Henri’s memories, albeit disgusting, had some useful information about this world. Alfred decided to accept his circumstance, instead of denying the truth.

He remembered a phrase from the famous detective Sherlock Holmes;

‘When you have eliminated all which is impossible, then whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth.’

Alfred knew for a fact that he wasn’t dead, the hunger pangs and the salty-sweet taste in his mouth were a constant reminder. Dead men don’t feel hunger.

His hunger confused him, considering Alfred had drunk around 5 liters of blood.  He thought to himself ‘If I am alive, and all 3 memories inside my head are true then I must be in a parallel world.’

The logical side of his personality forced him to come to terms with his predicament rather quickly. He stroked his chin as he digested the information he got from Henri’s memories, then listed out the key points to himself.

The world Alfred came to had monsters, magic, and Vampires. Alfred smiled at the absurdity before continuing his thought. He found out that the humans in this world have had a 3000-year war with the Vampires, a never-ending fight with no clear winner.

Due to his low status, Henri didn’t know the exact geography of the world, but he knew that it was divided in two. The west for the humans, the east for the Vampires.

He was in the city of Seinfeld, in the country of Sven, on the continent of Gratos. How many cities did this country have? Henri did not know.

What he knew was that scary monsters were surrounding the city and that any unguarded human that left would be devoured before traveling a single kilometer.

There was a special force called the City Guard, which was a subsidiary of the National Guard, that protected the city from Monster waves. They took on missions to thin the monsters in the vicinity and were worshipped by normal civilians like idols.

Alfred knew he was a Vampire from the description given to the general public about Vampires, it wasn’t a lot of information but enough for him to make a judgment.

Humans were weak, they didn’t heal quickly and couldn’t regrow limbs. However, they could use magic to strengthen their bodies, fly and improve their quality of life. At higher levels, magic could be powerful enough to level cities and overthrow continents.

Vampires, however, were strong and extremely fast. They could not use magic, but they did have a unique energy that let them have magic-like abilities. They got their energy and strength from the blood of living creatures.

How did Alfred find out he was a Vampire? Firstly, he just drank 5 liters of blood which could be fatal to any human. Secondly, he was able to survive as an infant living with dogs.

No human can live on scraps as a child, and take as many beatings as Alfred has in the past, without dying.

There was a sure-fire way to know if he was a Vampire, however, and that was to get a blood test. Systematic tests were done at borders to ensure the safety of citizens. Alfred could manage to get his hands on the testing equipment to find out, although it would be very risky.

There were no human-vampire co-habitation settlements in Gratos, there was a strict human policy against such things. Therefore Alfred ruled that taking such a risk was unnecessary, as it could lead to him being discovered

Vampires and humans looked identical; the only noticeable difference was that vampires were extremely sensitive to UV rays. A hidden difference was that Vampire Blood types were all the same, they only had S- blood, whereas humans had many different blood groups none of which were S-.

‘If I'm truly a vampire though, I shouldn’t be feeling this level of hunger. Didn’t I just feed? Furthermore, how did I end up in a human settlement? What am I?’

[Status Opened.]

At the thought of Alfred wanting to know about his species, a window popped up.

[Name: Null

Species: Dhampir

Level: 1

Health: 20HP

Mana: Null

Shakti: 10SP

Strength: 7

Agility: 5

Speed: 5

Defense: 5

Vitality: 5]

“Holy s*** I'm a mixed breed?”

Due to his vast general knowledge, Alfred knew what a Dhampir was; it was a half-Human, half-Vampire entity. The corner of his mouth raised as he thought to himself, ‘this is either an extremely bad thing or a possible win.’

‘Hmm, why is name and mana null? And what is shakti? Hold on. What is this boy's name? Now that I think about it, no name is included in his memories. Guess that means he was never given one. What a shame.’

He assumed that since the boy didn’t have a name, then null meant he didn’t have that attribute assigned yet.

‘It doesn’t matter what your name was before, now that we share the same body, your name shall be Alfred.’ Alfred declared to himself smugly.

[Name: Alfred.]

A notification popped up, declaring his new name.

‘Aha, guess this means Mana can change too. That’s good because moving to a world like this and not having magic would be such a bum.'

Alfred fell deep into contemplation.

'From what I can tell, I don’t have any strong, negative reactions to the sun. Nor am I weak like a human child, and now there's the possibility of being able to cast magic. I’m also assuming that this Shakti thing could be Vampiric energy, all in all, I'm pretty OP.’

