Nine years went by from the day of the meeting. Romeo was now twenty five years old and had learned how to run the Cirillo family efficiently. His older sister was nearing forty, but she hadn’t married. They sat on the balcony of a mansion hidden away in the country side near the Alps. It was a getaway location away from the mundane and with large views of the beautiful landscape.
They sat on the balcony talking about current events. Itala still looked as though she were in her mid twenties, but had a mature charm about her that only older women would have. A soft air about her presence and a confidence in her movements along with her stern face when addressing others prevented anyone from standing up to her. Despite her small stature, everyone feared her and for good reason.
Itala: “The Irish are pushing on our territory again?”
Romeo: “Irish, they have a new enforcer among them. A young girl of fifteen, but she is hard to beat. You may have to be the one who fights her, but I am worried Sorella.”
Itala did not show any emotion from the words Romeo spoke to her. Instead she continued to look at him fondly as her only baby brother.
Itala: “If she needs to be beaten we can handle her, but you should try and be diplomatic with their boss instead. The Irish will only come here far away from home if they want something, but as long as both sides can profit then there is no need to go through an expensive war, a Contract Duel if terms are acceptable for losses may even be preferable. When you go to negotiate, ask for help from Dragon since he is an ally of the families. Dragon plans to return home soon along with Jade, so it is best to use their time here wisely before that happens. Opportunities pass if you don’t take them. ”
Romeo listened to her words. He had been the head of the Cirillo family for several years now but he still sought advice from his older sister often. Romeo didn’t have the sureness of himself in his mid twenties and wondered how his sister was able to do so much when she was his age.
Itala’s current age and life situation made Romeo feel shame in how she had to live her life for him and their family. In order to continue the family, he would also have to have a child of Italian descent, preferably a male. While females could lead, it was tradition that the head would be a man with the made men around and supporting him.
Romeo: “Dragon… he doesn’t really like me.”
Itala: “That is because his sister likes you and she is not supposed to like you. Family tradition among the triads means Chinese stock is required. They don’t want outsiders in the family. Keep your behavior proper and even if he does not like you it will not matter.”
Romeo didn’t react to Italy’s words. It was the same thing she had said over and over again. Lingering feelings had no place in the world of organized crime. There were those that were liked and respected as friends. There was also a code of honor among longtime friends, but there was no precedence for romance among the higher ups.
Love and romance often brought the downfall of those who lived doing unscrupulous things. Kidnap someone and the family was easily controlled. That was why family was more important than romance, and romantic partners must be dropped when it interferes with the interests of the family.
Romeo: “I understand sorella.”
A day later Romeo traveled alone with multiple guards to the meeting point with Dragon and Jade. They had several businesses that were run in conjunction with the Ocean Dragons, most of their bases were near the ports where the triads had established naval supremacy in the underworld for many years. Even governments envied their ability to use boats and sea bound aircraft.
The meeting place was a room in a small bar on the South of a port town where the Irish Mob was establishing presence. They had been snooping around the area with an unknown purpose, and were ruining some of the profitable establishments.
Romeo walked into the bar with the intimidating guards around him that prevented anyone from approaching him. One of his guards was a fighter that was tough beyond human limitations. Such people were rare, and the governments had most of them. Guns and bullets could still kill them but their reflexes made them harder to hit. In a fight, these special people were difficult to win against unless they had those special abilities as well. Unfortunately such people were rare and required an unknown talent to become a higher echelon fighter.
In the room of their meeting place, Dragon and Jade sat down with food with several of their own henchmen. Romeo instantly felt intimidated by Dragon, but forced himself to sit down calmly. Jade had a warmer presence towards him. Over the nine years they had worked together she had considered him a friend and they were close.
Dragon did not like the sense of closeness those two shared and gave off a hostile attitude towards Romeo. He never allowed the two to be alone when he considered his father’s words, and when he communicated with his father he was told the as the head of the family he needed to do what he could to keep them in line. This was their last job, and because it was their last few days in Italy, Dragon had a sense of ease. Dragon did not like Italy and did not like the post his father gave him nine years ago where he was put in charge of the Ocean Dragon’s European operations.
Eating he looked over to Romeo with a slightly mocking scowl.
