Chapter 70 - Cognizance (19)

Act 10

Sehun sat in front of his laptop monitor in the study of his apartment and turned on his USB microphone. He snapped his fingers, making the senior lawyers on the screen stop hustling about and focus on Sehun. These lawyers were the manager-level members of a larger group in charge of a company acquisition matter project by Doguk.

Sehun quietly stared at the screen behind the lawyers’ heads, then he said, “If you made a partner sit at his study on a Sunday, don’t you think you’d need to make my voluntary service worth it? I hope this is a discussion that will help your careers as well.”

Then, the most experienced lawyer in the group raised his hand. His face clearly showed his determination not to ruin Sehun’s weekend. He inhaled deeply, then he pointed at the lawyers next to him in order. “Starting with me and going clockwise, we determined the key conditions of the contracts signed by the company to be acquired, articles of incorporation and rules for the board of directors, the collective agreement and labor regulations including employee insurance, the status of the assets including chattels and real property, and the status of the human resources of the company. As instructed, we investigated various areas of law and are writing a due diligence report. We thought it would be best to have an interim check-in with you to report a few key points in brief.”

Flipping through the printouts, Sehun asked calmly, “In the printed documents that Secretary Tak sent by courier, I see that the details on licenses, IP rights, and taxation are missing. Is Team B doing those?”

“Oh, yes. The various licenses and IP rights are being investigated by Team B. An accounting firm is investigating the tax issues independently, so those will be reported separately tomorrow. Our team is doing its best so that the acquired company can operate smoothly after the deal closes. But we need to finish gathering and organizing within the team first. I was wondering if you were all right to resume the meeting in one hour.”

Sehun clapped shut the document and replied, “I also need to look over the additional documents I received today, so I’ll give you some leeway.”

“Thank—”

“I’ll give you 25 minutes,” Sehun one-sidedly ended the conversation. He flicked off the switch, muted his mic, and watched the lawyers on the screen running around wildly. He brought over the printouts and a fountain pen, then he sat on his sofa, out of view from the lawyers.

He leaned back comfortably. As he quickly sifted through the documents, his eyes gradually became very focused.

“The likelihood of success or failure of the deal on the line… Why is this opinion letter so verbose? Did they not look at the report written by the Fourth-year?” Sehun muttered to himself. As he flipped through the pages, he marked the relevant points.

Just then.

A page fell from between the documents. Sehun picked it up, and his handsome face wrinkled faintly. It was part of the document submitted by a senior who specialized in labor law. The page was an addendum with charts on issues such as the overdue status of wages and termination pay and on the status of temporary workers. That itself was nothing special. However, the name on the top right corner made his brow knit together.

He stared at the short note in the corner, requesting feedback if there were any errors, along with Yoonshin’s name and number.

‘The team’s assistant manager asked Yoonshin to do work without my permission,’ Sehun thought.

It was only Yoonshin’s name, yet Sehun felt his throat getting parched. This was probably because this was a trace left by Yoonshin. Sehun threw down the pen and paper roughly and rubbed his face with both hands.

Since the other day, Sehun’s time passed a bit differently than usual. Time felt slow like driving over a rough and bumpy, unfinished road, and the next moment, his car would bounce around uncontrollably. This was all thanks to the incident between him and Yoonshin at the bar a few days ago.

He recalled the chilly breeze that blew on the dark terrace, their bodies pressed on each other as if to melt the cold air. The younger man’s eyelids slowly closed as Sehun leaned in, his dense eyelashes fell like curtains around his eyes, and his ruby red, moist lips squirmed, nervous because of the impending kiss.

And then, what touched Yoonshin’s supple skin…

Sehun’s lower half gradually felt tight as he thought back to that day. Sehun grew aware of an electrifying sensation spreading below his waist and bit his lips. He lowered his eyes and saw the bulge of his pants.

He unzipped the front.

The sensual sound of the zipper filled the air.

Sure enough, he saw his member, swelling up in size and pitching a tent.

He was rendered speechless for a moment, then he cursed out loud, “Damn it, what the hell am I doing?”