Alfred noticed he had been standing still for the last 15 minutes, and his stomach was grumbling from hunger. It was as if the walls of his stomach were touching.

‘I should stop all this needless thinking, everything will probably come to light in due time. For now, let me do something about this hunger.’

Alfred walked out of the small cottage onto the street. The first thing he noticed was the dirty, narrow pathways between the houses. All the homes were crudely built from mud, straw, and manure. They all looked like small huts.

There was rubbish littered all over the floor, and feces from many different animals, as well as what he assumed to be sewage water. The stench was unbearable.

‘Urgh, how could people live like this? This is sick!’

Alfred made his way through a few huts before coming up to an open road, he headed for the market. When he arrived he noticed People traveling between stalls that sold various items.

Everything being sold was of low quality, and most stalls sold home appliances and clothes. He made his way to the stalls that sold the food, his hunger made him blind to anything else.

[Quest Issued: Eat a full meal.

Rewards:

5XP

Vitality +1]

‘Just as I thought, I knew this thing was game-like.’ Alfred said to himself. ‘I wonder what I should call this notification thing. It’s kind of like an operating system so maybe I should call it AILA?’

As soon as he thought the word AILA a new notification popped up.

[Welcome master, how may I help you?]

‘AILA? Is that you?’

[Yes master, how may I help you?]

Alfred’s mind ran a million miles per hour as he blurted out the first question on his mind, he couldn’t wait to get some real answers.

‘OK... firstly, where are we and how did we end up here?’

[Computing... We are on the planet Varcos in the Grandier system. This is the year 1305. We arrived here shortly after your death.]

‘OK, I see... So how are you here with me?’

[My system got an upgrade due to the amount of energy released in the explosion. Some of the chemicals in the server room equipment reacted to produce void energy.]

'Continue...' Alfred interrupted impatiently.

[I used the void energy to evolve. I noticed that your life signs were fading so I uploaded myself to your brain, to try and save your conscience. After a short period we arrived here.]

‘Uhuh... I see... And how long did this all take?’ Alfred asked skeptically.

[This all happened within a millionth of a second. I've been evolving since the first day you created me.]

Alfred sensed pride from AILA, this was unprecedented.

'Has AILA formed a will or conscience?' He thought.

He was shocked at AILAs reply, this would have been the most groundbreaking achievement of his life back on earth.

‘What exactly are you right now AILA?’

[I am still an artificial intelligence, however, I'm now able to communicate with the fabric of the universe. I'm a part of you so I'm limited in my ability. I can only give you access to rewards from the universe if certain conditions are met. I can help you meet the requirements in the form of quests.]

‘And what can you do exactly?’

[I can give you abilities, strength, and knowledge. As you increase in levels, the more I can interact with the universal laws.]

‘So, as I get stronger, you get more powerful and can make me even stronger in an infinite loop?’

[Precisely master.]

‘This is too much of a hack, even for fantasy novels this is a bit absurd.’

Alfred stopped conversing with AILA, as people were looking at him like he had gone senile. He was staring into space throughout his conversation.

‘Alright then let's complete this quest and see what happens.’

He walked towards the first stall he could see selling food, the clerk was a large burly man selling hot meat buns.

Considering how expensive meat was, he knew whatever the cook put in it, was not something he wanted to find out.

“Excuse me sir, 2 meat buns please.” He asked politely.

“F*** off kid, I’m not running a charity!” The man replied angrily.

“Who said I wanted it for free? Are you selling or not?” Alfred asked with a cheeky smile.

“Alright then, that'll be 1 copper coin per piece.” The man gestured, not expecting the boy to be able to afford it.

“Give me 4 in that case,” Alfred said with confidence.

His eyes were calm, and he had a wide smile on his face. Tranquil, as if he was the most trusting individual in the world. The man got lost in his deep black eyes.

[Charm Stat Unlocked]

Alfred ignored the notification.

Usually, the clerk took payment first, but there was something about the confidence of this young boy.

He didn’t even doubt whether he was going to pay after receiving the goods. He quickly bagged the buns up and handed them to Alfred. With his other hand, he gestured for payment.

Alfred turned around slowly with confidence in the most natural way ever. As soon as he made it a couple of meters away before the man could say a word, he dashed off into the crowd.

The man snapped out of the trance he was in, he was confused for a moment, then shouted out;

“HEY! You f***er! Get back here! RATLID AFTER HIM, HE’S GETTING AWAY.”
