Terra
The next afternoon I was carried like a potato sack by Fredericka up to the top deck and into Hayli’s room.
“Thanks.” Hayli says as I am placed down, not particularly carefully. I rubbed my bottom and then stood up.
“No problem, anytime. Now, Earth, remember if you go ahead and do it finish outside.” She winked at me. I glare at her, about to yell at her for calling me Earth. Wait, no something else was wrong here... right? No... I wasn't Terra that was a name- ugh, fuck. Wait, oh twins... my head. And Fredericka's perverted joke wasn't helping it.
“What?” Asked a confused Hayli.
I quickly pushed Fredericka back outside, in hopes that Hayli wouldn’t realize the intent and to keep Fredericka from answering. “Fuck off!” I yell as I slam the door shut. I winch at sound and turn around still feeling odd.
Hayli cocked her head and turned to me, “That wasn’t nice.”
Ignoring my girlfriend, I ask, “Why’d you have Rica drag me up here, Lady Hayli?”
She looked at me like I was stupid, “To spend the day together with you, of course.”
“Then why have her drag me up here?” I spoke in response. Wait... Hayli was just my friend. Right? Ugh.
“So that you couldn’t freak out about being up here and refuse.” She sat down on her bed.
“Ooh, evil.” I smiled and sat down next to her on the bed. She leaned on me and smiled. My face grew red.
She grinned, “Aw. Cute. The perfect bottom.”
“S-so, what are we doing?” I ask as she does what I usually do and places her face way to close to mine. No, she never did that. Not at this time. What the fuck was I talking about.
“You know, talking, hanging out, eating together, practicing my magic, making out, and reading your journal. The usual.”
“Making out?” I asked looking towards the door. “Um, I prefer to stay with the majority of my bones unbroken. Seriously, are we even dating?"
“Uh, of course we are dating, Tellus. Oh, and don’t worry about Sair-Bear, I told her I was taking a break today, she should do what she does and sleep all day. High Mother knows she needs it.” She got up and locked the door, “Just to be sure.” She smiled and kissed me on the lips, letting us stay together for a few seconds more than usual. So, a few seconds. Wait, no hold on what was the name she called me?
I pulled away from her, feeling even weirder on top of the embarassment. Both of our faces we’re red. “So, let’s see th-that magic.”
She looked upset, though the chance to show off to me seemed to cheer her up. She walked over to her dresser and poured a pitcher of water into a bowl and place it on the floor. Her tail straightened out and she placed one hand over the bowl. She made some noises, which I assumed were used as an outlet or channel to allow her magic to activate. At first only a few stray droplets rose above the bowl, but soon a swirling orb was floating in the air.
She looked at me with a look that asked if I was impressed. I shook my head; I was hard to impress. My first experience with magic was a high bar to be honest. So, if we disallow that, it was impressive. Magic that moved water was barely uncommon, though it usually required continuous flow from a force since it would lose water easily. Hayli’s magic had none of those flaws. I smiled, as a strange sense of deja vu crept up my spine.
She shaped the water into a heart, then a sword and then careful strung it in a series of ring around her and let them stay there. I clapped, feeding her praise that her face was absolutely begging for. She beamed and returned the water directly to the pitcher. She then returned to the bed.
“Impressive, right?” She nudged me.
I shrugged, “I suppose.”
“Well.” She rolled her eyes, “So, you’ve heard about the island spell, right?”
“Yes, I had a conversation… well, more of an explanation from my brother of it a bit ago.”
“So, um… will you still like me without memories? I mean I’ll still be fine; with the whole one love thing my species has…”
“What one love thing? That's literally nothing that you have ever mentioned to me ever Hayli. Second, you're a lesbian and I'm... umm well, wait... I'm a girl too. Right? Yeah, I'm Terra, Hayli. What's going on here? Where's Caela?"
“Yeah, but people told me stories back home of how people under those spells could change personalities drastically.” She replied ignoring me.
"Are you even listening to me, Hayli." I wave a hand in front of her face.
“Maybe we should not be on the island.” Okay this was getting strange.
“I’m not sure that’s possible.” I say something that made sense in context.
“I mean what’s the radius of the base spell? A few miles off the coast? I could carry you that far using my magic.”
“Yeah, but what about the others. If you show up claiming to be a Hero and me as Shield, how would they take strangers appearing out of nowhere?” That was the line, right?
“Won’t everyone be a stranger, Talahm?”
"Okay, this isn't right." I stood up and began walking to the door. Hayli continued to speak before me, something that didn't feel right- a conversation from a time I was never supposed to be in but not one that I was fully gone from.
I sigh, yeah even now I didn't want to be on the top deck of a boat. I move to the bed and close my eyes and drift away in to-
I feel the wind hit me, and I shoot my eyes open again. I was outside, I was- by the theater.
I sighed feeling that disgusting jolt as I stood in a freshly brought suit that I had already fucking worn but not here, at a dance in middle school but now the fake memories in my head were telling me was a suit that Hayli and Sairah had basically shoved on me after showing up in my normal attire. I held the hand of Hayli, who was dressed up like a princess or something. Her hair was in a bun, kept taught with a hairpiece borrowed from the High Mother, long, elbow length peach-colored fingerless gloves covered her hand and arms kept together by a ring on each middle finger. Her dress was beautiful, with pinkish lace shoulders and a tight bottom that barely fell to the floor. I was pretty sure it was beyond the pay even Hero’s make in a year. She must have saved for a bit for it. Her face was covered in makeup, most noticeably a light pink lipstick on her lips. And her slight skewed eyeliner and mascara that Sairah had tried to do while the dress was being tightened.
