CHAPTER 4:

With a swift movement, he avoided the fatal attack. The rabbit's teeth met the empty air. Yakiro turned his back and swiftly jumped into a shortcut on the wall.

The beasts chased right after.

Luckily previously this domain belonged to him. Therefore, he knew almost every ways there and where they led to. However, trying to get rid of these Carnivorous Rabbit was a real challenge for Yakiro. Worse, he was in the body of a Level 1, which rendered him useless in direct battle.

The only way to escape them was to use mind tricks.

Yakiro were aware of his Stamina. Similar to the game, when he ran, his energy got sapped and he felt tired, just like the way a character loses Stamina when running or dashing. Therefore, is was important that he came up with a solution fast, or he would become the monster's meal.

Fortunate enough, he suddenly remembered a trait of these rabbits: They would not attack if the target was stronger than them, even of the difference was one level. They had the ability to sense dangers just like real rabbits, and they would automatically retreat if they notice the approach of a stronger entity.

Sadly, Yakiro right then was not anything they would be scared of.

"Alright, at the end of this shortcut is the lair of the [Plated Golems]. It's better to lead them there."

Yakiro did the calculation in his head, then dashed through the way. Behind him, the "ribbits" sound and the reflecting light of their fangs did not cease even a little since the start.

Then from the shortcut, he reached an area filled with yellow and grey rocks. Each of them resembled an unique shape, and it could be say that no two rocks were similar to each other. The ring of the area was covered with 16 pointy rock pillars, with strange symbols carved on their top. Scattered around the fields were huge boulders, which acted like obstacles for anyone wanted to get through the place.

And the kind of unique monster that inhabited this land was [Plated Golem] - the rocky entities that was highly durable and each attack packed a punch.

Looked like one of them just noticed the arrival of Yakiro.

The rocky monster lifted its hexagon head, revealing two hollow holes on the face which resembled its eyes, and watched as Yakiro ran towards itself. Its height was at least twice as Yakiro's height, and from the size, one could say that it was ten times heavier than him.

However, in contrast to the insatiable Carnivorous Rabbits, the Plated Golem did not had any hostile intention towards Yakiro.

That was exactly why Yakiro targeted this area as his landing spot.

Plated Golems are proud creatures. They did not attack anything that was weaker than itself, except if being directly provoked. This trait made them the perfect counterpart for the hungry rabbits. In addition, it was worth notable that the average Level of Plated Golems was 30.

Yakiro sled to a boulder which was surrounded by the golems and hid himself carefully behind that giant rock.

The flock of bloodthirsty rabbits immediately halted right at the moment they met the golems. They shook their heads rapidly left and right as they had already lost track of their prey. The beasts looked confused, but they did not dare to cross through the golems' area.

In the end, Yakiro saw each of them retreated back to the way they entered, until there was no rabbit to be seen.

His plan worked !

Yakiro let out a peaceful sigh. It was not a long pursuit, but for a Level 1 like him, any of the attacks could be extremely critical.

"It's time to return."

He stood up, still carrying the recovery bottle inside his palm. He had to remember to return it back to his air-headed companion, who was still waiting for him behind the steel door.

-------------------------------

"Good morning. The sun is up high alreadyyyy. Wake up or monsters will come an eat youuuu !"

After taking some other shortcuts, Yakiro reached the area behind the door. It was another a corridor, but filled with amber lights attached on the walls. Opposing to the dark corridor at the dungeon's entrance, this corridor brought a totally different feeling - warm and cozy.

Therefore, it was not hard to understand why our curvaceous beige haired lady was sleeping on a flat stone near the door. Did he went away for too long?

"Hellooooo Yominaaaa??" Yakiro shook Yomina's shoulders repeatedly, making her drooling saliva splatted on to his face.

"Good morningggg ~~~ Is breakfast ready yet??? Yawppppppp"

The lady yawned, got up and scratched her disheveled hair. Her half-opened eyes wandered from here to there, and her sleepy mouth couldn't help yawning.

This silly girl just slept right in the middle of a dungeon without any protective protocols. Yakiro really wanted to scream "Are you dumb or what" in Yomina's face, but luckily he was calm enough to hold it back. While he was having a hard time out there cutting the rabbits away, this carefree lady just peacefully enjoyed her nap at a place she had never been to.

"Yes the breakfast is ready."

Yakiro pulled out a black leaf from his pocket, which he had collected from his way back there, and put it near his sleepyhead companion's teeth.

*Gnaw gnaw*

The lady munched on the leaf.

And she spitted it out immediately. Her face crumbled as if she just tasted one of the most disgusting food in the world.

