Mo Cheng texted the next day. It was just a short message asking if Sun Fang was doing well, and assuring him that Mo Cheng would have nothing against meeting him if Sun Fang had a time in mind? Sun Fang bit his lip as he responded that he had nothing but time and Mo Cheng simply had to pick one that worked for him and Sun Fang would be there. Somewhere. They hadn’t really settled on where they would meet up yet.

He threw the phone away while he waited for the response, nerves beginning to sizzle under his skin. He paced back and forward in the hallway, sighing and pulling his hands through his loose hair. Finally, he groaned and stalked out to the balcony.

Yesterday’s rain shower appeared to have been a one-time thing. There was not a cloud in the sky today, not a single hint of rain in the air. Sun Fang began to pace in the balcony before stopping abruptly when he realized that he couldn’t hear the phone ringing from out here. ”Shit…” Sun Fang pressed his hands over his face and groaned loudly again.

”That’s it,” he mumbled into his hands. ”I need to go out. Maybe shopping?” he muttered to himself, standing up straight and showing his hands in his pockets. He sighed.

He was really getting sick of this feeling; of not knowing what to do with himself.

Sun Fang stalked back to the living and retrieved his phone. It was nearly fully charged, so he quickly visited the bathroom, changed into more appropriate clothes to wear outside, and left the apartment with a wave to Ivy. Ivy called a taxi to meet him at the apartment’s front entrance, and so Sun Fang was away.

He leaned his head against the window in the car, idly watching the view rushing passed. It had been a long time since he’d used a taxi, what with Ivy being so diligent, but it was not a strange feeling.

”Thanks for the ride,” Sun Fang said as he stepped out of the car some minutes later. It drove off without him and he took a deep breath as he turned to the entrance of the shopping district. There were mutable open doors in the transparent dome, huge ones standing wide open. Sun Fang waved at the familiar security guard when he entered. The guard smiled at him.

”Let’s see,” Sun Fang muttered. He placed a hand on his chin and stroked it while he thought, his eyes narrowing. Humming to himself, he continued to mutter, ”I think I’ll start off with the newest clothing store, see what they have. And then I’ll end the day with a proper massage.” Pleased, he nodded to himself. It had been far too long since he’d gotten a massage.

He texted the plans to Ivy so it’d know he’d be a while, and got started.

The new clothing store was not only a new store, it was also an entirely new brand. From what he’d seen online, it was marketing itself as particularly eco and worker friendly. Something about paying every single employee a living wage. And also something about using sustainable materials that would last for decades with minimal wear and tear.

They were really going all out on the promises, huh.

But it worked just fine because they had quite a lot of clothes that fit his taste. Lots of long, swishing skirts and gorgeous dresses. Some very pretty colors, too. Sun Fang maybe, just maybe, bought a few too many things from there.

After the clothes,  he visited a few antique stores, a shoe shop, another clothing store. For about four hours, he kind of wandered every which way. It got to the point where he had too much stuff to carry and instead had to arrange for it to be delivered to his apartment. Otherwise he feared he might drown beneath all the bags.

With his stomach helpfully growling, he decided to get something to eat before he got his massage. He hiked the bags he was still carrying further up his arms and walked slowly along the sidewalk, peeking into the windows of every restaurant he passed. His eyes widened and he smiled when he found one he liked.

”Welcome,” the server greeted him when he entered. ”Shall I take your bags?”

Sun Fang nodded, said, ”Thank you,” and handed them over. It was a pretty comical sight, the server nearly buckling beneath the sudden and unevenly distributed weight. Forcing his expression to remain blank, Sun Fang waited until the server returned to lead him to his table.

”As a first-time visitor, we’d like to offer you a complimentary drink. Is this okay?” the server asked, whipping out a notepad. The man was an alpha, large in statue and with strong bone-structure.

Sun Fang eyed him a little thoughtfully, then requested, ”No alcohol, thank you.”

The server nodded and said seriously, ”I’ll be right back.” Sun Fang didn’t watch him leave, instead pulling out his phone. It’d buzzed about an hour ago but he’d been so bogged down with bags that he couldn’t reach it and then he’d kind of just forgotten about it. Now he finally had some space to breathe, though, and so he unlocked it.

It was a message from Mo Cheng, naming a time and place.

Sun Fang exhaled softly. He slumped over the table and leaned his head on his hand, idly reading through the message a second time to make certain he didn’t misread it. But no, Mo Cheng really wanted to meet up. It seemed like he maybe had something to say to Sun Fang.

Even if it was just Mo Cheng rightfully blaming Sun Fang for wasting his time—no, a relationship was never wasting time, even if it didn’t pan out. Sometimes it went sour and sometimes it just drifted apart, but it was never a waste. Sun Fang refused to think that he’d been wasting either his own or Mo Cheng’s time.

The server returned with a sparkly drink and Sun Fang put away his phone after sending Mo Cheng a quick confirmation.
