Blake maneuvered through the forest, panting as he passed through tall trees, searching for a place to hide. He had been retreating for a long time already, and he knew he couldn't hold for much longer.
The bleeding from his injuries hadn't yet stopped. He needed to promptly close the wounds or else he would simply pass out from exhaustion and loss of blood.
As he passed another tree, he felt the ground beneath him gradually rise upward. Glancing forth, he was pleased to see a not-too-steep mountain leading up. This was good enough.
Blake run upward and settled his back against a tree. If anyone found him, they would at least not be able to shoot him straight away. He took a few stitches and some aspirin as he began to work over his injuries.
The pain was intense and would make normal people pass out immediately, but it was nothing new for him. This kind of pain wouldn't be enough for him to accept his fate.
'They are here already.' Blake heard the muffled steps behind him as he prepared himself for the attack. They were too near him to retreat. Sideglancing, he noticed four soldiers approaching from behind, with one of them being a considerable distance from the group. Probably in case of a sneak attack.
Blake smiled. They thought that by spreading their forces, they would be smart, but it was actually the other way around. That soldier in the back was a weakness he would exploit.
The soldier leading the group saw the blood marks on the ground, which have come to an abrupt end next to a particularly tall tree. Without even saying anything, he opened fire, which was followed by his two companions doing the same.
Finally, after emptying half of their ammo, they stopped and contemplated the eradicated vicinity before them. The blood on the ground was fresh, they were almost sure that bastard had died.
However, when fighting against the Ghost, things weren't always for sure, and this theory was once again proved true when they saw a grenade rolling beneath their feet.
They barely had a second to glance to the side, where they found a slim figure standing. His entire body was riddled with injuries and his clothes were stained with soot. However, what shook them the most was the black mask covering his face, coupled with the dead body of another soldier before him.
The next second, an intense turmoil shook the area as the group of soldiers disappeared from existence. Blake, on the other hand, was already running north, fully knowing that this battle would attract even more soldiers.
While he traveled, Blake sighed quietly, not understanding how things progressed this fast. For over twenty years, Blake had been the leader of a secret organization that worked for the government to do all kinds of shady missions. He had lost count already of how many important figures he had assassinated with this squad.
However, at one point, when the world had turned somewhat peaceful, the authorities within the government decided to dispose of them.
Those in the government were most probably simply afraid of their prowess, for they had grown much more than expected. If let loose, they could probably destroy this entire nation.
Still, Blake didn't expect to get ambushed inside his own secret base. His entire battalion of soldiers, friends who he had spent the last ten years with, died in a matter of a few minutes. It was no surprise since there were five thousand soldiers stationed throughout the entire island.

Luckily, Blake and his few other combatants escaped the ambush but had to disperse for the best chances of survival.
"Serving for this long, killing so many people just to simply get betrayed." Blake clicked his tongue but kept his emotions at bay. He didn't really care about himself, for he had long ago lost his path. Retiring would most definitely result in him being killed, as he knew too much information, and that's why he simply continued taking part in the missions.
Yet, even death wasn't that scary to him anymore.
However, things were different for his companions. They had been people with their own dreams and ambitions, yet they were now dead. Even those who escaped were probably soon going to be lifelessly lying on the ground.
Regret was building up inside of him, which was later followed by anger. If he ever got out of this situation, he would make those bastards pay. They would finally understand the sheer fear of being hunted by the Ghost.
As Blake finally reached the peak of the mountain, a gorgeous sight of the sky opened up before him. He was finally out of the woods, yet he only frowned further.
The sight was beautiful, yes, because it was a freaking cliff. He glanced down and saw waves crashing against the gravy stones below. Blake figured it probably wasn't that deep, and he would probably break his legs if landed correctly.
Blake glanced back for one moment as his hair stood up on its end. There was a sniper somewhere in the distance, and a bullet would blast his brain in a second. Complying with the vision, Blake turned his head to the side, and the bullet passed just a few centimeters away from him.
"It seems like there is no other way," Blake mumbled, sighing to himself. Since he was spotted already, there was no way of retreating. Enemies would be here in a few minutes and, even with his spectacular gift, he wouldn't be able to survive.
Not even thinking anymore, Blake simply jumped from the cliff, letting another bullet pass through where he had just been standing. Air pressed against his entire body, and Blake suddenly felt excited rather than scared.
Flying like this without a parachute was quite exhilarating. However, this didn't last long when he saw the fast-approaching ocean. Blake straightened his body and braced for the impact, closing his eyes.
Yet, that impact never came.
Instead, he felt a peculiar sensation pass throughout his body, as his body was submerged into coldness and heat at the same time. He tried to open his eyes, but that turned out impossible.
Blake tried his best to stay conscious, but the bizarre environment was only worsening. Soon, Blake completely passed out, not understanding what had happened.
