It has been a few hour since Kai began trailing some of the main characters.

He had figured a few things about his new body with the time he had since he everything seemed slow.

He could sort of toggle his ‘super speed’ or time slowing powers whenever he thought of running or began to. His speed didn’t seem to affect the chaos emeralds energies which was a major plus.

Though he would start to feel exhausted after using it for 10 minutes straight. Either way he could cross a large distance within that time which seemed like just seconds outside his viewpoint. He called this his, Speed State.

Another bonus was the fact that his body was superhuman. He had already caught up to Rei and Takashi just a few moments after they drove off.

He also saw a few zombies as they zoomed by and decided to try something. He needed to find a way to kill them, which would be his first time to anyways.

The man back there was a crazy psycho so Kai didn’t feel as guilty and he wasn’t even the most that dealt the finishing blow.

The main threat was the zombies which could infect him with their virus. Zombie logic was that destroying their heads would kill them while any other body part just fazed them.

He went over to one of the zombies who seemed still for him. Kai pulled his hand back and punched at the zombie’s head with all his strength.

His fist went right through the head of the zombie as it splattered in slow motion. Kai barely felt any sort of resistance when he struck its head which also showed his incredible strength or durability.

Oddly, he didn’t seem to feel any sort of remorse for the undead as he shook the blood off his hand.

‘One punch is enough to kill them.’ He said in a disgusted tone. ‘I didn’t as guilty as I thought I would.’

Even if it was dead, it still use to be a human. But Kai didn’t feel a single shred of guilt when killing it.

He turned his head and saw some more zombies on the sidewalk. He could still see Takashi and Rei so he decided to kill some more zombies.

There was a reason why he was following the protagonists. Mostly because they cannot die unless that was their fate and this particular group had the most insane amounts of plot armor.

They could literally defy physics with the power of fan service and plot armor. He didn’t watch the entire plot of the anime so he only knew bits of it but he knew that almost all protagonists were still alive. Staying near their side could help him insert himself into the plot.

But right now, Kai was pummeling the zombies as their blood splattered on his body and jacket which was still wrapped around his waist.

He needed some new clothing as well, and one of the male zombies still had clothing in good condition.

‘Thank you for the clothing.’ He stripped the zombie and took all of its clothing. It was a bit tight but it was better than wearing a singular jacket.

Throughout the night, Kai had eliminated a multitude of zombies while taking short breaks because of the overuse of his super speed. He would have a few breaks with each lasting around the same amount of time he was able to use his super speed.

This didn’t mean he was powerless while resting. Again, his body was supercharged with incredible strength and durability! He tested it once by picking up a zombie and throwing it. It flew an entire 5 meters before crashing into the ground.

Kai was confident in his strength and durability since right after throwing the zombie he punched himself in the guts. His body tanked the attack however, there was a stinging pain.

Now that he had experimented with his physique, he decided to follow the protagonists.

They didn’t seem to notice him throughout the entire trip with them being too focused on the road.

They had ventured across the entire city and saw a bridge in the distance. Near the bridge was a cluster of zombies as numerous lights and sounds shot out.

Kai could see that some survivors and police officers were currently guarding the bridge. Behind them were a crowd of people trying to get to the other side with terrified screams.

‘Damn there are a lot here!’ Kai was watching in his speed state. He ran up to one and blew its head off with a single punch. He was going to remove all the zombies as efficiently as he could.

Each punch took out a single zombie and Kai felt no feelings of regret. Considering them as humans or a form of life that should be preserved was the same as letting death stay in your house.

It wasn’t long before he had managed to destroy the heads of every zombie in the herd. For him it was about a minute or do and he turned off his speed state.

POW

In what seemed to be instantaneous, the heads of the zombies disappeared in unison with their splattered remains on the ground. Each zombie fell as the police officers watched with shock.

“What the hell!” An officer cursed, both with happiness and horror. All of them were still in a defensive pose, expecting something bad to happen, yet nothing did. The zombies were dead, completely dead. They only saw a faint blur before the heads of the zombies popped like bubbles.

The police officers lowered their guards with some crying in joy. Their duty to protect civilians was an honor in which they had to be brave. Yet, the zombies before them were something they still feared. They just wanted to be in safety with their families.

