Everyone started to move in a specific direction whilst the king grabbed me by my shoulders, lifting me from the ground, flying upwards. Soon we could see the territory from above in its entirety. It took a while to reach above the trees; the flight had been tremendous, and my father sweated from his armpits and forehead. I could easily tell how fatigued he became, even more so by the redness that covered his face. Yet, it was something he wanted to show me, his successor. The territory I was one day fated to rule over and protect.

“This is the forest we live in which has some trees that keep the monsters from coming in.” With a more serious and threatening tone he added, “outside of it there’re many dangers, so in the future, if you decide to explore the borders of the forest take some guards with you, never alone, and that’s an order, you’re our heir!”

“Yes, father. I understand.”

Upon noticing something peculiar on the horizon, I pointed at it, “what are those tall shadows that reach out all the way to the clouds?”

“We believe that to be the end of the world, no one gets closer to it since everyone that leaves our forest dies, so it could be something else, as it is very far.”

Upon remembering the information that was locked before, I thought clearly about it.

‘That looks quite abnormal. Page 5 was it?’

Chaos Timer:

Time left for Walls to disappear:
10 Years.

Time left for chaos to begin:
15 Years.

‘I see. Not sure what these qualify for, but I have at best 10 years to take control of everyone and show them the way. However, if these are walls, then they must be keeping something dangerous. Other players perhaps?’

From what I had noticed, the people’s clothing was extremely bad. Between wearing them and being naked, one could very well ask the devil to come and pick, as the choice was equally terrible.

‘I barely saw any soldiers around me. At max I saw four guards who had wooden sticks to them... I hope I’m wrong and that this isn’t some prehistoric bullshit era.’

The king’s wings started once again flapping more aggressively, allowing him to take me back to the ground, floating downwards most of the time, as it felt like he no longer had much energy. After that, he panted for a while, finding himself in a pinch to fix his gallant posture. I patted his back softly, smiling, and thanked him in a whisper for showing me such a valuable piece of information.

It didn’t take long for us to make our way toward the party. Once we got there, I sat between my parents as those who were at the ceremony began taking seats in circled formations around us.

‘What are they doing?’ To that, I made an inquisitive expression, making my mother take notice.

“Each circle represents the ranks in our forest, from the most important families to the ones with the least power. Thus, the inner one is composed of mostly royalty.”

“Oh... thank you for the explanation.”

She smiled at my words as a wooden bowl appeared in front of us; served by one of our kin. My sight quickly got hold of its contents, finding some familiarity. From mushrooms to some sort of berries, and strangely enough, even worms.

‘Maggots as food!?’

My wings flapped strongly, surprising my mother, who coughed lightly, getting hold of my attention as she added with a soft whisper, “Eat them. You must give a good example to all the other fairies. They are highly nutritious and taste pretty good.”

I wanted to believe in her words, but certainly, worms could not taste good, especially so as they squirmed through the bowl, attempting to escape. Even so, despite feeling disgusted, I endured it for the sake of a good image, as the royalty figures around us would certainly take notice of my behavior.

Thus, I picked the mushroom with my right hand as there was no spoon or other utensils and took a bite of it.

‘It’d taste better if cooked with heat. Everything is raw, so crude that the worms are even alive. It’s like part of my meal is trying to eat my food.’

I sighed softly feeling the urge to scream at whoever bastard thought this was a good meal, grabbing one of the green worms fiercely, taking a chunk at it, feeling it squirm in my mouth as the liquid flowed to my tongue, tainting it in ways that no one deserved. As the once proclaimed devil by other gods, I was used to eating good food, making this completely outrageous and repulsive. It took one second to quickly became nauseous but kept at it with every bite, facing my own bravery and inner will to not puke, despite wanting to, badly at that.

If everything was not as bad as it could possibly be, my mother’s words increased my despair.

“Make sure you chew the worms properly. They must die completely, otherwise, they might make you sick, going as far as to grow inside of your stomach.”

I made an ill expression, chewing aggressively in panic so that my mind could be at peace knowing they died properly. Unnoticed to me, my mother smiled as she noticed my expression, considering it a more normal behavior of any newborn, reducing the suspicion within herself. After all, doing what no one had done was special, in many ways. Therefore, it too reflected differently in the eyes and minds of others.

‘It actually doesn’t taste bad it just feels weird to have it inside my mouth, and the juice it leaves is a bit sour,’ after looking at the rest of my meal, I joined what looked like blackberries to the mixture inside my mouth, allowing a familiar taste to reach my inwards, a blessed one.

‘This is...? It almost tastes like wine!’ The queen took a glance at my astonished face, feeling a tiny gust from the wind force of my wings.

“Those are elderberries. Do you like them?”

I quickly nodded in agreement, multiple times at that, enjoying the fruits more than everything else.

“Yes, everything is pretty delicious!”

To that, the queen took a bite of her own and then gave an extra berry to my bowl as a reward for my good behavior, adding careful words, filled with some sorrow, “I’m relieved to hear that as not everyone likes everything in it.”
