It was a dark and stormy evening, and Lee Hoon had just concluded his first day in his brand new japanese school as an exchange student. Shockingly for him, japanese schools weren't anything like pathetic weebs portrayed them on the internet. In real life and outside hentai land, the schedules were pretty tiring and studying programs supposed a real challenge. Naturally, he found himself both exhausted and wet caught by a wild storm striking the city. Nonetheless, the fact he didn't have to worry about having to make a living anymore was such a relief for him. Just thinking of it pumped up his mood.
On a side note, he's had one last surprise when the strings of his destiny became entangled with those of his long-time online friend, MMORPG partner, and now school classmate Tomoko Kuroki, alias "cockz". They were able to immediately tell each other apart because of both their painfully evident outcast auras and having exchanged pictures before, although they both assumed those were shamelessly fake.
For the sake of your braincells, their endlessly awkward and cringe first-time encounter will be omitted in the redacting of this story. Regardless, after the first shock of awkwardness that involves meeting the same person you chatted slurs with online, the uneasiness gradually faded out, becoming more comfortable with each other as the day progressed. Plus, having a history in common helped the cause.
Socially inept and often desperate, Tomoko often loses herself in various attempts to try to be more popular at her school, always failing miserably and getting herself in the worst awkward situations one could imagine.
Tomoko and Hooni decided to walk home together when they were caught by the fierce storm, and so, they found themselves forced to walk in the nearest place: a manga store. Inside, they would find a peculiar blue-haired girl nerding over the shelves. This was none other than Konata Izumi, a shameless Otaku who won't let anyone or anything stand in the way of her interests.
She's a laid back character who doesn't stress about too much, and is smart despite how lazy she is when it comes to education.
Three socially inadequate outcasts sheltered together for warmth in a manga store, waiting for the storm to cease. What could possibly go wrong?
They were all cold and wet, and their clothes were clinging to their bodies. Being the less awkward and having the most life out of the three (as crazy as that sounds), Konata was the first to break the ice.
"Sooo... what do you guys do for fun?" she asked, trying to make small talk.
"I don't really do much of anything," Lee Hoon replied dishonestly, manifesting his low self esteem and fear of being judged. "I just kind of sit around and mope..."
"H-h-hey! T-that's only partially true..." Tomoko struggled to speak, stunned by her online friend's attractiveness.
*Oh god oh god oh god! Why did he have to be so cute?! I would feel way less miserable if he turned out to be an ugly fatass!*
Despite having exchanged pictures with him before, she just assumed they were either digitally modified or just a catfish. This is a fair assumption considering how the average MMORPG player looks like.
"I m-mean, kind of. If we count p-playing MMOs all night as s-something...!" She tried to exclaim jokingly in an attempt to coat up her anxiety.
"What about you?" Konata asked, turning to Tomoko. "What do you like to do?"
"I like to stay inside and play video games," Tomoko replied. "I don't really like going outside much."
"Hah, that sounds like my kind of life." Konata said with a satisfied smirk. "I'm Konata, by the way."
"I'm Kuroki," Tomoko said. "And this is Hooni."
Tomoko and Hooni have met in an online game chat room (of course). They did arrange real life meetings here and there some times, but they were both the type of person feeling more comfortable interacting as online friends.
"It's nice to meet you both," Konata said.
"You mentioned something about a MMORPG, haven't you?" She followed up, curious.
"Oh y-yeah," Tomoko answered, expressing her notable awkwardness. "We usually play Filna Fantasy together, although I'm more of a..." She made a small pause, unsure how she'd react to the following. "Otome games... person."
"Reaally? That's so cool!" Konata exclaimed in excitement. "I love Filna Fantasy! My sensei and I are in the same guild." She said, confident.
"You are so lucky to share that kind of stuff with someone at school... specially a teacher." Hooni added to the conversation, reminiscing the bullying he constantly gets at his school back in Korea.
"I know right? She thinks I'm the coolest around!" She replied, wearing a smug expression in her face.
"It seems like I found my people..." Tomoko mumbled under her breath with that creepy smile of hers.
The three of them chatted for a while, getting to know each other better. They soon realized that they had a lot in common. They were all introverts who preferred to stay inside, and they all loved video games. They proceeded to exchange their usernames with each other, planning to play all together when they get home. However, this was no easy task for Tomoko considering what hers is like.
"Cool! Let me just write down your username." Konata asked, keeping her chill and laid back attitude.

Tomoko suddenly freezed. She was hating every millisecond of this situation she unknowningly got herself in and simultaneously hating her stupid ass for choosing such a thirsty username that yells "I'm a fucking virgin" in 10 different languages.
"O-o-oh! Yo-ou're asking for m-my username, h-huh?" She mumbled lost in her anxiety trip.
"Uhuh!" Konata affirmed happily.
"M-my username.... R-right!" Tomoko followed up, trying to make time to delay the inevitable.
Hooni looked at the situation explicitly worried, thinking whenever he should interfere and be the one who gives Konata his friend's usernames for her or not. He tried seeking for a hint of hers, but anxiety had already gotten the best of Tomoko.
Tomoko stood still, unable to attend the situation anymore. Konata looked at her with some intrigue, waiting for an answer.
The social tension between the two quickly escalated, which ended up pushing Hooni to finally interfere and save his friend from shitting herself for further humiliation.
"U-um..." Hooni mumbled, approaching the two.
"H-her username is... C-ockz... w-with a "Z"."
He explained, blushing out of shame. This wasn't nearly as close as his friend though, who kept her head down the entire time cringing in monumental ways.
"Hah... Of course you play otome games." Konata laughed it off in an attempt to light her mood up.
"Hey, it's no big deal. It's not like I don't get off at fictional hot naked men too..." She followed up with a smile, shamelessly exposing her also being a male repellent.
"Mine is Konakona, by the way."
"Y-yes... T-thank...y-you...!" Tomoko still struggled to speak, feeling like she humiliated herself. Although, the fact she also acknowledged getting off at virtual anime boys really took a weight off her back.
Eventually, the menacing storm ceased and they drifted off happily to their places, feeling like they fitted in with other people perfectly for the first time, despite the minor inconveniences.
Days passed, and their mutual love for gaming forged a solid friendship within the three. They spent most of the time grinding together. However, it also slowly took over their days without them realizing, and their grades began to plunge.

And so, they planned meeting up at Konata's place next weekend to set their priorities straight and reinforce their studies. Since they were all around the same age, their school subjects were quite alike. Little did they know, things would play off sightly different than planned.