I pulled at my tie; it was way too tight. Hayli chastised me as I let it slack a little. Apparently looking good at a play is important or something. I really didn't get this her. It was like off even for whatever fuckery was going on here.
“Wow, you two look nice. Even you, Earth.” Complemented Fredericka as we approached. She was in a nightgown-like red dress, with nothing else out of the ordinary. She probably had brought guard clothing mostly. “I mean compared to my date that is.”
“I’m not your date.” Complained Vern. He wore a black suit jacket wide open with his tie somehow tied so wrong that it was funny.
“Are you guys listening to me or are you just following a fake version of the past again?"
“Learning to tie a tie is not something I need to worry about while I’m kicking demon butt.” Okay to be fair, that Vern never listens to me.

“I hope you never need to marry anyone then Vern." Okay I least could have fun until I found another exit. Whatever was happening had to have an out. Was... this the memories Hayli had? No... It was still off for even that.
“I’ll show up in full armor and make sure my sword keeps people from asking.”
"About what?"
Behind us Hayli and Fredericka were engaged in a conversation.
“Oy. So, this is Dirt’s lizard wife.”
“H-Her name is Earth. And we- we aren’t married… yet.” Okay how the fuck was the pronouns right with my deadname. Was this even proofread?
“Hmm. You’re a lot cuter than I thought you’d be. Kinda assumed you’d be nowhere close to what Earth described you as. Besides I always assume she’d end up with a hideous demon.”
“You’re even ruder than Heart described you.”
“Thank you.” Fredericka grinned.
I look over at Vern again who shrugged. I sighed; this was worse than reliving the actual night. Reliving... Wait? I frowned, something at the back of my head pulsing and screaming. There was something I was forgetting. A reason for me to be here.
I shook my head. Well at least I would get to see the play again. I did actually really like it, you know.
After entering inside the usher took our tickets and ushered us to our seats. We had been placed in a box that was so far away that the people setting up the stage looked like little dolls. I repressed the urge to hold my pointer and my thumb up to my eye and crush them like ants.
“How the hell are we suppose ta see the play?” Whined Fredericka sitting down in one of the two chairs closest to the stage. Vern sat down in the chair next to his date Frederica. Hayli and I sat down on a short bench next to the back of the box.
Hayli leaned on me and smiled, “That Fredericka girl is rude.”
Okay, I wonder if she'll still get mad at me without ruining her 'make me realize I was trans' plan. I mean I clear already realized that- though I wasn't sure about the suit. Suit? Wait... I glance down. I still had on the ugly slacks but from the waist up it looked like a strapless black dress. Okay, what the hell. At least choose one or the other.
“Why do you hang out with her?”
“Because we're friends." I reply, hoping I'd get a reaction.
“Oh.” She scooted her body even closer to mine like she was using me like a prop to hold her up. “So, do you want to watch the play or…”
I respond trying to see if she'll get madder, “I’m here so Vern and Fredericka don’t cause a scene so, I don’t think I’ll have time for a play.”
Hayli sighed and looked disappointed, “Oh, is that all?”
“Yes. And every other line I'm supposed to say, la di la di la." I replied waiting for the obvious reply.
“Fine, fine.” She sat up. “I’m going to get drinks. You can stay here.” She got up and left leaving me alone on the bench. I lay down on it eventually Fredericka and Vern yell at me to go after Hayli. Cool new names for me are Ziemia and Ep. I sigh walking down that same path when a thought hits my mind.
What if I went somewhere I hadn't been? I move towards a door marked with a Do Not Enter sign and pull it open walking inside. It was dark. I walked forward slowly at first but then I gradually began to pick up the pace until I was in a dead sprint as I realized that it wasn't stopping. After ten minutes I stopped to rest, hand on my knees and turned around to find... the door. What the fuck.
I sat down and sighed. How had I gotten here? I focused, trying to figure it out. I was with Hayli and Caela in the catacombs and... that's all I could remember. Fuck.
After a few hours of waiting the space, I suddenly heard a voice, my voice.
"Terra!"
"Dione?"
"Oh, thank goddess you weren't playing along. Okay, I need you to use DS."
"Why?"
"Just trust me."
I nod and produce the orb. And then all the darkness and the door went away and gave way to a field of flowers with a single small pink sow on a hill. She looked at me and let out an oink and pranced down to me and after allowing me to pet her for a good while while calling her a cute little piggy-wiggy spoke:
"You, why aren't you in your place?"
Okay now a pig was talking to me. "What?"
"Why are you in my fields, mortal?"
I felt someone walk up beside me, "I assume here, you are known as Letum. I must apologize but Terra is not one to be here."
"And why should I let her back?"
"Because she is important."
"Important how."
Dione said a word that I cannot transcribe, and the sow let out a squeal. "I see. Fine, Shard. I shall grant thee your request."
And then I felt the ground give way beneath me and I fell until the world became void.
