‘Never again.’ Nyx swore.
Never again would it do something so mindless with no regard for the consequences of its actions in the future.
It took four miserable, miserable, wet days for it to lose the trail of the frankly insane bird chasing it with no regard for her life.
Nyx had never been so grateful for its durability as it was at this moment. Surviving the beleaguering of the creature’s talons and beak would have been impossible otherwise.
Although the bird’s attack started at the top of a large unknown tree, it swiftly moved them through swamps and plains then into an area of the jungle Nyx had no idea even existed. And as if Nyx’s unfamiliarity with the environment hadn’t already made flying hell, the downpour of rain exacerbating its vision did the task
Not even the rise of the moon had kept the monster at bay, seemingly only succeeding in heightening the monster’s senses and little else.
On the bright side!
Nyx’s skill in flight had leveled up so much from sheer necessity that it was now even in the second stage!
So had its other abilities actually.
Especially rectal burn, which had proved to be the only reliable option of attack since wing projection became impractical the first few uses.
Coming to the end of its wits, Nyx swiftly surveyed the thicket of trees around it before diving into the crack of stone partially hidden by the overgrowth of vines around it.
The relief felt at the loud flaps of wings moving further from its location made Nyx stop in motion for a moment, only to be pounced on by a grotesque-looking sack of flesh foaming from its elongated mouth and red in the eyes.
“Gyyyyyy!!!” The creature shrieks, successfully decimating Nyx’s nonexistent nostrils and swinging repeatedly at its core with sharp claws.
‘Pain! pain! pain!’ The only part of Nyx’s mind still conscious after days of strain unhelpfully chanted, but the creature’s large size made it immobile and unable to resist the flurry of strikes, leaving Nyx with no choice but to bat pathetically at the creature’s skin with the pointed ends of its crystalline wings, desperately wishing they could be sharper.
Everything else after the feeling of getting blood-drenched and the appearance of some floating symbols was a blur of color, but Nyx remembered still cutting into an unresponsive carcass before the wave of emptiness overtook its thoughts.

=====================
Nyx awoke confused by the pain of scratching before its clouded mind realized that it was merely being chewed on by the vermin feeding on the corpse of the creature rotting above it.
‘Off, off.’ It shooed, spinning on the spot to get them off, but feeling much more alive and rising into the air with a fluid motion.
It didn't have a solid grasp on the time period it spent in the blankness but the rest had proved to revitalize its mind and would probably be practiced more frequently in the future.
‘This explains why some creatures became motionless at night time.’ It thought, feeling abashed at once considering such an activity a waste of time.
Observing around the cavern it now occupied, probably the former terroir of the rabid beaver, Nyx was shocked at how vastly different the space looked in daylight. Gone was the dull green moss and relacing them were crystal clear stalactite and large pink things with skin spotted black.
Curious, Nyx moved closer to poke at them with the tip of its left wing, but they remained motionless.
Were they like the plant outside? If so, why did they grow in hallowed rocks and not below the generous light of the sun?
‘Perhaps they are deformed.’ It concluded, noting that no other explanation could possibly make more sense, since it would justify their appearance and location.
Although their coloring was pleasant enough to look at, they lacked the vibrant pallor of other plants, and their stubby stature left much more to be desired. Immediately, Nyx felt an overwhelming pang of sympathy emerge since no child of Mother Nature should ever feel inferior in comparison to their brethren.
That was simply not how things were meant to be. In the short few months, Nyx had gained sentience, it has seen many varieties of greenery with unfortunate shapes or coloring.
But their inadequate appearance had never stopped them from competing for the sun’s affection and in most cases, they bathed alone in the sunlight while every other greenery grow at the cracks below them.
A plant already blessed in color like these should never feel the need to hide shamefully from the sun.
‘Clearly,’ Nyx thought, feeling the weight of responsibility already settling on its wings,‘ These plants need help.’

Encourage by an unprecedented sense of purpose, Nyx solemnly accepted.
“Aaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!”
Then like a flipped switch, every plant growing in the five-mile radius flooded its mind with their desires and cravings.
“Off! off! off!” It exclaimed, slamming into the cave walls repeatedly but failing to lessen the pain of raucous voices invading its mind.
Ten minutes into this futile endeavor sees the cave widened in width and the skill [mind break] added to its catalog.
”Ugggg…” Nyx groans from its spot on the ground, then swiftly fly up in shock at the sound.
“Who said that!”
“Who said that?!”
“Who said…Me?!”
“Nyx said that!”
“I said who said that! Nyx can make sounds?!”
“Whoa! A new ability!”
Excited, it pulls up its status screen but is disappointed when nothing much changes excluding the addition of some more symbols.
