”Hi,” Sun Fang said to his phone. He smiled, tried to project cheerfulness and somberness at the same time, and continued, ”It’s Sun Fang. I know it’s been a while since we spoke, but I wondered if you wanted to meet up somewhere and talk?” The last sentence was turned into a question by his hesitance and he scowled a bit to himself.

He truly didn’t know how he should speak to Mo Cheng though, now that they’d broken up. And the fact that he was simply leaving a message didn’t make it any easier.

They hadn’t had any contact since the breakup and Sun Fang didn’t know what that meant. Did Mo Cheng want no contact at all with him? Did he not want to be friends with Sun Fang? Did he need space? Was Sun Fang bothering him? Was Sun Fang supposed to leave him alone until Mo Cheng contacted him?

So eventually, he'd decided to just ask. Mo Cheng would either tell him to leave him alone or not. There wasn’t really middle in there.

Sighing, Sun Fang ended the call and dropped his phone on the coffee table as he passed by. Walking over to the balcony’s do or, he stared out the window at the rain rushing like a waterfall from the sky. It hit the balcony’s wood like stones, bouncing before it fell back down to the ground. Loudly, too, it hit the windows and caused a roar to echo throughout the apartment.

Shaking his head, Sun Fang turned away from the window and walked back to the couch. He flopped down on it, bouncing slightly on the soft mattress, and started up the TV. Ivy was dusting the living room and asked, ”Not going outside now that it’s finally raining?”

”No,” Sun Fang grumbled. He sank deeper against the backrest and tapped his fingers on the couch’s armrest. Throwing Ivy an errant glance, he said dramatically, ”The rain would wash me away.”

Ivy continued to clean, not even looking at him as it said, ”I thought you have been waiting for weather like this.”

Sun Fang scrunched up his nose and didn’t say anything. He switched the channel on the TV, pleased to note that there was some kind of reality show on. He settled in more comfortably on the couch, scooting around a little and pulling a blanket up over his bare legs. He hadn’t bothered to change out of his pajamas this morning, and so he was a little cold now. And it would be too much effort to his bedroom to collect warmer clothes.

But all the blankets he owned were topnotch quality; soft as sin and just as warm. Sun Fang had no regrets.

After about an hour, the rain began to abate. At that time, Sun Fang was so invested in the show he was watching that he failed to notice. It was not until Ivy cleared its throat unnecessarily pointed to the window when Sun Fang looked over that he realized the amount of time that had passed. But it was really a very good show! The idol candidates were all super cute!

He shook his head at Ivy, indicating that he wanted to remain inside. Ivy nodded and went back to cleaning (having moved to the hallway a while back). Sun Fang stared after it as it left, then turned back to the TV when somebody began to sing.

To be fair, the singing was beautiful. This guy really had talent.

Eventually, the show ended. Sun Fang spent about four seconds contemplating if he wanted to watch anything else before he decided otherwise, turned off the TV and left the living room. He had balance himself against the couch for a second, his legs having turned to jelly from sitting so still. Brushing his hair out of his face, he began to braid it as he left to search for his butler.

”Ivy?” he called into the hallway, glancing around. He couldn’t see a single spot of dirt, so he simply followed the hallway to the nearest bathroom. As expected, Ivy was in there cleaning. ”Do you have time?” Sun Fang asked, leaning against the doorframe and observing.

Ivy answered, ”Always, Young Master.”

Sun Fang smiled, his lips twitching. ”You know you don’t have to keep calling me Young Master. You’re on my payroll now, not my family’s.”

”I know,” Ivy said.

Sun Fang waited a bit but no other words came. He cleared his throat and looked away from Ivy. ”Mianmian is coming on Thursday. He’ll be landing at four am, can you pick him up for me?”

”Certainly.”

”Thank you,” Sun Fang said. He pursed his lips as he tried to think of something else to say, something to break the uncomfortable silence. He didn’t know why it was uncomfortable, but it was. He wanted it to stop; nothing with Ivy should ever be uncomfortable. ”I left Mo Cheng a message, so hopefully he’ll get back to me. I don’t really know how it’s gonna go, though.”

Ivy finished cleaning the counter and turned to face Sun Fang. ”I’m sure it will be fine. Mo Cheng knows you’re an amazing person, just like I do.”

Heat rose on Sun Fang’s cheeks, and he glanced at the floor. Clearing his throat and coughing softly, he straightened up and pushed his braid over his shoulder. ”Well, if it doesn’t go well, I will expect ice-cream and a movie marathon.” Narrowing his eyes, he threatened, ”You’d better actually join me instead of just drifting around in the background.”

”I promise,” Ivy said. It picked up the cleaning bucket and poured out the water in the sink. Sun Fang eyed it discreetly, the water rushing and swooshing around in the marble sink. He grimaced a little; he didn’t entirely like Ivy doing that in the bathroom.

”Glad we have that settled,” Sun Fang said, sniffing condescendingly. Then he smiled, turning on his heel in an elegant spin, and walked away. He hummed under his breath as he went, an old melody stuck in his head.