"YIEKKKKKK SO BITTER !!!"

That overly bitter taste from the black leaf surely had given Yomina's foggy brain a straight jump start.

"Welcome back Yomina. Looked like you slept really well huh?"

"Ahhh it's you.... Wait was you in danger? You look injured. Let me find you something that can be used..."

She had probably noticed the scratches on Yakiro's clothes. A little blood was damping those scratches, probably from the moment he rushed to the boulder earlier.

"I'm all good, don't worry. I didn't even have to use this."

Yakiro handed the HP recovery bottle to Yomina with the biggest smile he could give out. The surprised lady's opened her eyes widely when receiving the bottle back.

"But those rabbits... Where were they? You can escape them and still being alive? What sort of creature are you????"

"Told ya I'm not a Level 1, remember? It's just that my level was drained. I had experiences dealing with those beasts before." Yakiro calmly spoke.

Well, a lot of experiences, to be exact.

He pulled his teammate up from the flat stone and the two continued their journey through the amber corridor.

"Say, you are already Level 20 right Yomina?"

Yakiro asked. His voice raised a little bit at the end, hinting that something was confusing him.

"Yes I am. What's wrong?"

"You should probably have at least 5 Abilities right now if I recall it correctly. Although being lower level, I believe you could still use some of your abilities to shoo those rabbits away earlier, but you didn't do so. Why was that?"

Yakiro asked, but the tone of his voice sounded like he was curious, rather than being investigative.

"Ah... It was because... none of them can be used to attack..."

Yomine answered, but her face got redder and redder as she lowered it down and kept on looking at her feet.

"...which was exactly no one wanted to team up with me. I was so happy earlier when there were some adventurers invited me to explore a hidden dungeon earlier. It was the first time someone wanted me to be in their team. However, it turned out to be a fraud..."

What Yomina said what reasonable. In World of Esseka, a player without any offensive abilities were normally unwelcomed in any parties.

The reason for this was the special ability system of the game.

In World of Esseka, there was nothing such as "class". That is to say, there was nothing such as restrictive class skills. The things such as "Warrior class can only learn Warrior abilities, or Mage players should only focus on using magic,..." never existed in the game.

Instead, players could freely learn any abilities they want.

The only things to note was that players could only learn a new ability every 5 levels, and the strength of an ability was scaled with how proficient the users was with it, meaning the more they used and get acquainted with the ability, the stronger it would became.

There would be players who mainly focused on close combat attacks, but still possessed extremely insane team heal abilities. There were also marksmans whose main purpose was to attack from a far, but also owned highly skilled swordsmanships when the situation called. There were also tough tankers who had multiple artillery ablitilies, making them literally a moving fortress.

The way a player built his or her character could be totally unique, and that distinguished themselves from the others. Each of these built followed some kind of "pathways", as the player community defined. There were "Battle Healer", "Battle Mages", "Artilery Tanker", "Enchanter Sorcerer",.... and hundreds of other titles that they could thought of. Nevertheless, Yakiro did not think that these terms would exist in this world where he was currently in.

However, this free way of building abilities meaning that a character would always own at least 1 or 2 regenerative or protective abilities. Therefore, most of the time, a party did not need a particular healer because each of them was capable of sustaining themselves. Instead, they would prefer someone who could aid them in dealing damage. The role of pure support in World if Esseka was not highly valued.

So if thinking the ordinary way, it was the reason why a person with absolutely zero direct offensive capabilities like Yomina would not be able to participate in many parties.

"Can you tell me what abilities are you having right now?" Yakiro turned to her.

"Ah...eh... Not much. I have [Root], which allows me to root a single target. I have [Mana Recovery] to recover some mana for anyone. I also have [Fast Footwork], which help to boost Movement Speed. Then I have [Levitation] that allows me to lift an object or a creature on to the air. Finally, when I reached Level 20, I hadn't learnt any new abilities yet..."

Well, a bunch of buffing abilities.

Not letting Yakiro spoke a word, she kept on talking with a faint, but bitter smile on her lips.

"...I know that they are useless, right? My parents hadn't taught me anything about abilities before they passed away so sudden, so I just learnt them randomly. I only realized that they did not help much when I started being an adventurer..."

She clenched her fist.

"...But still, I want to try as hard as I can, practice, and become the strongest version of myself. I will not stop until I can take down IT alone. I will not stop until I can truly defeat Barsackra myself to avenge for my parents. But on top of that, I really don't want to lose any precious people in my life anymore..."

Feeling that her tears were going out again, Yomina immediately halted her sentences and quickly wiped her eyes until they got completely dry.

