Chapter 1: ZERO CHAPTER: Reality (Prologue)

It's an uncharacteristically warm day with a cold that can be felt in the deepest reaches of the bones when Xavier is awoken by the ominous sound of liquid tapping on the floor...

Tap.

Tap..

Tap…

The sounds echo the room much like a leaky faucet…

"Urghhh...."

He grunts as his eyes peel open ever so slowly feeling awfully heavy like trying to rip glue off his eyes with only the strength of his eyelids…

As the dark of the room becomes visible to him a sudden surge of pain strikes his ribs and head which forces his left eye shut as he squints to the dripping of a single stream of blood across his eye...

"Ah!"

"Ow...ow...ow...huh?!?!"

Xavier exclaims in great pain through a hoarse and dry throat.

But before he can understand why or where the pain is coming from something catches his eyes...

A man...

A man hang from the ceiling by only his wrists…

Right in front of him...

"Fa-Father??"

"..."

He utters in a confused voice as the silhouette of this man is one he unconsciously finds familiar.

"FATHER!!!"

The shout is loud as a sudden realization of the man's identity dawn's on him!!

With it the immediate need to do something to help!

However, just as he tries to... a quick jerk of movement reveals even more pain and much to the contrary of his immediate needs an inability to move...

"What?!?"

Xavier thinks to himself as he finally realizes he is bound as well.

But for him it is to the floor.

Cuffs around his wrists and ankles.

Connected to chains hammered into the ground that bind him.

"I see you're finally awake..."

"Xavi..."

"…"

A rusty dry voice peers through which has Xavier turning his head upwards back towards his father to see him.

To see a silhouette of the man forcing a smile with only the dirtied white of his blood shot eyes and teeth seeping through into visibility...

"Fa-father…"

"Ju-just you wait I'll find a way to get us out of this...."

Xavier mumbles about in a disheartened panic half in belief of his own words and half trying to understand just what exactly is happening before he is cut off by his father...

"You're…"

"More level headed…

"Than I thought..."

Victor chuckles softly in between breaths as he continues to try to force a smile much to the dismay of a already disheartened Xavier…

"You'd be..."

"Fa!!!!...."

Xavier cuts him off which gives way to a silence.

The sight of his father…

This broken down tied silhouette of a man who shivers now to even maintain a smile for him.

As if to try and say everything is alright…

The strong yet gentle man he knew who now hangs in front of him like a goat before the slaughter causes an even greater panic in Xavier

And as adrenaline courses through him, Xavier is about to explode when as if reading his mind...

"Quiet Xavier they'll hear you..."

"ah…"

He is cut off…

With it comes the realization of the predicament they're in...

Chains....

An empty room that hosts only the two of them...

Their battered and bruised bodies...

And finally the uncomfortable feeling of danger lurking around he has had since he awoke…

The situation they find themselves in finally hits him.

"Ri-right..."

He whispers back distraught as he fails to look his father in the eye.

"Now listen to me Xavi…"

"We don't have much time..."

Xavier winces at the words of his father biting down on his lip as he looks to the ground.

"Wait..."

"Wait ...wait father…"

"I don't understand what's going on...."

"Why am I chained to the floor..."

"Ju-just what happened here...

"You look..."

Just then the sun peels into the room and Xavier turns his head up to his father as the secrets that lay hidden in this room are finally unveiled to him.

His body properly revealed for the first time to him...

From the purple bruises that mark his wrists and ankles indicating dislocations...

To the unnatural bend of his fingers and toes clearly broken in swollen purple...

And finally the deep lashes on his chest and thighs…

Deep enough to indicate a constant whipping with which's marks would turn anyone's stomach...the reveal of the gruesome lashes so deep as to expose the inner nerves and muscles....

"What happened to you....."

He only barely utters the words choking as blood mixed In with tears now shoot across his face...

"Heh..."

"Maybe I gave you too much credit after all..."

Victor says hoarsely, forcing the words out his mouth in between choking and an uncontrollable shiver in his teeth…

Xavier looks away once more…

Unable to stomach the sight of his father in his current state as his body begins to shake and shiver all over to the uncontrollable flow of his tears....
