Lee Hoon is a South Korean 16-year-old (17 in Korean years) lonely high school student experiencing rock bottom. Due to the high medical costs of his mother's hospital stay before her death, as well as the gambling debt accrued by his abusive father, Hooni is left with a crippling debt of ₩ 50,000,000 that leaves him impoverished. This, combined with the constant, severe bullying he faces at school has given him extremely low self-esteem. Due to the seemingly endless difficulties he faces, Hooni's only goal in life is to kill himself.

Unlike most teenage boys, he lives by himself renting a dead-end studio apartment within the concrete jungles of Seoul. The hardships of life such as having to survive by himself at a young age, however, has given him a sense of maturity many would've yearned to have at his age.

Due to his inherent depression mainly induced by his current situation in life, academic failure has become the daily basis for him. In the bright side though, he's made two close friends who'd understand and help him with his studies whenever they could. They'd also have lots of fun together hanging out and whatnot, giving him a light ray of hope.

One day, he coincidentally met professor Kimura, his literature teacher, in a convenience store. Little did he know, this very aleatory encounter would turn his life upside down.

"Oh man... There goes my monthly income..." Hooni mumbled to himself, while barely halfway filling his plastic shopping bag with the cheapest groceries he could find.

Kimura overheard him, and was quick to realize that Hooni's shopping list was completely out of the ordinary for a 16 year old boy, rather resembling one of a self-sufficient adult.

Hooni, partially because of his social anxiety and Kimura's innate unnerving looks, was also quick to pick up his presence in the store. Doing so wasn't really rocket science considering who he's dealing with here; anyone with two functional braincells and the sightless sense of social adequacy would be freaked out by how Kimura-sensei stares at people. Naturally, Hooni's internal monologue began to freak out.

*Fuck fuck fuck fuck.... Why out of all the people in Seoul it had to be a school teacher?! What's he gonna do?! Lecture me over my bad grades in public?! Oh man... This is the perfect formula for an awkward interaction...* Hooni thought to himself while keeping his head down, hoping he'd believe to have mistaken him for someone else.

"Hallo Hooni." Kimura exclaimed, abruptly interrupting Hooni's inner monologue, appearing behind him like a flash. Shivers went down Hooni's spine, caught by surprise due to having lost himself in his own thoughts.

He hesitantly turned back, while keeping his head down.

"O-oh h-hey Mr. Kimura! I didn't n-notice you were in here... What a c-coincidence h-huh?" Having the social skills of a AO3 user, the boy struggled to dissuade the awkward social encounter. Luckily for him, Kimura was the type of person to lack a sense of shame, so awkwardness went just past him.

He stood there with his typical extravagant expression, mouth wide open, glancing over Hooni's shopping bag items.

"Are you doing your parents' groceries?" The teacher curiously inquired, wanting to know more about his situation. A poorly dressed, dirty, exhausted-looking teenage boy packing up the grocery bag like a single 30-year-old and complaining over "monthly income" wasn't something you'd see everyday. Something wasn't right.

"O-oh? Oh! No, no, I live on my own..." Hooni reacted, looking away as if he were ashamed of his evident living condition.

"That doesn't sound good."

And so, Kimura's suspicions were confirmed. This situation really explained a lot of things. Any teen would be in the edge of academical failure if they had to be dealing with the raw hardships of adult life and reality such as not starving. However, seeing this much darker side of his student's life made him realize that something good could come out of it.

Hooni innocently looked at his teacher's eyes, finding a remote but persistent sense of comfort in the fact an adult was finally acknowledging his painful situation.

"There's currently an undergoing student exchange program with Japanese schools in Tokyo."

Kimura elaborated, already having plans in mind to rescue his student's life. Despite often being perceived as weird and a pervert, he was a good man.

"Even if I wanted to, students who excel with their grades are only chosen for such programs..." Hooni replied depressingly. "It's just out of my league..."

"Not necessarily."

Hooni gave him a puzzled look, still oblivious to where he was going with that.

"The program also considers students in special living conditions." Kimura argumented. "If you could prove your current situation, they might give you a chance."

"R-really...? Is that so...?!"

Hooni's eyes widened as a whole new path of opportunities unfolded before him, and a smile of hope took shape in his face. His future suddenly looked brighter, and his surroundings appeared to be more colorful. Today was his lucky day.

"I used to teach in Japan years ago, perhaps I could arrange something..." Kimura stared at the blank store's ceiling, more thoughtful than usual.

"That would be life changing to me! Thank you so much Kimura sensei!" Hooni exclaimed in joy. He could feel that all the bad things in his life vanished, atleast for a brief moment.

"Huuuh... The school I taught at has a history of admitting unusual students. One of the 3rd year classes had a 10 year old prodigy aboard... She was cute." Kimura kept on going as if he didn't notice his student's excitement, reminiscing of his old student, Chiyo-chan.

"Besides, independence is a valuable trait. You might seduce cute japanese highschool girls." Unbelievably enough, he said this with a straight face (or as straight as his can get). Although it's not that unbelievable considering this is Kimura-sensei who we're talking about here.

Hooni was sightly freaked out, but quickly moved on to focus on what matters: his brand new opportunity in a foreign country as a full-paid exchange student.

"Oh man... I miss japanese highschool girls so much...Uooooh..." He proceeded, unable to hide his fucking pedophilic side for any longer.

"Highschool girls..."

"Highschool girls..."

"Highschool girls..."

"Highschool girls..."

"Highschool girls..."

"Highschool girls..."

Kimura seemingly got himself stuck in an endless loop of his own pervertedness, repeatedly mumbling his explicit desire for underage girls, making this page resemble your search history.

"O-okay... T-take care Mr. Kimura!" Hooni attempted to come out as nice as someone who has a middle-aged man publicly expressing his attraction towards teenagers can be, and slowly stepped out the store after paying off the equivalent of over half his monthly savings.

Regardless, as weird and creepy that man might be, thanks to him his life was about to take a twist for good. And it's also thanks to this man's ability to see through his surface that this life changing opportunity was given to him. Kimura saw something in him most boys his age lack of: a strong enforced sense of independence he was forced to internalize in order to face life's hardships. Perhaps, if he got all his financial needs covered, he could pour his obtained maturity onto his studies and become an outstanding student.

Before he could realize, he was aboard a plane departing to the heart of Tokyo as part of an international student exchange program. Being able to look forward in his life for the first time in a long time, he steeled himself to face all the brand new wild experiences awaiting for him in the futuristic lands of Japan. His life was finally changing for good, and he was going to make the most of it.