"...I'm sorry, for letting you hear all of this."

Yakiro silently walked in front of Yomina, and placed both of his hands on her shoulder.

"Yomina. No one is useless."

"But... I am not useful to anyone..."

"Shhh... Look at me, Yomina."

Yakiro looked straight into her eyes, which made her blushed a little bit.

"I used to be a seasoned person. However, I made a fatal mistake, and now I am Level 1. That's right ! Level 1 with no freaking abilities or boosted stats. Just plainly level 1. And then what, does that stop me from entering this hidden dungeon that is filled with dangers?"

"Ah... no."

"Does that stop me from opening a way to escape from the Carnivourous Rabbits earlier?"

"Ah... no."

"If Level 1 is the worst form of uselessness, then how could I do those things?"

"I... I don't know..."

Yakiro looked straight again into his companion's beatiful green eyes.

"Because, I repeat, no one is useless. I could do those because although I don't have the strength myself, I understand my enemies weaknesses. I understand the environment around me. I understand that I can do it if I try enough. If you view yourself according to others' standard, you could never find out what your true potential is !"

Yomina's green eyes opened widely. They eopened so wide, probably because she just received one of the most encouraging advice the had ever heard.

Voices from the previous adventurers who rejected her echoed inside her head.

"<What? You have no attacking abilities? Sorry, but adventurers like you will have no space in our team.>"

"<Well, well, look who's here. Isn't it the dumb adventurer? What kind of people who never learn offensive abilities for themselves, but instead a bunch of useless abilities?>"

"<Haha, what did you say? Y.. You learnt that dumb [Fast Footwork] ability? For what?>"

"<Sorry, we cannot take you in ...>"

"<Sorry, we can't...>"

"<Just go away...>"

Since being continuously rejected, didn't know since when, Yomina had lost faith in herself. She believed that if she did not learn a tons of offensive abilities, she could never join a party. What kind of teammates could accept a useless adventurer like her into their squad?

However, when looking again, she was literally IN a party. A party to discover a hidden dungeon - a party that accepted her. Although it only has 2 people, it was the first time there was anyone who agreed to join her without even belittled or looked down on her.

Moreover, in front of Yomina was an example of impossibility. Her companion was just Level 1 and has at max 1 ability. Nevertheless, he had such a calm mind and a great calculative planning skill.

Did he followed anyone else's requirements?

Did he even turned to her and panicked "YOMINA WHAT DO YOU THINK WE SHOULD DO NOW????"

For too long, she had bore the utmost negativity just because she applied others' viewpoints on her, and strived to make herself became that unrealistic version.

Just to be accepted.

And that day, was the day she realized that there would be someone in the world that accept her as herself.

With the widest smile on her face, she held Yakiro's hands as tight as she could.

"Thank you, Yakiro. Your words have really made my day."

"Haha no worries. It's important that you understand who you are." Yakiro grinned and walked straight forward.

*Crack*

Suddenly, a stone crack appeared above his head.

Then a sharp, heavy rock, resembling the shape of a large pole, fell down from the crack. It could certainly crashed anyone underneath it.

Unfortunately, Yakiro did not seem to notice it.

But Yomina did.

"WATCH OUT YAKIRO ! ABOVE YOU !"

"Wait what?" Yakiro startled at looked up.

However, the moment he realized it might probably be too late.

"Come forth ! [ LEVITATION ] ! [ FAST FOOTWORK ] !"

Without hestitaion, Yomina quickly launched her spells from both of her arms. Her left hand pointed to the rock with Levitation, while her right hand pointed to Yakiro with Fast Footwork.

Amazingly, Levitation held the rock suspended in the air. At the same time, Yakiro with the aid of Fast Footwork had successfully got out of the dangerous area in just a second.

When she was sure that Yakiro was safe, Yomina dropped the rock on the bare ground, shattering it into pieces.

"Woahhhhhhh Yomina, what was that?? Did you just saved me from danger? Thank you thank you" Yakiro stepped and grabbed Yomina's hand, which made her blushed.

The shy lady tried to hide her face, with was getting redder and redder.

"Ahh... I guess. It's...nothing...actually."

"Say, you just literally saved a life there. Do you still want to say that you are useless or not?"

As a reassurance, Yakiro again held Yomina's hands tightly and looked at her.

"Yomina, no one is useless in this world !"

Yomina lifted her head up, and gave out a bright smile. It was a truly sincere smile coming from her heart.

"YES !"

"Great to hear that."

Yakiro patted his companion's back, and the pair continued their path.

Being a low-level dungeon, their destination was already very near.
