Chapter 38: Chapter 38: Where there is a future, there lays a past

Unbidden a dark memory came.

"Mother, Father where did you go?"

A lonesome scared little girl looked around terrified unable to find her family.

With the fast passage of time in the dream, everything kept disappearing from her grasp: her parents, siblings, friends, and the relationships she came to have, all because of a cursed ability she had been born within her first life, called the Devil's Luck.

It was unnaturally powerful, causing the girl's luck to spike, and in return, to bring misfortune to those around.

Everyone resented, hated, exiled, betrayed, and even went as far as to kill the poor girl, whenever they had the chance through many worlds.

The skill was so persistent that no god bothered to remove it, since every time, she'd start a new life both her memories and of course, that curse, would persist and return to her in one way or another.

Eventually, after many many lives, a change occurred within me, the skill fully merged with her soul, and ever since that day she'd keep her experience, skills, and everything she'd obtain be it good or bad each time she died and was born anew.

After endless lives and infinite worlds, she became famous even among gods who despised her existence.

At some point, she had locked her one true name and replaced it with what everyone called her, the devil or the princess depending if friend or foe.

Eventually, she had acquired permanently all sorts of curses, blessings, statuses, and other parameters, becoming truly powerful. In one of the worlds, she met a certain boy who wasn't too different from her, but to hersurprise, they completed each other in the strangest ways.

His presence in that world was so dim that it felt like no one had awareness of him, be it the people that lived there or even the gods who ruled it, it felt like even her curse didn't touch him, and in fact, for the longest time she was neither lucky nor unlucky, his presence brought stability, allowing me to experience happiness for the first time ever.

The day came when they made a soul-bound contract so that they'd never again be apart and from that moment on whenever one of them died, both would, and they'd be reborn into a different world, keeping everything they acquired.

After many lives together they fell for each other and lived for one another, and then a day came when they first made love, it was like the lock she had was opened by his key, they got to know each other true names binding him in complete light, and her in full darkness.

The boy grew so strong that the dim existence he had, grew to such an extent that allowed him to transcend into a greater being, and she followed his path, but then when she ascended our contract was erased.

Without ever knowing the reason why he disappeared without a trace of any kind, it was like she could feel him there, and at the same time she wasn't able to, he had become something else entirely different.'

She was once again... sad.

As time passed the young woman kept gathering power, she became a sort of god an evil one, a devil that was worshipped in many worlds and resented in many more.

Her infame soon became overwhelming, allowing her to become more powerful than those who called themselves gods. Eventually, clashing in countless wars, causing more and more chaos as time went by.

After gathering a lot of knowledge and power of this godly realm, she realized then, that boy wasn't the same as her, and that he hadn't gone through a transcending or ascension phase as she once did.

He had just been bored as a bystander in this universe, who decided to keep me company after possibly seeing how lonely and desperate I had been for the longest time.

She was... broken by the truth. And even then, All the woman ever wanted was to be with him again, so she kept causing chaos as there was injustice everywhere, becoming more and more obsessed over finding him.

She grew tremendous and desperate in finding her soulmate, eventually, reaching a certain pinnacle of existence where her senses reached out towards the ends of the universe, hearing a profound voice, perhaps out of her luck that it happened it in the first place.

Upon focusing her whole existence on the voice of the universe, she learned that the person was an ancient being of some sort, known as the overseer who existed for way longer than everything else, but sadly a lot of things the voice said were mixed in unknown languages.

The gods who apparently were below him started causing wars against each other in order to become the next true being and rule everything, to replace such a grandiose figure.

As for the woman, she kept looking for him no matter what bad things happened...'

After countless sadness, desperation, and betrayals, without ever stopping searching he summoned her to his meeting along with all these filthy gods that she despised.

But even then she was... hopeful.

To finally be with the sole light that matched her darkness, and yet, she found out by his that the universe still wouldn't allow them to be together, always betraying and making them suffer.

It was then that she cursed the universe and the gods, everyone that went against them.

Without her soulmate, she was just sadness and blackness a void capable of erasing everything, and now... no matter what happens... she will strive to win this game and have her wish come true to be with him forever and ever, eventually returning to what they left behind, their greatest creation, the seed they left behind.
