Chapter 19: Chapter 19: The Awakening

<Spirit network found. Begins the Awakening> 

Right after eating the eye, the world spins and it’s like everything is sucked into a tiny hole, including you. 

Then, you find yourself going through an endless tunnel of colourful hexagons and symmetrical flowers and lights. It’s like the inside of a kaleidoscope, but the kaleidoscope itself is constantly breathing and changing. Yes, even the lights are breathing and morphing into different shapes and patterns. You try to move your arm around to catch and touch the shapes. But… what arm do you have? Take a closer look, you now have no arms or legs. Your body is just another symmetrically morphing flowery shape, similar to the other million ones jiggling and flying around you.  

But… you don’t feel panic at all. For some reason, you feel at peace. It’s like… you have lost your ability to feel anything other than peace? And happiness. You start to giggle, at the shapes, at yourself. 

You then notice, there is a very bright light at the end of the tunnel, and it seems like you are heading towards it. What is it? You wonder. You are not really sure, but just by looking at it, you can hear a sweet scent of happiness. 

Fascinating! You gasp.

Everything is beautiful. It is quite a beautiful sight to behold. There is even a song being sung by colourful particles… 

But, it all ends abruptly.

Darkness suddenly takes over that light at the end of the tunnel and everything is turned to red. Light turns into flame and flowers turn into demonic faces. 

"Aaaaaaa!"

The song turns into screams. Hell, the screams are ear-wrecking and full of terror! 

You are not flying anymore. You are falling!

Deep, deep underground you fall, reaching full velocity, inside a vortex of dark fire.

There are millions of demonic faces screaming and crying inside that fire.

So, is this hell? you ask yourself.

But then, you notice... 

Wait...are they… the demonic faces ...blushing? 

And the screams... you can now hear it clearer...

"Ahhhhh~..."

They are not just screams! They are screaming moans! 

Shit! Are they enjoying this!?

The fire then grows. It burns. It burns really hot!

It then consumes you!

You scream and cry your everything out, just like the countless demonic faces around you!

Pain.

So painful!

But…

You feel… a spark. You feel… joy?

“WHAT THE HELL NYA? NYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!”

And so, you keep falling, and falling, and falling…

Until…

You return to reality.

Your body shivers. Now you can understand why they were saying that it’s better to just gouge out your eye and replace it with the Eye of Azrael. Hell, you would even prefer spending years doing the awakening process manually than going through this again.

Damn, the stuff you went through was terrifying!

And weird!

“Master?” a familiar voice is asking you. 

You turn your head, see Yukumo and immediately break down crying. You miss her so much. You wonder how long it has been…

“Uwa… so… so good to see you nyaaa~.” You sob. “I thought I was going to die nyaa…” 

You see Mimi too. 

“Master, how does it taste?” Mimi asks.

“Horrible nya” you answer, hugging your head. “Guys, how long have I been gone nya?”

“Gone? What do you mean?” Mimi answers you with a question. “Hmmm… if you are wondering about how long it’s been since you ate the eye, then I would say... ten seconds?”

“Whatttt!? Just ten seconds? Impossible nya!”

You are sure that you have been inside that fire vortex of hell longer than that! It was like an eternity!

“Yeah!” But Yukumo also confirms this. “Master puked out stuff, then collapsed, then suddenly master stood up again like nothing happened!”

“Eh? Is that so nya?”

You then look down at the floor, and you see your own puke.

“Whaaaaaat?” you shout in panic and denial. “Is that real nyaa!?”

So what Mimi and Yukumo are telling you is true! It was just mere seconds! 

Anyways, lucky that you somehow did not fall onto your own vomit.

“But… but… it was like years for me nya!”

“Yeeeeah…” Mimi is just floating around you. She currently has a pen flying with her too, writing some stuff down. “The eyes of Angels tend to mess with people’s minds a bit.” Mimi then adds.

“Nyahh! So you tricked me!” You growl. At the same time, you feel like a fool for believing her. “You said there will be no side effects nya!”

“Eh? What side effect?” Mimi says back. “Master just went for a really intense trip. It’s not like your brain is fried, or your body exploded, or your soul is devoured, or you suddenly turn psychopathic, am I right, master?”

Hearing that, you can feel your eyebrows twitching. 

You… can’t believe it…

This book! 

So that’s what she meant by side effects! Ah, now you remember. That demonic grimoire is a freaking masochist! To her, something like unbearable pain or even eternity torture are NOT side effects at all! In fact, she may even enjoy it!

Honestly, how the heck did you forget that in the first place? 

Yeah, you now make note to yourself that you should be careful next time.

But… mmm… didn’t you quite enjoy that too? 

“Master, it’s alright…” Yukumo jumps up onto your head and starts massaging your hair and ears. 

Ahhh… You exhale and relax a little bit. You then think, Mimi is understandable, however…

“Yukumo, why didn’t you warn me about the side effects nya…?”

“Huh? I did!” Yukumo answers with an innocent voice. “I told master that gouging your eye out would be a better idea, right?” 

Eh… right…

So it’s all your own fault that you suffered, isn’t it?

“Hmmm… master’s physical capability seems to have increased a lot.” Mimi is now floating around you and checking your body from different angles. “Oooh! Nice! Your magic system is now stable, and it seems like your chakras are all activated!” 

“So, master, what did you see?” Yukumo then asks while Mimi is doing more observations. 

“Oh, I saw…”

You then proceed to tell both Mimi and Yukumo about what happened.

“So… what happened next?” Yukumo asks, curiously.

Right now, you are at the part where you fell through that endless fiery pitfall. You insisted that it was Hell you saw, but Yukumo denied that and said that Hell looks nothing like that. Also, that beautiful light tunnel was not Heaven, nor the way to Heaven like you thought it was. It makes you wonder whether that spider angel has been to Hell or not, given that she has already seen Heaven. 

But, this still leaves a question. If they were not manifestations of Heaven or Hell, then what the heck were those things? 

You asked Mimi. But she just said that every different person experiences The Awakening differently, so she was not sure either. Whatever you saw, it could be influenced by who you really are, your perception of the world, and how you view yourself. 

But… that is useless, since you can’t even make any sense out of that experience at all.

However, that was not everything.  

“Next, I saw a tree nya.” You continue.

“A tree?”

“What tree?”

Yukumo and Mimi both ask at the same time.

“It was a humongous tree! A tree on the clouds nya,” you answer. “I was only the size of an ant compared to that tree. Half of it was alive, green and beautiful. But the other half, it was dead and burning nya!”

“What?” Yukumo seems to be surprised by your answer. “Master, did you see any fruit? And what color are the fruits?” she then asks.

“Hmmm…” you try your best to remember. “Yes, there were fruits! They were rainbow colors nya!”

“And what about the other half?” Mimi also joins in. “Master, did you see something else, like any animal?”

“Animal? Aha! There was this cute snake going around eating fruit nya!”

“Snake eating fruit?” Mimi thinks a bit. “Master! And was the snake spreading fire that was killing the tree?” 

“Yeah, it sucked the tree dry anywhere it touched… nya.”

“Oh my…” Mimi suddenly gasps.

“Eh? Is there anything serious nya?”

“No, but… I just cannot believe it.” Yukumo answers. “I don’t know how, but the tree that master saw, it was definitely the Tree of Worlds.”

“No doubt about it.” Mimi adds. She then opens a page of herself. There is the drawing of a tree, similar to the one you saw, with some fruits hanging on one half and a snake crawling on the other half. 

Below, there is a name. 

Yggdrasil.
