After a moment of shock, Su Xiaonai answered truthfully,
“Yes.”
The old lady secretly opened an eye. Knowing her plan had succeeded, a smile flashed across her eyes.
Still, she pretended to be weak.
“Xiaonai, please help me over. I want to rest.”
Su Xiaonai nodded and helped the old lady to the guest room. After tucking her in, she left quietly.
Looking at the man who was deep in thought on the couch, Su Xiaonai felt a tinge of sympathy. His grandmother could be hard to deal with.
For the first time, Su Xiaonai wanted to comfort Qi Lingyan, but before she could say anything, he interrupted her thoughts.
Qi Lingyan stared at Su Xiaonai coldly, as if he had seen through her. His lips curled up in disdain.
“Isn’t that what you wanted?”
Hearing this, Su Xiaonai exclaimed,
“Excuse me!?”
Su Xiaonai was baffled how Qi Lingyan reached this conclusion. Qi Lingyan, on the other hand, hated how Su Xiaonai pretended to not understand.
He thought he knew exactly what Su Xiaonai was after.
“Aren’t you just trying to hook up with the Qi Corporation? You deliberately set my grandma up.”
Su Xiaonai was at a loss for words. The sympathy she felt earlier was instantly gone, and she retorted back without mercy.
“How are you this arrogant? What’s in it for me to claim connections with the Qi Corporation?”
It was the first time Qi Lingyan had heard someone call him arrogant. His lips opened slightly in surprise then closed again, as anger rose up in him.
“What did you just say?”
Su Xiaonai sneered, “You started it, Mr. Qi.”
Qi Lingyan stood up and approached Su Xiaonai. Although she was shrouded in the shadow of Qi Lingyan’s body, she didn’t show a trace of fear.
She didn’t back away or look scared.
Between them, the atmosphere was tense as their argument came to a stalemate. Just then, Su Mubai came out of the kitchen and was surprised to see Qi Lingyan here.
She wasn’t the over-cautious type, and she didn’t notice the tension in the room at all. She ran to Qi Lingyan.
Her fair hand tugged at the corner of Qi Lingyan’s shirt.
“Mister, you’ve misunderstood Mommy.”
Qi Lingyan was on the verge of losing his temper, but as he registered the familiar little face his rage was extinguished.
His tone turned gentle, a dramatic shift from how he had talked to Su Xiaonai a few minutes ago.
“Why are you here?”
With her eyes wide, Su Mubai explained,
“Because my mommy is here.”
Qi Lingyan frowned as his eyes darted between Su Xiaonai and Su Mubai. He thought for a while before speaking.
“You said I’d misunderstand your mommy. Why did you say that?”
So Su Mubai told him about everything that happened.
Only then did Qi Lingyan know that it was his grandmother who made the visit without prior notice. Of course, he believed what Su Mubai had said.
He picked the little girl up and relaxed his eyebrows, apologizing for the misunderstanding.
“I misunderstood. I’m sorry about that.”
Su Mubai nodded in satisfaction, but Su Xiaonai frowned. Why was Qi Lingyan so ready to apologize to her daughter?
What about her?
Of course, Qi Lingyan knew it was Su Xiaonai that he had misunderstood, but admitting his mistake would hurt his pride.
He wanted to talk some more with Su Mubai, but before he opened his mouth, she was snatched away.
Su Xiaonai snorted and grabbed Su Mubai. Then, she turned around and pulled Su Mubei back to their own rooms.
Then, she walked to the living room alone and faced Qi Lingyan, who was still standing on the same spot.
“Good Ol’ Mister Qi, do as you please. If you have to leave, please remember to close the door behind you.”
As soon as she finished speaking, Su Xiaonai closed the door to the master bedroom, leaving Qi Lingyan alone in the living room.
Qi Lingyan blinked, obviously still in a daze. When he came back to his senses, he remembered what Su Xiaonai called him.
Was he really that old?
Qi Lingyan took a deep breath to calm himself down.
I can’t fall for that woman’s trap. She just wants my attention right now, to make me mad so I would remember her.
Qi Lingyan snorted to himself.
All of a sudden, his phone rang. The caller ID told him it was his assistant Mr. Yuan.
“Hey, what’s up?”
Hearing his boss’s voice, Mr. Yuan let out a breath of relief.
“Boss, do you want us to come up?”
Qi Lingyan answered, “No need. We’re not taking Grandmother back tonight. We’ll have to come back tomorrow.”
The assistant did not raise any objections, only replied respectfully, “Right, boss.”
The air suddenly became quiet. Mr. Yuan was the first to break the silence.
“Boss, when are you coming down?”
Qi Lingyan didn’t answer immediately. He thought for a moment and then replied,
“Just a moment, you guys wait for me downstairs.”
“Okay.”
After Qi Lingyan hung up the phone, he looked around the living room until his eyes stopped at a photo.
He picked up the photo frame. It was a photo of Su Xiaonai and two children.
The kids in the photo seemed to be less than one year old.
Qi Lingyan’s thumb gently brushed across the faces in the photo. He was puzzled. Why did Su Xiaonai’s two children look so much like a younger him?
The similarity was striking.
It seemed suspicious.
Immediately, he took out his phone and called Mr. Yuan.
“Go investigate Su Xiaonai’s kids and find out who their father is.”
Mr. Yuan was puzzled at this request. He didn’t know the reason behind it, but he didn’t say anything. Curiosity killed the cat, that Mr. Yuan knew. He didn’t want to cause problems.
“Yes, sir.”
Qi Lingyan was about to hang up when Mr. Yuan spoke again.
“Um, wait a minute, boss.”
“Yes?”
Mr. Yuan told his boss what he had seen earlier as he waited in the car.
“I just saw Miss Su’s stepsister entering the apartment complex. From the looks of it, she is heading towards the ninth building, which is where you are.”
Qi Lingyan frowned and his right eyelid twitched. Considering that as a bad omen, he put on his shoes and left the apartment immediately.
Ding! The elevator door opened and a woman walked out. Staring right into Qi Lingyan was Su Xiaonai’s stepsister, Su Jiaojiao.
What is she doing here?
Qi Lingyan walked over in big steps, his coldness caused the temperature to drop a little.
He questioned out loud.

“Why are you here?”
Su Jiaojiao hadn’t expected to see Qi Lingyan here at her stepsister’s apartment. She secretly cursed her bad luck, not knowing what to do about it.
“Oh, uh, haha, Mr. Qi, I’m here for my sister.”
Qi Lingyan let out a cold scoff as he dismissed her.
