Standing there, I was blank.
Nothing came to mind for my decision.
It was 2 am and I was completely awake, and undeniably confused, but still, calm in some sense.
This couldn't have been radiation, 'cause it'd flash blue, not white. And I'd be throwing up like crazy.
But I felt... fine.
Well, other than the fact that I was slowly backing away to meet my parents.
I wasn't gonna take this dilly-dally, no matter how care-free I was.
My back was drenched with cold sweat.
Knocking on their door, I opened it after a brief moment of no response.
My steps were silent, and I looked at my parents, so oblivious.
"Mom."
Her eyes fluttered.
"Hm?"
"I need help, mom. Follow me."
She squinted her eyes, and sat up.
"Why?"
"There's something outside."
I didn't straight up say it, because if they truly didn't hear it, then it probably meant they couldn't see the crater, as well.
"Mm, alright."
She probably thought I was worried for some monster, though I really did outgrow that phase much earlier.
I led her out, and there was the crater, in our dull, dark neighborhood.
"What...?"
Now fully jolted up, she whispered in suppressed pain, "We'd just gotten our driveway fixed last year...!"
When we moved in last year, our driveway was a wreck from who-knows-what, and we paid a lot for it to get repaired, so it was understandable for her to get upset, but...
"What happened, Ray, and why didn't you tell us?"
"I was going to sleep when something fell from the sky. Nobody heard it except me, that's why you didn't wake up... And I was scared."
She kept her eyes at the crater, blankly staring.

"How is there a crater from nothing?"
Huh?
The box was there, white.
It just didn't glow anymore.
Massaging her temples, she ushered me back into my attic.
My slow steps echoed. I didn't make an effort to be silent anymore.
How?
Just, how?
I mean... My mom didn't even see the box.
Or could she?
I'd half a mind to run back and take it.
How bad could things be, anyway?
Well, I mean, I could technically die.
These things don't just happen.
In fact, I'm probably the only one for this to have happened.
That box was the size of my pencil case.
Which angry kid did that? How mad do you have to be?
Depends on which 'mad.'
I continued thinking on my mattress.
My mom would've returned, worrying what to do later. She was capable, so I'd leave that to her.
The coast was clear, and I was practically betting myself.
And I made my mind.
...I need that box.
