with 50 eddies rolled around it. ''Happy Birthday V, go get yourself something nice.''

V hugged Mia tightly. ''Thank you Mia! I'll be sure to stuff my face full of candy while thinking about you!'' Then V took off out of the office.

She stopped once she got to the street, taking a deep breath.

Birthday or not, the streets were dangerous.

It wasn't exactly far to the bar from the building, but as David said. 'Constant Vigilance.'

She scouted out her surroundings and headed off, this was Valentinos' turf, and they all knew V well, but it was always better to be careful, always.

Once she got to the bar she went to the back entrance like usual, knocking on the door only for it to slid open, Mama Welles grinning down to her. ''Hey Huno, come on inside. Was just about to start making lunch.''

''Is everyone else here already?''

''The boys are all here, how else would I get them to sit down and eat lunch?'' She chuckled as she took the package from V and lead her inside, the door closing behind them as they made it into the bar.

When she made it into the bar, she froze stiff as she noticed everyone in the bar, it was packed full of people with decorations and food already set out everywhere. A large sign hanged between the second story and hanged down.

'Happy Birthday V.'

V turned, gobsmacked to Mama who only smiled down to her, nodding before everyone roared at once.

''HAPPY BIRTHDAY V!''

''FUCK YEAH! LET'S PARTY!'' David roared from the crowd, V took off like a bullet, charging right into him as he caught the little missle.

Lifting her onto his arm he grinned as she hugged him tightly. ''Think I'd miss your birthday? Not every day your best friend turns 14.''

V punched him in the arm, then turned to begin taking everything in, her heart felt full of love as everyone was there gathered, already stuffing their faces and waving towards her as they passed, or some walking by to give her a more personalized birthday wish.

She could see the center table that was full of presents as well causing her to grin as she was now practically vibrating full of excitement.

''Alright V, go enjoy yourself a bit, eat all you want just don't throw up.'' David chuckled as he sat her down, letting her run off to join her friends.

A few hours later, V slumped into the booth next to David, the whole gang there to attend her birthday.

''Who knew celebrating my own birthday could be so exhausting.''

David chuckled softly, looking up across the room to Mama Welles as he nodded to her.

A similar nod was returned as she got behind the bar to grab the package from before and walked over to the table, handing the package to David.

''I know you've already torn through all your presents, and you had all your fun. But I've got one last present I would like to give you.'' He offered it to her.

She took it, looking at it a moment before she opened it up, noticing the papers inside she pulled them out.

Reading over the paper her heart began to beat quickly in her chest, her eyes settling on three large words near the middle of the document.

''I know you don't have the 'greatest' experience with family, but fuck them... Even if you don't sign the paper, you'll always be family.''

'Valarie Martinez Welles'

She looked up from the paper to Mama, and then to David, clutching the papers to her chest as the waterworks started, soft and quiet at first.

Only for her to fully break down in loud sobs once David pulled her onto his lap and into his arms, hugging her tightly.
