Chapter 20: Chapter 20 – The Tree of Worlds nya

Yggdrasil… The Tree of Worlds.

Some say it is a real thing, some say it’s just a concept. It is a tree where every branch leads to a new dimension, while every fruit is a whole different world. Time flows differently between worlds, even logic and common sense can be different too. There used to be over ten million worlds that existed at the same time in the past, connected together by just one tree. But now, not anymore. Half of the worlds has been destroyed.

That’s what Mimi told you after you asked her for more information on that giant tree you saw after eating the Eye of Azrael. You asked about the snake too, the one who was going around eating the fruits. You thought that it was an evil entity that was destroying worlds, but turned out, it was quite the opposite.

That snake was actually a guardian. 

“As life and death make a complete cycle.” Yukumo said. “Like a person gets old and dies, even the suns die after burning bright for thousands of years. So, as old worlds die, or collapse for some reason, the snake eats it. It then transfers energy back to the tree to birth new worlds. Just like that the cycle then keeps repeating itself, endlessly, so that the universe can keep its balance.”

So, basically, this Universe exists in a vacuum. New energy cannot be created out of nothing. Therefore, for a world to be born, another one must die.

But… if so, then why was the number of worlds now greatly reduced?  

The answer was… another force was and is currently at play here. 

Yes, the Lich Queen.

But how?

Even though you were still super curious about this matter, Mimi said that it’s still too soon to dive further into this. Yukumo also agreed and said that you will eventually be able to answer this question once you have travelled and gained more knowledge of this Universe.

So, you got up, and got ready.

You have to be stronger!

And today, you will start your first lesson in controlling your power and raising undead.

Obviously, running down the stairs might take too long, so Mimi teleported you outside the castle instead.

You open your eyes wide. In front of you, a vast grassland appears, spreading wide as far as your eyes can see. You also see the shadows of tiny trees at the skyline. It must be a forest, and there’s a whole mountain range too! The crimson night is filled with shining stars. 

“Woahhh, so this is the outside nyahh!” you shout in excitement. This is the very first time you have ever set foot outside of the castle. There’s a whole new world for you to explore. You can’t wait!

N~yahhh!

Raising your arms up making a stretch, you inhale, the freshness coming from the ocean air instantly fills up your lungs, creating such a deep relaxation. You can hear the nearby ocean waves crashing onto the reefs.

“Master, isn’t this world beautiful?” 

Yukumo is now sitting on your head. Mimi follows you too. She’s restlessly spinning and flying around. 

“Nyah! This world is awesome!” you nod.

And then, turning your head around, you can see your castle. Woaaah! It is huge indeed! There are many windows, and balconies, and there are even pointy roofs too! It looks exactly like the epic fantasy castles in your imagination, the ones with bats swarming out from its windows every night along with some kind of echoing howl or creepy Bleh bleh bleh laughs. Well, there are no bats or howling or bleh bleh bleh sounds coming out of your castle though, but you still love it very much.

And as you look up above the castle, you see the giant moon. It has the same beautiful color as your crimson eyes, and the way it shines, is like that the moon is dying this whole world in red.

Epic.

But… something’s odd... isn’t it?

“Yukumo, why is it already night time nya?”

Exactly! The three of you just finished eating breakfast, there’s no way night time can arrive this fast!

“Master,” Yukumo brushes your hair, “there’s no more sunlight in this world…”

“Yeah, the concept of the sun has been destroyed.” still flying around, Mimi joins the conversation, “sunlight no longer exists. Not in this world, or any other world. Well, we can still talk about the sun, but it can never manifest itself into a world anymore.”

“The… the Lich Queen did this nya?” shocked by Mimi's words, you ask.

“Yes.” Yukumo replies. “Many people saw the sun as a symbol of hope and happiness. But not the Lich Queen. She really hates the sun, so it was the first thing to go.”

Hearing that, you shiver. “I… I see nya…” 

So, based on this alone, you can imagine that this Lich Queen… whoever she is… is really strong! 

You now wonder if it’s even possible to defeat her.

“Master, don’t be discouraged!” Yukumo taps your head to give you a sort of encouragement. “With our help, you will get that strong too!”

“R-really nya?” you ask. 

“Yeah!” Yukumo replies.”Master, who do you think we are? I am an Archangel! And Mimi is the greatest grimoire in this Universe!”

“Oh right nya!” you exclaim. For a moment there, you totally forgot that you are not in this world, this game, alone! You have friends too, don’t you? If Mimi and Yukumo both believe in you that much, why can’t you do the same thing and put your trust in them too?

Hence, “Let’s go nya!” you say. 

"Yes, master!"

Mimi replies and makes a spin. Some black smoke gathers around her, and then…

“Open!”

Right after she said that, the black smoke spreads out, forming a circle big enough for you to go through. 

"Master, this is the gate into the world of Underworld, Eminia. You will be training there today!" Mimi says.

"Nya!" You nod, and step inside the gate. 

It then closes immediately.