“Make sure the civilians are safe first!” The police chief in their group shouted to the tired officers. “We better move fast or else more of them will come!”

Kai watched from the other side of the bridge as the civilians were still rushing towards ‘safety’. His body was slightly exhausted using a minute’s worth of his speed state.

His hands were stained with some blood though which he started at. The coldness of it, almost screaming at him with pain.

He gently shook it off while trying to restrain any bitter memories. He was trying to keep his focus and not let his emotions pour back in like before.

God knows how long he spent crying while he was given a second chance.

“Alrighty then,” Kai turned to the large city. The sun was starting to rise in the distance and people started to crowd to safer spots. “I should find those people now.”

He faintly remembered them, and they should stand out quite well. A sadistic samurai, a chubby gun otaku, smart tsundere, an onee-san nurse, and the other two. They were already back there and are probably approaching the other side of the city by now.

Still, there were potentially thousands of survivors crossing over so security has to be tight. With the exception of him just going pass them all, everyone else will need to be checked.

Vehicles were still in operation so they could be used which could be seen by the numerous cars coming by. In the distance, there will still be cars incoming with the officers checking them.

“I think they’re on some sort of bus... Shit.” Kai cursed silently, it might take some time to find them.

...

(Takashi POV)

We were approaching the bridge to get to the other side of the city. Rei and I were fully focused on doing so but I was still bewildered by something.

Earlier, I was looking through a gas station for money. The gas pump requires money to pump gas which we needed for the motorcycle.

I smashed the register and started collecting the money, but then I was startled by a strange man.

He was handsome but only showing his head just around the corner. He looked to be around my age was didn’t seem to be clothed at all.

The strange man asked me if he could borrow some clothes. I was still suspicious of him, gripping my bat tightly waiting for any sudden movements.

However, I decided to lend him my jacket, my remaining humanity asking me to. The man thanked me as he caught it but I was still on guard.

Until I heard a shout coming from outside, it was Rei. I immediately went outside and was greeted by a crazy guy holding Rei hostage.

There wasn’t much I could do currently because doing anything too suddenly would make the man kill her.

Thinking of a strategy, I slowly started asking some questions to the guy as he was continuously subtly more deranged.

At one point, I began to pump the gas into the motorcycle while maintaining eye contact with the guy. A single opening was all I needed to use my secret weapon on him.

But suddenly! A blur shot across from the side as Rei and the guy separated from each other in a flash! Rei fell on her bottom as the guy was stumbling.

The guy caught himself and all of us were in shock by who it was. I recognized him as the strange man from earlier who asked for some clothing. He wrapped the jacket around his waist while the rest of his body was exposed.

The guy went batshit insane and charged toward the strange man in an attempt to stab him. But the strange man just pulled his fist back and shot it toward the guy.

The guy was sent flying across the street from the single punch, leaving us all in shock.

Though I quickly started to realize that the commotion we caused attached the attention of the zombies. They were already trying to eat the guy as he was their closest target and we were going to be next!

Calling Rei over, we hopped on the motorcycle and darted off. I gave one last glance to the strange man who seemed oddly calm. I don’t know what his intentions were but he didn’t seem to harm or try to stop us.

During the ride to the bridge, Rei asked me a question.

“Takashi... Do you know that guy?” She asked me after we had some moments of silence.

I replied, “I saw him inside the gas station earlier. He wasn’t wearing any clothing so I ended him my jacket.”

“... But, what is he?” She said in a wathat I couldn’t interpret.

“Huh?” Replying, in a more confusing way.

“When I looked him in the eyes,” Rei said in a somewhat shivering tone. “I felt a weird chill. Nothing like the ‘them’, but it just felt like he was different.”

Rei continued her concerns, “He was also super fast! He suddenly pushed me and the other guy away from each other and punched the guy across the street! Humans can’t do that Takashi!”

She sounded somewhat frightened, I could somewhat understand what she was worried about. A random man with impossible speed and strength, if I hadn’t seen it with my own two eyes then I wouldn’t have believed it. Even in this new, messed-up world.

Just who was that man, and what was he?