Dragon: “You’re late as usual. Sit down and eat.”
Romeo sat down as food was brought to him.
Dragon: “I’m only polite to you because of your sister. Not because of you. You have good fighters in your family, but if we wanted to crush you we still can.”
Jade: “Brother enough with the threats. If he is our ally we should treat him as one.”
Dragon: “We’re only his ally because of Itala, not because of his abilities. Without Itala the Cirillo family is nothing.”
Several of Romeo’s body guards grew angry and were going to speak but Romeo lifted up his hand quickly and decisively. He stopped himself from trembling and glared back at Dragon. Romeo had grown used to Dragon’s verbal jabs, but he understood the hierarchy in the underworld. The Cirillo family had benefited a lot from the alliance regardless of his own personal feelings. As such, Romeo didn’t argue as he felt it was a fair trade off to become the most powerful family in Italy, and perhaps the most powerful crime organization in Europe.
Romeo: “Let’s get to the point. The Irish mob is interrupting our businesses. There is a fighter among them called Nelliel. They say she has led several attacks on businesses and she is difficult to stop in combat.”
Dragon: “I’ll handle her, or Jade will. She isn’t at our level yet.”

Romeo: “I would be grateful but I would prefer a more diplomatic solution.”
Dragon: “There is no need for diplomacy if we are the superior force and fighters. Diplomacy only gets the way and it is better to crush them completely.”
Romeo: “If we just try to be diplomatic then perhaps—“
Dragon: “No, this is my last job. Our last job before the both of us return to father. We will crush the fighter, crush the mob then return.”
There was a fierce scowl over Dragon’s face as he spoke those words. Dragon then looked over everyone in the room.
Dragon: “We are having a showdown tonight at the docks for a Contract Duel. I’ll crush this Nelliel.”
A Contract Duel between gangs of the underworld prevented crippling losses that a full out war would bring, however there would need to be an agreement and a contract where they would fight and the results would give them an agreement of what would happen next. Breaking such a contract would cause the rest of the underworld to know of a bad reputation, and so it was sacrilegious to do so.
A full out war was always an option, but only if there is no Contract Duel that could be agreed upon. Contract Duels normally occurred when two organizations were close to being equal in strength, and so it was rare for the Ocean Dragons to allow one. As such, the Irish mob accepted.
Romeo: “When do we leave.”
Dragon: “In three hours. Be quiet during that time as I focus on digesting my meal and concentrating.”
Jade: “Brother please don’t continue the rudeness to our ally.”
Dragon: “I’ll continue being rude until he shows his worth.”
Dragon left and went to a private room where he shut out from the rest of the others. Quietly he concentrated on his body and the inner energy he had flowing. A martial artist does not just use their physical body but the mental as well in this world. Jade went to her own room to concentrate. Her job in such a match was to keep watch over the fight and prevent anything from happening. She wanted to spend time with Romeo but she understood the importance of her duty.
While the twin brother and sister went to work, Romeo did what he was taught by his sister. He looked over the maps, the plans and the many other things that gave him information about the location they were going to meet. Romeo read the information about Nelliel, the young Irish girl who was causing a lot of problems for some of the outposts further north in Europe.
They called her a red haired devil because many said her strength was unnatural even for those with a fighter talent, but the closest person to him also had unnatural monstrous strength. It was strength that Romeo himself nor his parents understood.
Among Romeo’s body guards was a young man in his late twenties that underwent heavy training as a prize fighter and a boxer. This man newest of the Made Men in the Cirillo family and his name was Dino. He was also classified as someone with the fighter talent.
Dino was a tall and lanky man who wore a large brown Italian suit, but the muscles bulged out from underneath. He stood well over six and a half feet tall, closer to seven. Romeo looked up to him and always found it astounding that he was only the second strongest person in the Cirillo family. Regardless of his actual strength he was only about equal to Dragon.
Romeo: “Dino, may I ask a favor?”
Dino: “What is it Don Cirillo?”
Romeo: “If things go wrong in the tournament can you protect Jade instead me?”
Dino looked at the young master who had the title of Don.
Dino: “Don Cirillo, even if you have the title in name I have to listen to your sister first.”
Romeo shook his head at the response. Itala was still the most powerful person in their family.
