After activating the Smackeroo skill, Ari grinned menacingly at the wolves that were so eagerly chasing him. It was time for him to show them that sometimes prey are really predators in disguise.

Lifting the rubber hammer above his head, he rushed towards the nearest Demon-Eyed wolf and brought the weapon down on its head before the creature even realized he was there. Most players would think that a hit from a rubber hammer couldn’t cause even minimal damage, and if this was real life, that would be correct.

However, this wasn’t real life. When the skill Smackeroo is in use, the rubber hammer becomes harder than steel. Therefore, when Ari hit the wolf over the head, it wasn’t just a hard boink, instead; it was with a force that could demolish skulls.

It was very satisfying for him to watch the head of the wolf that had been so vigorously chasing him as if he was a piece of meat, smashing open like a watermelon on a hot summer’s day. And just like a watermelon, the creature’s blood splattered everywhere, covering him in its black blood.

However, this didn’t faze Ari in the slightest, instead after throwing away a piece of brain matter that was stuck in his hair, he turned his attention to the next wolf.

Seeing that Ari had joined the hunt, Nabi smiled. Finally, she can stop with the defensive tactics and move to the offensive. After throwing one last AOE blast, she jumped toward one of the beasts and stuck both of her swords in its neck before pulling them out horizontally, cutting off its head.

The wolves were no match for the two of them despite having three times the rage. The one-sided battle continued until all the monsters were dead, and their black blood was all over them.

“Urg, I wish this game didn’t have this feature,” Nabi complained, pulling monster bits from her hair.

Laughing, as he let his pickup pet loose, Ari said, “Please, I know you think it’s cool.”

“Yeah, at first,” Nabi replied as she let loose her own pet. “But you admit that it’s kind of disgusting.”

Shrugging, Ari activated Blessed Rain, washing the blood and gore from both of their bodies. This was one of his racial skills and it was very handy. Most players had to keep the blood and gore on their bodies until they either found a lake to bathe in or rent a room in town.

“I actually like it. I think it gives the game a realistic feel,” Ari said.

“Says the boy that complains about the Stamina in the game.”

Sucking his teeth at her, he said, “Hey! Having a stamina bar in a game is just a crime. You can’t convince me otherwise!”

“Whatever hypocrite, let’s gather our pets and go to the next area,” Nabi replied, seeing that both pets had finished collecting all the items, making the wolf’s bodies disappear.

“I’m not a hypocrite, it’s the truth,” Ari muttered before opening the system on his wrist and pressing return in the pet panel.

Just like that, both pets returned to their owners with bundles on their backs. Ari grabbed the blue bundle that was on his pet’s back. Once he did, the items inside of it entered his inventories, followed by a system message.

Checking them out, Ari saw he has finally gotten the last of the crafting material he needed. They can finally find a higher mob to grind. Just as he was about to tell Nabi, he saw her pluck something out of her pet’s mouth.

Ari was curious to know what it was since pets only hand over special items they find through their mouths. However, shock and fear rush through his body when he saw she was holding a rune fragment.

If only he had seen it sooner, he would have told her to make her pet get rid of it. Sadly, as soon as she had touched, it became too late.

‘Is this because I’m too lucky or she’s too unlucky,’ Ari thought as he watched the fragment dissolve into black dust in his friend’s hand.

Bewildered, Nabi looked down at her hand, realizing the item had disappeared. “What’s going on, Kismet?”

Ari wanted to say ‘the beginning of hell’ but he couldn’t. It was as if fear grasped his throat. He could only watch as the sky darkened, more so than it already was.

‘Aww, shit!’

Regaining his voice back, Ari grabbed Nabi before bellowing, “Nabi, we need to run!!”

However, before they could even move, a thunderous roar echoed in the sky, followed by a flash of light that struck the ground. Ari quickly checked his surroundings, only to see that a barrier had been erected already. This is when he knew it was already too late to run.

Things were about to get real.

Nabi, not knowing what was going on, looked up at the sky in confusion. “Kismet... what in the world...”

However, the sound of the wind howling cut her off. It was as if it wanted to compete against the thunder and lightning that was happening above. And just to top off what was happening, it started to pour.

While Nabi was awestruck by what was happening around them, Ari was searching for a place to hide. A loud thump that caused the earth to shake halted his search.

“What the hell?” Nabi asked, with confusion written across her face.

That confusion turned to straight-up fear when a white goopy projectile landed on some grass next to them, dissolving it completely.

Knowing that the monster had arrived, Ari grabbed Nabi’s hand and ran for cover behind a giant rock. His heart thumped hard in his chest. He had a feeling that they might die here. He knew he couldn’t let that happen. If they died, not only would it would boot them from the game, but they would also lose half the experience they gained over the course of the day.

Peeking from the boulder, he saw a ginormous, luminescent white acid-spewing slime that was coming closer. Ari could only gasp when he saw it. This monster was super rare to see and always dropped the best loot.

But why is it appearing to two low-level newbies like them? Was it because of his Charm skill? Whatever the reason was, they were still trapped like rats, so they might as well try killing it. This was a once-in-a-lifetime chance, after all.

Glancing towards Nabi, who was looking fearfully at the monster, he said, “We’re going to have to kill that thing.”

“Or... and there is an or... we can just log out,” Nabi said, looking at Ari as if he was out of his mind.

“If we do, we will get a penalty,” Ari replied. “It would be better just to die.”

“So you admit we’re going to die?”

Shrugging at the question, Ari responded, “I can’t promise we won’t die, but I can promise to try my best to take the monster down with us.”

Knowing that they would have to battle if they didn’t want to get the penalty, Nabi let out a sigh before asking, “Do you have enough material to craft some bears?”

“Yeah, I just gathered enough to make at least 10 acid-immune ones,” Ari replied.

“Ten... huh. Hopefully, it will be enough,” Nabi said as she took out her twin swords. “Well... get to crafting!”

Chuckling nervously, Ari took out his sewing kit and began making bears. Luckily, he leveled the skill high enough that it only takes twenty seconds to make each one. By the time he had five of them complete, the giant slime was already knocking on their door… or should he say rock.

Knowing that there was no time left, Ari threw two of them at the beast before shouting, “Enlarge and hold!”

“Come on, Oppa! Let’s go die like heroes!” Nabi yelled after gathering her courage, before charging at the monster while activating her stealth skill.

Ari took a deep breath before pulling out his giant rubber hammer and running into the fray with a smile on his face. He had no reason to be afraid. After all, he had already died once, and that wasn’t even inside of the game.
